Fatty Foulkes was once marted by Fatty Arbuckle in a model T Ford near Catcliffe. Kenneth Anger's seminal book Rotherham Babylon documents this and provides evidence of crayon sketches made at the very time by a certain young lady who turned out to be rumoured to be the mother of TV and Clubland's Kenny Lynch!

Apparently (and this may be apocryphal) Fatty Foulkes used to hire kids to stand by the net and put off attackers. They also used to fetch wayward shots, and hence ball boys were invented.

here's an actual fact - my home town team Derry City play in red and white stripes because when Billy Gillespie joined as manager in 1932 the club changed shirts to the Blades colours as a gesture of respect to the Blades, (ether that or becuase he brought some shirts with him, nobody is quite sure.)

blades were the first team to have live radio broadcast, against arsenal i think it was.

Nearly 75 years ago, from a wooden hut that largely resembled a garden shed, the first ever commentary of a league football match was broadcast.

On 22nd January 1927, listeners of the BBC's radio service witnessed the unique experience of hearing football commentary from the comfort of their own homes.

The Division One clash between Arsenal and Sheffield United provided the entertainment for many families, who had eagerly tuned to their radio sets to hear the action. The match, played at the Gunners' current ground Highbury, ended 1-1.

If you lie Tony Agana and Brian Deane down side by side with each other, by an optical illusion Agana appears to be taller.

The Blades have had two sets of fathers and sons who have won the FA Cup while playing for the club.

Peter Boyle in 1899 with his son Tommy winning in 1925
Harry Johnson Sr in 1902 with Harry Jr winning in 1925.

The penalty area D was created after the Blades lined up on the edge of the box to stop a long run up away at Man City.

I remember my Dad telling me that years ago. I thought it was drunken, boastful lie! I suppose I'll have to forgive him now!

In the 1994/1995 season Peter Ndlovu scored a Premier League hat-trick against Liverpool at Anfield to secure a 3-2 victory for Coventry City.

No other visiting player scored a hat-trick against Liverpool at Anfield in the league up until Andrei Arshavin scored 4 against them last season.

Infact, in the whole history of the Premier League Ndlovu is only one of 4 people to score a hat-trick against one of the "Big 4" on home soil. The other two were Nwankwo Kanu against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in 1999 and Micky Quinn against Arsenal in 1993.
