Just wondered what everyone's plans were for Leyton Orient?

We're getting to St Pancras for about half 10 I think. Considering heading to Liverpool Street area as it's where you need to change to go up to Leyton. Any decent boozers around there?

I will be in Sheffield Friday night for my old man's birthday, and will be getting a train back in the morning. Will be getting to St Pancras at 13:34, so will be cutting it fine. Doubt I'll have any time for pre-match boozing, sadly.

My last trip to Orient wasn't a great success.

As soon as the draw was made, i firmed up plans to go down with one of my mates on the train. When it came to the day i felt like absolute garbage with tonsilitis, and could barely get out of bed, but i struggled on, and went down on the train, had a couple of beers at St Pancras, headed off to Liverpool Street for a few more, before finding out the game was off at 2pm, meaning a wasted journey. Caught the first train back, got back in bed and stayed there for next 3 days!

Thinking of locating a decent real ale place near Bethnal Green, possibly Mile End, from where its a short tube ride to Brisbane Road.

I'll be down for this one. A few cheap nearby Wetherspoons to get things flowing, followed by a night on the lash and a stay in Pimlico.

Can't wait.....:)

Make sure you call in Cask pub and kitchen if you are staying in Pimlico. Cracking real ale boozer.

Don't think I'll be going to this one. Me and our lass have a few days off and I promised to take her to Whitby!? Pushed for a Sunday morning departure, but she was not having it :(

Nice place, but take a wedge. Not cheap.

Not a bad place. I used to live opposite. You're not drowning in decent pubs in Smile End.

That just capitalist thatcherite drinking, whats up with swilling lager in a wetherspoons?

Speaking of drinking, reading this post it appears you might have been sniffing the driptrays this evening.

True, I think Bethnal Green might be a better bet. Id like to avoid the Liverpool St area. There is the suggestion of a place by Holborn.

Pride of Spittalfields is alright if you do stick round LS. Some decent places in Holborn - there's a really weird pub built into the ground floor of a 50's office block - not the best pub in the world but it's like stepping back in time. Can't remember the name of it now. Pillars Of Hercules is good too, especially when you want to try your special handshake out, nod, wink etc.

No, but they do a number of continental lagers at about £7 a pint.

After an afternoon in Wetherspoos with their classy (cheap) offerings, I'll drink any shite by night time. Not at £7 a pint mind.......:)

True. If you stick to the ale then you are talking almost £4 a pint, which is expensive, but just about bearable.

Oreyt is exagerating a touch. They do have a fantastic selection of European Lagers in bottle and tap form. You'll pay best part of a fiver for them though.

Save you pennies in Wetherspoon's in the afternoon, then treat yourself to a nice bottle of German lagrer and reminisce about Wimbeldon's FA cup victory in 88!? ;)

That office block place sounds like a Wetherspoons I used to watch football in back along High Holborn towards Chancery Lane. Two nice ones by Holborn are the Princess Louise (a Sam Smiths) and The Ship, round the back of the station.

Place in Leyton that has it's own Brewery and £2 pints!

Its on Hoe Street, a 15 minute walk from my flat. Was thinking of popping in there before.

Yeah, nice places both. I've got a (borderline alcy) mate who lives on Wild Street just off Kingsway so I've spent a fair few quid round there since moving down here. Holborn is probably one of my favourite bits in the centre: to say it's a stones throw from Covent Garden it's relatively uncrowded, and so many decent boozers.

Cheers for all the advice on pubs so far. Might end up going down Holborn first then heading off somewhere else closer to Leyton a bit later on.

The best thing about the place is that they always have an excellent selection of Thornbridge stuff. They don't like session beers in there though do they? Virtually nowt under 4.5.

You ever go to the Speaker towards St James Park? Always very good for real ale.

Best thing about Holborn is that its on the Piccadilly line so if youre coming down from Sheffield its a short tube ride from St Pancras then direct to Leyton.

There used to be a very good cafe just down between Holborn and Covent Garden Tube Stations - Coffe, Cake and Kink it was called. Sadly, it is now closed :-(

What, you mean for cake fanciers?

I just wonder what Id have got if Id asked for whipped cream.

Yes that's the one. Any good?

I have to confess, Ive not actually been in it. It looks pretty nice from the bus, big old building covered in Ivy. Ill check it out and get back to you.

Ha ha. You know about it if you spend a few hours in Cask. An empty purse and a wobble are guaranteed.

Yeah know The Speaker well. I work in Whitehall, so it's not far from me. Got a real ale drinking mate who works in Victoria, so it is a good halfway meeting point. Good selection of well kept real ale's and they work hard to bring in lots of guest beers.

Actually they did a very mean hot chocolate with whipped cream and as far as I am aware no whips were harmed in the maing of the product.

The guy in charge was interesting. He was a transgender and was going through the gender reassignment process. He was taking hormones to enhance his chest and every time I went in he seemedd to have gone up a cup size.

Now the real reason for Darren's custom is starting to come out ......
