Liban Abdi was a youth player for the Blades. He was born in Somalia but raised in Norway. He spent a year at Ferencvaros on loan, but was released by United after that. He now plays regularly for Olhanese in the Portuguese top division (which is ranked fifth in Europe), scored against Porto last night and there's media talk of him potentially getting a call up for Norway.

Did anybody see him play for the Blades U18s?

Afraid not, but it would be great to see him play for Norway and succeed, not just as an ex-Blade but also from a social/political point of view.

Ah, memories of Jordan Stewart on the right wing. Good Lord.

That vid makes Abdi look like Nani. This is where we need to have a chat about giving youth a chance. Director of Football anyone? :)

Saw him a number of times, quite pacey a few tricks, but never seemed to be a stand out.

Some players develop later on in the careers.
Didn't he sign through the Football unites/Rascism divides scheme?
Hope he succeeds!

Although we've generally been like shit off a stick to cash in on young players we think are any good very few have slipped through the net, left for next to nowt and gone on to really make it at top level in the last few decades.

The likes of a Kevin Davies story are few and far between.

one thats def slipped through the net.
Wasnt there also an Iranian player whos gone unto good things as well?
I think he was Iranian anyway. Had a bad injury at one point & has come back to do very well.

Sharu Naraji? He suffered a horrible knee injury soon after he came to us and hasn't played since.

Colin Kazim-Richards, Ahmed Fathi and Luton Shelton have done well (certainly at international level) since they left us but weren't Blades products.

Every time I see Nathan Dyer playing for Swansea it annoys me that we didn't try harder to keep him.

Or did we have no choice but to let him go?

Unfortunately, Blackwell realised far to late into his loan spell the use that he provided wide right. That was clear to see from his early cameos, but despite signing him Blackwell was very reluctant to use him. This coincided with the strange freezing out of Cotterill from the squad. Needless to say, the appeal of a permanent deal with Swansea was better than anything we could offer him.

He was released by United in May 2007,[6] having never made an appearance for them in the Football League.[7] His career was ended by injury.[8][9]

He was praised by Neil Warnock and former Sheffield United captain Chris Morgan, who compared him with Bayern Munich's Arjen Robben.[10]

He'd have a good song if he played for us
Liban Abdi ahhh Liban Abdi for the reggae
