we've played "well" less than ten times this season.

We aren't going to achieve the autos or the play offs.

There is no money for new players.

Even "if" we get rid of loads of dross in May we will have the ready made excuse of 'need time to gel '

It is thoroughly depressing and can't see any light at the end of the tunnel at all.

Don't worry, we can make a super happy game out of trying to finish in the top half of League One. :)

Yes, good here innit?

I think most people realise we are a few seasons away from a promotion challenge and that is what is going to effect season ticket sales more than 10% discounts, fan re-engagements or who is the manager is.

Attendances will be very close if not the same as this seasons. It took a bit of desperate barrel scraping, but McCabe has just managed to get the fans where he wants them. In the palm of his hands.

Hello Leeds! Have we been promoted yet? We must have been. ;)

It's really not difficult to mount a promotion challenge in this league, so no, we're not a few seasons away.

As bad as we've been last season and this, we've still been close to challenging for promotion.

Let's not give them more excuses.

Why should we be a few seasons away from a promotion challenge though? I don't get this sentiment.

Without sounding like a pig, we are the man city / Real Madrid of this division. We have the biggest fan base by some 10K+ (with the exception of Bradford who give their tickets away), we should have the biggest budget based on crowds, commercial revenue, plus the supposed 8million plus put in by our owners each year. We are debt free, have tremendous facilities, should easily be able to recruit the best players from league 1. It's just that recent recruitment have gone for championship hasbeens.

It shouldn't take two or more seasons to mount a promotion challenge. We should be able and ready to do it next year with all of our resources. Burton have done it straight out of league 2 with next to nothing, Walsall and Gillingham have done it this year out of nothing.

Saying it should take us two more years to get out of this shite league is the equivalent of saying it will take two years for the likes of Chelsea or man city to qualify for the champions league, because that is the comparable size of us in this league.

How the fuck have the mindsets of our board and some of our fans changed from being a top 6 championship club, to now a mid table league 1 club who are now writing off the next two years. It's mental.

There shouldn't be any debate about it. The mindset should be we're the biggest fish in this pond, we have more resources than everyone else, we will get the best players out of this division, add in experienced quality like Billy Sharp and storm out of this league. Just like Wolves, Charlton, Bristol City and Wednesday did.

Promotion challenge................... yer having a laugh, it will not be next season and maybe not the one after unless we find new owners with serious money to invest. The present lot are clearly not up to the job.

I sincerely hope you're right and belive me I am not making any excuses for them.

But they have returned to Austerity thinking again. There's no major incomings and a lot of outgoings going to be seen this summer. I can't see them sanctioning anything like the sort outlay needed to do it next season.

A play off place may still be attainable next season but I cannot see an auto challenge... And if we blow a load on Hammond...

My own gut feeling is that promotion will be on next season , built around Hammond and a boat load of loan players .
This will be achieved without McCabe and Co breaking the bank of SUFC , as I can see Adkins pulling in favours from other managers . He has a point to prove to us , McCabe and more so to himself .

Adkins has cocked this season up , but he is such a nice honest chap , he just does not realise that them two swords on our badge can easily Finish up in a managers back.

We have been saying this for the last FIVE years and we are still no closer in fact we are further away from the Championship than ever.

When's he not suspended....

Harry , I don't think he will get suspended as much next season . He will have player with him , which will ensure he does not have to be so reckless .

We do need leaders and it's got to be someone who Adkins can trust .

Not hammonds biggest fan. , as I am one of these who doesn't see or appreciates what he does off the ball according to Adkins . However if Adkins is in a job at the lane next season. , Hammond will be with him , and if blocked I can see the Clough senario happening all over again.

He's not reckless he's just slow, the opponent gets away from him and "bang" the instinct is still make the challenge, bring him down, yellow card. That won't change who ever he plays with.

In the season where we have worn a celebratory strip to commemorate our historic 125 years we could well find ourselves finishing in our third worst league position since we began in 1889.

There should be some heads hanging in shame.

I can see what you are saying. Christ knows what is ahead and I can't think of much positive to say. But.........getting rid of the dross really has to be the first step. It is worth any risk because failure to do so will, in my view, just perpetuate the malaise.

Restructuring the squad might make things worse before they get better. Doing nothing WILL just make things get worse.

I think of it rather like choosing which foot you would like to get kicked in the bollocks with.

Will loans be permitted next season?

Don't know why you're so bothered.

Part-timer ;)

Anyone who goes to darts rather than Bramall Lane, well!

I know, you went for the beer and the craic ....

Same reasons I go to the Lane most seasons

I understand where you're coming from and I agree with most of what you say but I am trying to remain upbeat. We've sent loads of players out on loan, most of whom won't return I guess and this close season will tell us everything we need to know about the commitment of the board and, most importantly, the true measure of the managerial skills of Nigel III.

Be interesting to read what Leicester City fans were saying on their forums last July - that's the beauty of football you just don't know what happens next...

Looking forward to 2016/17, think it will be our season. There's still enough quality in our squad for this division

But that's been the case for the past five years, and we are now even further away from achieving our goal. For me the longer it goes on the harder it gets. Of course one day we will strike it right, but there is nothing to suggest it will be in the very near future.

Will loans be permitted next season?
I think so, my understanding is that it's the shorter term emergency loans outside the transfer window that's being banned by Fifa. Season long or half season long loans should still be possible.

A lot less than ten times I would possibly go below 5
