Why should we be a few seasons away from a promotion challenge though? I don't get this sentiment.
Without sounding like a pig, we are the man city / Real Madrid of this division. We have the biggest fan base by some 10K+ (with the exception of Bradford who give their tickets away), we should have the biggest budget based on crowds, commercial revenue, plus the supposed 8million plus put in by our owners each year. We are debt free, have tremendous facilities, should easily be able to recruit the best players from league 1. It's just that recent recruitment have gone for championship hasbeens.
It shouldn't take two or more seasons to mount a promotion challenge. We should be able and ready to do it next year with all of our resources. Burton have done it straight out of league 2 with next to nothing, Walsall and Gillingham have done it this year out of nothing.
Saying it should take us two more years to get out of this shite league is the equivalent of saying it will take two years for the likes of Chelsea or man city to qualify for the champions league, because that is the comparable size of us in this league.
How the fuck have the mindsets of our board and some of our fans changed from being a top 6 championship club, to now a mid table league 1 club who are now writing off the next two years. It's mental.
There shouldn't be any debate about it. The mindset should be we're the biggest fish in this pond, we have more resources than everyone else, we will get the best players out of this division, add in experienced quality like Billy Sharp and storm out of this league. Just like Wolves, Charlton, Bristol City and Wednesday did.
