This may not be popular, but I think a little reality is in order. The loans we have are and have been pretty fantastic, but lets be frank, lets start at the top "the beard" a great loan signing, awesome attitude and a decent player at this level, Cardiff paid £1.5 million ? But In a relegation haunted team he wasn't even on the fringe, under 2/3 managers this doesn't bode we'll for him in Wales.
Coady, again at this level doing fantastic, really looks a good prospect but would he ever dislodge gerrard or the other multi million pound midfielders at Liverpool, personally I think bit part player at best so he has a big decision to make soon.
Ben Davies I would say at 32 this guy, tho a very decent player will not get pitch time back at derby even if they fail to win championship playoffs, leaving him probably clubless in the summer.
Freeman, don't know enough about him, young and back at derby might make it so just learning here maybe, getting experience but if they do go up will derby use him or try and buy safety in the premiership?
So to my mind, most if not all may may looking at possible moves in the summer, and if so why not the Blades, who look to be headed for a bright future.
Thoughts anyone?

(My bad, thanks highbury edited)

You forgot Billy Paynter. Might be a bit out of our price range though...

I reckon we'll stand a good chance of getting Davies permanently especially considering his age. Coady and Brayford have proved that they are capable of cutting it above this level and it would not have gone unnoticed by championship clubs. I think the chances of getting these two back into league one will be very slim indeed. Don't think Paynter is good enough. Freeman maybe available, particularly if Derby go up so Clough could well go in to add numbers to the defence and a safe bet with what he already knows.

What's the reality check aspect you refer to, it suggests we might be under some illusion?

We know we've got loans, we know we're likely to be able to keep some and some we won't.

Unusually for us, they've mainly made a very positive contribution.

That's the key point. I would say Halford was the last time we had a loan who made a genuinely positive impact on our team and season. Since relegation we haven't half had some rubbish!

Howard, Long, Maguire, Collins, Harris, Flynn, Doyle, McGinn, Scougall, Murphy and Baxter are under contract with us next season except for Harris (who I expect to sign).

Let's not start sounding like the pigs and get too attached to loan signings, however I see no reason why Brayford and/or Coady can't be resigned for next season, whatever division we are in.

The loans we have brought in this season, not only have they been good players which is unusual for us but they actually give a shit which is refreshing.

blader, I suspect the omission of Brayford was either a slip, or the assumption that it was a given that our right back has made an immense contribution since he came here on loan. Clarke, Phillips, and Reid were all great loans, but Brayford is arguably the best loan player we've had in recent years, most notably the way he's galvanised a defence that seemed incapable of keeping a clean sheet.

Phillips was good
Clarke got 1 in 5
Reid played 4 or 5 games didn't he?

I'm not sure those loans constituted making a difference to our season as they were just a month or so. No doubt in their ability though.

Isinyerblood, sorry, I meant until Coady and Brayford of course.

I think we've more chance of keeping the beard than Coady tbh.

Coady is obviously trying to impress Liverpool so will either return and get a bit part or go out on loan for next season but you can bet championship clubs will also be looking at him too.

With the extra revenue we'll have for next season I can see Brayford being convinced to stay, he's enjoying his football and as Nigel has said, he just wants to play football and money etc aren't as important to him. All depends on Cardiff at this point in time and what they want to do with him.

Tbh tigger, it started of more as a reality check for and about the loan players and their chances at their parent clubs, but got carried away thinking about actually keeping them next season and kinda lost the plot somewhat .

Brayford: I would be amazed and delighted if he signed for one or more years...loan whatever...doubt it will happen mind...

Davis: Looking to earn new contract. think we'll sign him.

Freeman: Guess Clough is checking him out with a view to replacing Brayford??? What are the odd's on Brayford going back to Derby, they love him there...

Coady: Crossroads for this lad (Benny?) seriously don't think he'll get a look in at Liverpool, especially if they finish top four...might be in with a shout of another loan/Perm..though as mentioned above, I'm sure Champ clubs would be interested..

Paynter: Looking for contract..don't think it will be with us.

Also, has everyone forgotten about OUR big loan out to HMP? Should be back in the summer eh lads?

The guy doing "stir" ATM is out in oct I believe and has said he would prefer to re sign for the blades, done his time rightly or wrongly and if he could cope with the shit from opposing fans I'd take him back, he should be fit as butchers dog but note for other players DON'T drop the soap in the showers.

I reckon it's nailed on he'll return to us, not sure what I think about that but sorts the striker role we are missing at the moment.
Hope it doesn't wreck the team spirit if he does.

siblade, don't want to rain on anyone's parade mate, but on the assumption that Ched does return to us, remember it took him two seasons to adjust to lower league football. Of course once he did adjust he was on fire. He's been away for a long time so expecting the same old, lightning fast, Ched to appear might be an expectation too far, at least for a few months, maybe longer.

Besides which Ched is not due for release until October, not the summer. Even if he does come back to us, and it's a big if, he'll be months away from first team action.

Oh I agree with all that totally, be next year before he would be fit and ready even. Not even sure I'd want him back and the shitstorm it will create.

Absolutely mate, but I suppose I fall into the 'everyone deserves a second chance' camp. After all, if Wendy can turn a blind eye to someone like the thug they've just accepted back (who's committed similar acts many times before) I would hope we'd show the generosity of spirit to say it's all behind you now, so apply yourself as the slate's now clean. He's been very lucky in one respect, his girlfriend has stuck by him so he has a rock which will prove invaluable as he begins to pick up the pieces of his life again. Whether he's Clough's cup of tea is another factor to consider. I imagine a chat between the pair of them will go a long way to determining his future at SUFC.

madine was let out on licence after a few days , might get Ched earlier way they are freeing up space in the jails

I'd be absolutely stunned if Mr Ched plays for us again. Nailed on to return? Wow.
Some 4th division team may take a chance on him, but surely a club of our stature can't risk all the media circus that would come with it? Not to mention there's no guarantee he will be in any fit shape to be any good.

I'd be happy if we signed Brayford and, based on his recent drastic improvement, Coady.

Other than one fantastic free-kick, Davis really hasn't done enough to make me want to keep him. He isn't quick, tricky or skillful and doesn't have the energy to get up and down the line. I think we could easily find a better back up right back / right midfielder.

Paynter just doesn't look fit and doesn't seem to fit into our system.
