Not sure if Danny H from The Star is still active on here, or whether anyone from there reads stuff on here.

However - I'd like to know their thoughts on how transfer stories about us can be so prominent on other media platforms (ie Cakir in Turkey, Antonee Robinson via other English press) and yet local press make no mention.

I can overlook the spelling mistakes, the sometimes badly formatted stories - but surley we should be looking at local press as the 'go to' of local sport?

But there must be something;

• Are they just not 'in the know' and genuinely haven got a clue about potential transfers
• Does the club ask them to keep quiet
• Do they just simply not want to discuss or write about rumours
• Are they too slow to react

Same with the MEN over here. There sports coverage is like that of a national newspaper - up to date, breaking news, one step ahead in regards to rumours etc.

The Star dont even seem to react to other outlets breaking stories about us anymore, never mind been the leaders and breaking it themselves. Sad.

To be fair - It must be a balancing act for a local paper to balance getting a story out with keeping cordial relationships and getting access to players and management for interviews/pieces. Especially as the club are unlikely to want reports leaking out in advance.

I think they seem a bit stuck between doing rolling news coverage as YorkshireLive has suddenly started leading on, and which frankly all the major sports news media will already cover, or doing the type of longer read stuff that the general media won’t devote attention to. The latter takes longer, is less reactive, and less click-baity than a headline on interest in a player coupled with a few paragraphs in an accompanying article basically describing the player with little/no new information.

They are doing neither particularly well, and I do worry for their future. There’s very little at the minute that is driving me to look at their stuff on a regular basis – and I’m someone that grew up with a Green ‘Un subscription and has never bought into the “biased against us” nonsense.

I think there is so much coverage of foot ball now that the days of the local paper being the source of information are a long time gone.

However, I think there are some good points on here. There are a number of other local papers up and down the country that seem to get stories or break stuff before the nationals. They have journalists who actually get what we used to call 'scoops.' Whether it be on twitter or in the paper I see other local sport journos with exclusives.

Not sure whether the lads at the Star just don't get that sort of info or the remit for them has changed? I'd want my local beat writer for my club to find news, break transfers and occasionally tell us stuff we dont know or is a surprise.

Whether the club just keep things secretive but it seems to have been the same for a long time so not sure it's a manager/club v journalist relationship at all or just the Star generally has slipped so much. In the 80s/90s the Star/Green Un (Weds bias aside) you d buy or read as it would tell you stuff nationals are not bothered about.

As others have said Yorkshire live and many others seem to at least have some stories of interest or that are up to date.

The Star sadly seem slow or often just 're hash artickes/news other agencies ran with days ago.

I used to laugh at Tony Pritchett (git Deane and Agana mixed up) but he used to build such a relationship with the managers that they'd let him know stuff first.

The Star also now charge for articles. Many other papers do this of course but not sure how many people will pay money for stories days out of date and/or telling us stuff we already know.

I read a Star in my hairdresser a few months ago and it was poor in terms of content, journalistic quality and innovation. Conversely the Manchester Evening News and Liverpool echo (two similar sized towns) simply produce a far better product with more detailed and up to date news/sports coverage.

I actually think the Sheffield Telegraph is a really good read with better quality articles and content. Such is the delays between the Star bringing stuff I do wonder if soon that will be the only printed paper left in tbe city as can't imagine many but the Star anymore.

I know what you’re saying regards all this but I’d imagine that every bit of info for the national press will come from the party of the players we’re interested in, Wilder likes to keep his cards close to his chest and won’t be happy that any info gets out from the opposition side of things.

The only info Wilder lets out is the info he wants the players, agents and clubs to know to help a different transfer that no one knows about get over the line or something else devious and cunning.

I think Wilder doesn’t get on with the local media outlets and that has a lot to do with it, that’s what I take from a lot of his interviews, I could well be wrong and usually am.
