Long - 2nd goal on Saturday

It was embarassing from Long. A true sunday league effort of acting like a keeper. He came runing for the ball and then got launched out of the way by the invisible man. I'm amazed people are defending the ridiculousness of what he did.

If anyone would have bothered to attack the ball he would probably have stayed on his line, they defended like statues and we got punished. Long was never going to get that ball, but he'd have got even more grief if he'd have stayed on his line and they scored, it's a no win situation for the lad

Long was only partly responsible for the 2nd goal. That type of ball into the box should be met by one of the defenders. Had a look it at a few times on TV and Maguire and 2 Bradford players run across the line of the cross without getting anything on it. To me one of the defenders went missing with the second Bradford player. From the footage it looked like it was McMahon (although it might have been McGinn) that let his man go. To me the main blame is with the missing defender, although Maguire and Long probably should have done a bit better. Both young lads, both will make mistakes occasionally but there aint a better defender or goalkeeper at the Lane than those two.

It looked like a keeper error in real time and, having subsequently seen the footage, it looks even worse than I had thought - he seems to dive past the ball when he could have just stood where he was and caught it without being challenged. To be fair the 2 players that ran in front of him may have distracted him but keeping your eye on the ball is basic stuff.

Yet another game where I can't remember our keeper making a save of any note and yet we still conceded 2 (and that's not a dig at Long).

On a related topic, what's the point in having Howard as back up - it's clear that he's not going to get a game unless Long is injured, so we may as well ship him out and bring somebody else in.

Based on that surely it is worth dropping Long and letting Howard have a go in net?

New rules apply. You're not allowed to saying anything about Doyle or Porter, however scapegoating Long is now fashionable

This type of free kicks where the goalkeeper is unsure if someone's going to get a touch on the ball right in front of him are difficult. World class goalkeeper struggle with similar situations. I think people who are not happy with Long may use such situations to confirm their already made up opinion.

I'm a poor goalkeeper, but I would have saved Barnetta's free kick (1 minute in) with ease if there were no other players in the box:

I'm with you on this one. Don't blame this one on Long. As I said earlier, once the ball is allowed into the "corridor of uncertainty" you are in trouble. That is a centre half's ball . Seeing what Clough does and the improvements he brings when he sees things wrong I bet we will defend that type of free kick much better next time.
