For the past 10 years I have had a battle with the worlds worst enemy cancer, I don’t big it up, I just crack on and do the best I can with what life throws at me, I have a beautiful wife two amazing children, my eldest loves the Blades as much as I do and for these reasons I feel totally blessed.
I was told I would need a bone marrow transplant which is a scary life changing thing if ever there was, what you have to go through is unimaginable to most people, but unfortunately my brother is not a match nor is there anyone on the current Anthony Nolan trust who is a match, so yesterday I was told I’m as healthy as I can be , I’m doing well on the drugs I’m on and that they’re happy for me not to go through this procedure as it’s to risky, maybe in a year or two that will have changed but for now I can carry on with my life and family.
I just wanted to say a couple of things, this site has been an absolute life changer in my darkest hours, the funny one liners, the argument the crap that comes out sometimes has truly kept me going, I’m more of a lurker than a poster. I’m not after sympathetic response or attention I’m after as many of you to get your self registered with the Anthony Nolan trust and make yourself available to potentially save someone’s life and more importantly the life of their family because if you ever get that call that’s exactly what you would do.
And to all those who think this should be in a different area I looked for Blades with cancer and found fuck all, maybe the Mods could put a section in.
Good luck tonight and the rest of the season let’s hope we can make the promised land !

Fight that fucker with all you have got.

I have a good friend who was diagnosed with the disease 5mnths an 3 weeks ago, it was inoperable and incurable according to the doctors, and they gave him 6mnths......He's fought hard, he has a white an 2 kids, 1 of which has just turned 18, he's changed his diet and uses treatments not available on the NHS, and despite the 6mnths being up next week, he's still here and still fighting!!
His inoperable cancer(he has 3) has begun to shrink, and his 2 incurable ones have stabilised and not grown.
I'm hoping to see him still fighting well past our 40th's and for aslong as possible!!!

If anyone is suffering from the fucker though, please PM me and I can put you intouch with a chap that could help and is definitely worth a 10min chat too!!

Good luck fella and keep fighting!!

I'm normally one of the tedious forum police types but even at my most pompous, I can only think WTF.

Good luck mate and keep the fight going.

You have a great positive attitude mate & lots of reasons to continue to fight this with everything you have. I had cancer myself 31 years ago, so exactly half my life away now, so I am sure there is lots of time for you to enjoy being part of your family for a long long time to come.
Cancer is such an evil disease, it has affected many people in my own family & caused untold grief all over the world, but for many it is not the death sentence it once was; I love hearing of people who refuse to be beaten by it, keep it going mate, keep it going.

All the best Alan. Thanks for sharing. Hope the Blades bring you some more joy tonight too, and Saturday!

Good Luck you Red and White Wizaaaaaard!

Keep fighting the fucker pal. As BigBed says there is a lot of alternative medicine out there and as good as the NHS is you must explore any avenue of treatments.
Good luck pal.

Had a friend who went through non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma in his twenties. Only caught it early because his girlfriend at the time was doing a PHD in cancer research. He's still going strong today and even beat the odds further by having his first child after being told he would likely be left sterile.

Best of luck to you.

Thank you for sharing your personal story of this universally evil disease. I didnt realise how quickly it can steal people's dignity until I lost my dad in law 1 year ago to the day tomorrow.
5 years ago last Sunday since my mum passed away. She was the reason I am a blade, my dad and elder brother are blue and white, the first thing she taught me to do as a baby was blow a raspberry after she said the word 'Wednesday'. Dad protested against this manipulation, she totally ignored him I'm pleased to say.

Love to all the blades family out there that's having a tough time xx

Keep your head up mate. The internet these days can be a bad place but thankfully there are still places where one can go to get some enjoyment and lift your spirits. I have a family member who is terminal with leukaemia, I give blood as often as I’m allowed and put myself down as a candidate for bone marrow transplant if ever it was needed. I give blood through the NHS give blood initiative thing, I dunno if they already do it but can they match you with someone on the nhs’s own bone marrow register?

Don't want to turn this thread into an argument but there aren't any alternative medicines that have been scientifically proven to help beat cancer. There are a lot of people making a lot of claims, and often making a lot of money from them.

Honestly, most alternative medicines for issues like cancer are total and utter BS when it comes to treating the actual disease. They may lift some symptoms but don’t treat the root cause

Keep going Alan, and thanks for sharing. I'll get my name on those registers asap, and very much hope something turns up for you.. As Prince says in 1999: "Everybody's got a bomb, we could all die any day"... So enjoy life to the max until our bomb goes off. I've got a long term health condition and am just trying to make the best of things. Don't give up!

Fight the bastard with all your might my friend. You can beat it, new treatment is being introduced all the time.

I was diagnosed with bowel cancer 10 years ago this May. Fortunately it was was picked up by routine screening and Iit hadn’t had time to spread so I didn’t need any chemotherapy, just an op, and thankfully I’m still clear a decade on. A few months later in discovering it and it might have been a different story, especially as I had no symptoms whatsoever.

To anybody reading this male or female. Take advantage of any opportunity to use the cancer screening programs. If there’s no specific program (like prostate) ask your doc for a check up. Don’t be too embarrassed, apathetic or think it wouldn’t happen to you because it could. Catching the bastard early is they key to a cure in most cases, so please don’t needlessly risk your lives lads and lasses.

Lecture over :) UTB
