Curtis was given a golden chance at Peterborough. They're a fantastic team to join who have a great recent record of working with and developing young players, as well as playing fast attacking football. If he can't make it there then I don't he'll make it with us.

Possibly. But then look at Seriki.

He looks very useful now.

Prior to this he looked out of his depth vs Forest, had a wasted spell at Beerschot, a good spell at Boston but tier 6, an ok spell at Rochdale in League Two where I think they went down and where he ended up on the bench. Then he had 10 games at Rotherham, mainly as sub.

None of that suggested he’d look as bright as he does right now. But he’s obviously learned and it’s come together.

Seriki is 22. Curtis is only 18. He’s got time to build up his experience. This adversity might do him good. It’s his first taste of senior football in the UK.

Have we never had a ‘shite’ player then? We’ve got some in the squad now. Luckily the good ones are playing most of the time.

I just think calling someone such as Curtis, Freckleton or Hackford shite is poor form. They’re kids, doing their best.

They seem to be playing a bit shite in a lower league than we play in, as it’s a forum to discuss Sheffield United and their players I think I’m quite within my rights to mention this.

Rest assured though, next time I’m at a game if they play I won’t be shouting on and calling them shite, but if they play shite I might discuss it on the internet afterwards.

Fair enough.

In case he googles himself then I’ll congratulate him on being in the very elite club of playing professional football, but he clearly needs to up his levels if he wants to play for Port Vale regularly and even more so if he wants to play for The Blades.

I am a Posh fan who attends c.25 games a season.
Curtis is only 18 and I seriously don't understand the logic of signing a player on loan who was not anywhere near the finished article, especially as the rest of our defence is similarly raw.
However, he is a serious talent. If he was our player he would be in the team every week and our Chairman would be banging on about him. Despite being totally right footed he has been selected on occasions to play left back ahead of a guy who played +30 times there for Portsmouth last season.
Nurture him and give him some time and you will have a top player.

How's Poku doing this season? I was amazed that no Championship teams came in for him during the summer.

There were offers for Poku! But having sold Burrows, Mason Clark and Edwards - plus getting some (relatively) big earners (Knight and Clarke-Harris) off the wage bill we rejected them. I think he possibly sulked a little at the start of the season, but soon buckled down and was League 1 player of the month for two consecutive months. At times, despite always being double (occasionally triple) marked, he has been unplayable. Unfortunately he recently has done his hamstring which required an operation meaning he is out for approx 3 months.
He will leave in the summer as out of contract. But, as under 24 we are likely to get a hefty settlement from tribunal.

Yep oldandfat going from the Irish league to straight into division one at age 18 takes some serious doing. The lads obviously got a load of potential as so many clubs were after him. He's got no chance of a game here as we have at least 3 players in front of him. In hindsight he would have been better off at a lower level

Also I get the 'he's not our player' viewpoint. We have a similar situation here at right back. Gilchrist isn't our player and is keeping our own youngster Seriki out of the team. Gilchrist is a better defender but Seriki is much better going forward. Are we better off developing our own player or picking the loanee who will go back in the summer?
