Would you take him on loan if he was available?

Apparently training on his own at O.T as he awaits to see weather he returns to Roma.

We can’t afford him.

there are bigger clubs than us looking at him - much bigger.

Other than the fact I’ve got more chance of shitting gold than him coming here, yeah sign him up. Let’s get Messi while we’re at it.

We could set up.a go fund me for his hundred grand a week wages

great minds and that

For people saying wages.
I would doubt that Roma were paying 100% of his wages. If his move to Roma doesn't come off then maybe we could get him on loan till Jan with only paying a portion of his wage.

Smalling was fantastic at Roma, would 100% have him in our back 3 without JOC. Unfortunately, even if Man Utd paid half his wages we'd be paying 35k pw

But wages and a season loan fee totalling say £3.5m is small change for a player of Smallings ability.......other option would be £5m plus (probably) on the lad from Huddersfield......I know which one I would go for.

I agree, would be a fantastic loan signing for us but Man Utd are trying to offload some players and our structured wage bill will be a stumbling block as I'm sure there's clubs out there who would pay the majority if not all his wages. Fulham for example have said they need cb's and obviously are willing to spend big on wages. I'm sure things would have been different if covid hadn't effected our budget

On the face of it that's right, but if we have someone come in on larger wages than much of the rest of the team, won't that cause some inbalance in the changing room? I'm not advocating a flat-rate for all players like some kind of Hammer And Sickle FC, but the uplift in wages surely has to be a gradual thing?

If our players can’t comprehend why somebody who’s played over 200 games for Man U and also played for Roma might be on more money than the ones who’ve played one season in the Premier League with us and, other than that, only played for teams like Ipswich, Swansea or Bournemouth at best, then they’d want their heads looking at. Thankfully I can’t see that being the case and I think they’d live in the real world and accept it.

6 consecutive league defeats, he is the level we need to make the difference. Also its in Manure's interest to stop Arse, Citi, Scousers and Chelski..- we need someone to come in readymade for such opposition.

Agree to an extent but we have to accept that if we want to stay in the big boys league then difficult decisions will have to be made and yes, some players who have served us so well on our journey will have to accept at some point that things move on.

Harsh but realistic, I'm sure the owners will want to do all they can to extend our stay rather than worry about hurt feelings.

Fair enough but is Smalling on loan the person we want to be the figurehead of this new wage structure?

I don’t disagree that eventually we’re going to have to up our transfer fees and wage structure if we want to compete, but I don’t agree that we should do so to get a defender whose career can most kindly be described as average, on a season-long loan.

This would be a decent signing if we could afford a third of his wages. We can't, and they'd want 100%, so....

Yes , never been more than average and now even less so .
