Nowt happening,so let's have some King Tony memories.

In the vid below i was at the game at Goodison where we came back from 2-0 down to win 3-2 with Tony getting the winner.
I could go on forever with my memories from the late 60s but what are yours?

TC was Alf Ramsey''s choice to replace Bobby Charlton in the England team. Despite playing really well against Poland in 1973, the result wasn't achieved and both Ramsey and TC were discarded. Revie went for workhorses rather than flair, but Revie has been vindicated to some extent, because the modern day great players don't half work damn hard out of possession.

Genius - no other word.

My favourite game I saw him play was against Stoke City in the 1974/75 season. He was untouchable during that game and if I remember correctly, he'd just been overlooked by Don Revie for the England squad. He managed to nutmeg Alan Hudson and continued his run down the left wing, ball at his feet, blowing kisses to the Kop. Utterly brilliant.

We all have our Blades heroes from both older and recent times. In my opinion, TC was the best player I've ever seen in a red and white striped shirt and I count myself fortunate to have seen him at his absolute best.

Sorry but with respect, I can't agree. Don Revie tried to recreate his "Leeds family" with the England squad which ultimately failed. This led to him greedily turning his back on the job, and his country, for the lure of Middle East riches.

Currie, Frank Worthington, Stan Bowles and other flair players were treated shabbily by Revie. Maybe I'm missing something but those workhorses who took their place in the England squad cannot have vindicated Revie's actions as we don't appear to have won a great deal since 1966.

In the mid eighties, I was at university in Leeds and stayed in digs with a particularly strict landlady. Me and a couple of other student lodgers would sometimes have to join in with a family meal at weekends, which was about as uncomfortable as it sounds. Her son in law (who clearly enjoyed the situation about as much as we did) found out I was a Blade:

"Did you see Tony Currie play?" he asked. It was a different ball game after that and I remember being thrilled/surprised that a Leeds fan appreciated him just as much as I did.

Every bit as good a talent as the legend suggests.

That kit is quite simply the best we've ever had in my humble opinion, simple and straightforward but beautiful and worn by the best team we've had in my lifetime, it even looks class in black and white.

I find this post quite astonishing , in that when I switched on my iPad a few minutes ago my intention was to post a similar one but in a few seconds came across this .

I also was at Goodison to watch our remarkable comeback in a match where had we gone in at half time 4-0 down , we could have had no complaints since Everton completely batterered us from start to finish .

On a more general note , and I have thought long and hard before coming to this conclusion , I have to say that of all the English footballers I ever saw Tony Currie at his best was the most exciting and effective of all of them .

In addition to his wonderful skills and terrifically entertaining and flamboyant approach to the game , he had the ability to almost single handedly impose himself on the opposition and affect the outcome of the game like no other I ever saw .

Of all the other potential candidates , only Gazza comes close in my book but even he comes second to a prime TC.

What's with all this fancy footwork, moving the ball forward and shooting at goal anytime you fancy it business? Who would even want to watch that week in week out?!

Said this many times before but TC was my first hero and always imagined I was him when I played for the school team.

To the new owners, get statue up in car park during his lifetime!

In them days I loved how they used Subbuteo stuff to demonstrate this, I used to try and create similar myself with my Subbuteo, such as the 5-0 drubbing of Alan Ball’s Arse - what a night that was
Trouble was I refused to buy any other Subbuteo team apart from United so all the opponents played in our white kit with red collar/cuffs at the Lane and played in red and white stripes at their place…… 😀

john harris was the best manager ive seen at the lane quietly spoken but didnt stand and nonsense a tactical genius and to this day managed the best team ive ever seen at the lane he converted tc from a striker to a midfield genius

Exactly this…his ‘will to win’ was like no other I’ve ever seen. We could be losing and TC would up the tempo and force his personality on to the game. Whenever he did that you knew we’d win.
My first footballing hero. Magnificent player. The best Ive ever seen.

Always mildly annoying that Subbuteo team number 9 had red socks rather than white (although I never went so far as painting them) 😂

I’ve still got my shirt from when I was about 10 in the loft somewhere, it’s got hand sewn number 10 on the back( done by my mum) that I can still remember buying from Suggs

My favourite player , along with Woodward & Colquhoun, met him in the club car park recently, great player for us and seems a genuine bloke too

Must spend half his life there, perhaps he doubles up as a parking attendant, I’ve spoken to him twice in the car park.
