Manchester City have rejected a £16million bid from Southampton for teenage striker Liam Delap.

The 19-year-old is on City's pre-season tour in the United States and has loan interest from a number of clubs including Burnley though a move there is considered unlikely.

City are prepared to allow Delap - the son of ex-Stoke man Rory - to leave on loan this summer to gain experience.

Impressive PL u23 numbers.

This article should also shut down any talk of him possibly joining Utd

I may be living in a dream, but just because they turned down a suitable bid from saints to take him as a permanent doesn't mean they wouldn't consider loaning him out for a season.

Seems to be sotons transfer tactic at the moment, buying high potential wonderkids off the PL giants.

In terms of loans, it seems like City are only willing to loan their wonderkids to PL clubs (McAtee is another example, linked with forest, soton etc)

We signed Doyle from city and are no doubt viewed as a very good opportunity for PL clubs to provide experience for their younger players

Of course we are, but imo McAtee/Delap are a different kettle of fish ‘wonderkids’, and could have a shout at PL minutes this season, Doyle hasn’t quite had the same trajectory but he’s apparently very decent

My only concern with Doyle is his pace. I don't think he's renowned for it and it's what Norwood needs next to him.

I suspect McAtee and possibly Delap, would be in the caregory those last days of the window signings, Hecky and Bettis keep referring to.

I'm hoping Armstrong and Davis are in that category and that their availability prompts us to see sense and think 'fuck it' and sign a striker....

We should be flexible on positions with this late approach - if we can get top quality we should get it regardless

Could this be us?

Hopefully Pep and co have been happy enough with Doyle and McActee’s progress to lend us another talented youngster…

Saying that, is there a rule on how many players you can loan from the same club during a season?

There is for PL clubs but not sure about EFL. I’m sure a local expert will tell us. Part of me thinks Burnley though

It's 4 under 23, or 2 over 23

Is it because his dad was just sacked by Stoke?

Delap Jr. hasn't exactly the world alight in the first half of the season. Is he really someone we'd be clamouring to sign?

Stoke not renowned for their chance creation as far as I can see though, scored against us didn’t he?

Yeah, wondered if that might be why City were considering moving him elsewhere. His xG is 3.78 from almost 1400 minutes played, which is very poor indeed.

He's one or two places ahead of Jebbison in the pecking order at their age group level for England (the other being Dane Scarlett, who is also not really setting the world alight at Portsmouth).

I don't see much point in gambling on another young loanee when we already have some very talented young players of our own in that position. If we do bring in a striker I hope it's someone with a bit more of a record of scoring goals.

I'm not sure what type of forward/striker we'd be looking for. Think it was mentioned previously, if Mcburnie is fit we have him, Sharp & N'Diaye so someone established is likely to sign and we have Jebbison and Osula so it's unlikely to be someone younger.

Could see this happening if there's effectively no limit to U23s from the same club. It makes sense for a few reasons

1. He isn't good enough for Burnley, WBA or Boro to want
2. He's a striker but also has the pace to replace Khadra in that way
3. He's a more reliable sort in terms of work rate etc
4. City must be pleased with our management of Doyle and McAtee
5. He'd settle in quickly thanks to those two and it would only help on the pitch

It's the least we should do recruitment wise, but I'd be quite pleased with him. Think he has more to offer than his Stoke spell suggests

Also, his dad has just left his role at Stoke.

If he’s not good enough for those three, why would he be good enough for us ?
