Id say Star would be better trying to have interesting, in depth articles that local fans would appreciate more, rather than try to break transfer gossip. I.e. an interview with newly appointed paul heckingbottam, plans for the copthorne, a 1to 1 with jags on his final chapter of his career etc. Make it something worth buying.

To write and report about a Premier League club, you have to have journalists who
at least, can hold the respect of those they are writing about.

And not spend all their time and effort in developing a Web site that constantly insert the same info onto multiple pages (as well as being misleading in it's titles)

That sums it up....'reports in the National media.' This is your local club you are covering and not a clue what's happening. No idea. Just rehashing what we can read on other sites. Do some proper journalism. Talk to the club, use sources you trust etc. Maybe local journalism is not like that anymore and more about digital content than the face to face stuff?

If I was the United reporters I'd be a bit embarrassed that most other sources...whether it be local to other clubs or national get the story almost always before them.

Why the Star is surplus to requirements in current guise as a source for United news as it gives us nothing that 100s of other news sources give us.

As someone said they'd be better doing articles on players/different angles but sadly even those seem to jump on other sources/lift things from others. Recent examples include the Star doing an article discussing who was harder Whitehurst or Vinny Jones which basically ripped the exact quotes we did from our Tufty Club interview with Derek French without even naming us...just said a recent podcast! Think they did a Paul Devlin 'exclusive' too the same time as 4 Blades in a pub did a really good pod with him. Maybe it was a coincidence but they'd been promoting the pod on here weeks before the article came out in the Star.

Not very original when fans doing stuff for free/fun and the Star take ideas/stuff from there IMHO. As I say I still think there is a place for local journalism covering Football but most in our area seem to have no more idea than any of us whst is happening!

The local press should be one of the mosted trusted and reliable sources.

This Antonee Robinson move seems to be real. The Sun, Dailly Mirror and even Newcastle Chronicle reporting on it. Yet no mention or reaction locally.

That is not what I meant.
Why should Sheff Utd give out any info on targets they are chasing, would be madness, the press wether local or national will report on possible rumours or the info that is given to them from the club, or more likely scan fans forums for poss transfer news.
If that media corp decides that it is or not news worthy, then, that's their business, we can't do anything about what they report apart from not buying newspapers, etc.

Conversely the Manchester Evening News and Liverpool echo (two similar sized towns) simply produce a far better product with more detailed and up to date news/sports coverage.

Little village Sheffield versus much larger catchment areas and also catering for supporters of loads of different clubs in those catchment areas
Totally different demand for the papers

I think it's great the mods let the mentally inadequate come on here from other teams, bias towards us? did you never see "Save our Owls" in 70's god that was a Wendy wankathon to them.

Agreed. I think they also missed the zeitgeist a bit with not putting a good podcast out. Other newspapers have them.

Thankfully we now have a number of excellent fan run podcasts.

But do I need to list the stories they have been late to the party on?

I have nothing against the journalist, I really want a local paper that is at the forefront of reporting local sports news, which I believe they try to deliver.

It just seems there is something amiss in regards to how proactive they can be or are allowed to be when it comes to transfers or big stories.

I have given up on The Star since they demand you register and attempt to exort payment for useless articles. Yorkshire Live is much more pro active and easy to log in to.

Yeah pretty much zero reason to read the star now they expect a subscription for very little content. If the paper was to the standard of other local newspapers maybe so, but there's rarely anything I want to read and click bait which just annoys me

It's in the club's interest that the country knows Lundstram is for sale.
It's not in the club's interest for the country to know we are close to signing Antonee Robinson.
If the nationals piss off Wilder they don't care, if they piss off our fans (with BS rumours) they don't care there are no repercussions on them.
If any of the local media outlets piss off a local team, they could theoretically be prevented from getting direct access when stories are released.
We'll never know what Mick McCarthy did but Wilder gives him the iron curtain in interviews.

I criticised The Star last week, and so now, it’s only fair that I praise them because I think they have had an excellent week.

The live blog has picked up all rumours, adding their own information where possible, and especially in the Ramsdale transfer they have seemed more assured than national press.
