I've said this before on shoutbox but I'll say it again, granted I didn't say all of this on shoutbox as that would be a long post! Getting promoted is great and they did it the best way possible after the way they came back v (a woeful Peterborough) and then in the last minute v Barnsley. But, going up is only back to where they were in the second division and any Wednesdayite knows there is a huge difference between going up to the Championship and then having a team capable of going up again. When we did it under Wilder with one season in between we had a nucleus of players in the 23 - 26 age range and some very good players at that, we all know the players. We also sold Brooks for £10m and brought in Norwood (best centre mid in the Championship that season in my view) and Egan, one of the best centre backs. We had an amazing manager to boot.
Wednesday's squad is much older, very few under 28 other than squad players who Wednesday fans don't rate like Bakinson. They're no better off the field with talk of the Academy closing and even if it's open it may as well be closed. So, personally them going up makes little difference unless they spend big this summer which I doubt they'll do. They still have Chansiri in charge who has no idea how to run the club, he's still fleecing the fans, the fans are still divided on Moore. In essence they're not better off than the likes of Bristol City and Preston who haven't ever graced the top flight since the PL started. They may do a Millwall or a Luton and make the play offs in the next season or two but they'll need much better players to do that and teams with parachute payments continue to dominate the automatic spots. So let them have their moment, wave their flags and think that taking 44,000 to Wembley means that they are a big club destined for the Premier League.
Many Wednesday fans still haven't woken up to the Premier League era where clubs that are well run and/or bankrolled are the teams that do well, clubs like Brentford, Brighton, Fulham and Bournemouth as opposed to Leeds and Wednesday and till recently Forest that have all struggled to re-establish themselves in the top flight because they've been run so badly and they have spent money Leeds and Wednesday have spent it terribly. They're one stop closer to the PL on paper but in reality they're barely any closer in the Championship than they were in League One to the PL.
I've not even touched on the ground and how much that needs spending on it.
