Is it really just because folk can't sit in their normal seats

That's not the reason i didn't go. I didn't go because of a few things:
  • early cup games are also boring - never any atmosphere.
    • The club know this as they don't even open the Kop
  • It was a ridiculous day and time to kick off.
  • It was freezing
If it was Saturday at 3pm. I'd have probably made the effort

My only annoyance from last night is that we didn't rest more players. If you're essentially going to forfeit the tie then no first team players should have been playing outside of McCallum, RND, A Davies and Brewster who could do with 90 minutes.

Can you remember the fine details of other cup knock-outs at this early stage?

This match won't be given a second thought after next Saturday, personally I couldn't have cared less about it win or lose.

Our kids are six points clear at the top of the Development League.

Apart from that and the fact we’ve produced a legion of top quality talent this last 10-15 years punching way above our weight (to the envy of clubs far bigger than us) he was right….maybe…

(more than a whiff of pork)

..because despite me thinking today would be a nice idea to rest the first 11, that performance was one of the worst ever at Bramall Lane. No fight, no eagerness, no tempo, clumsy, I could go on. Angry and not happy on this cold Thursday night, now go and win the league! UTB
Everything you've said is what's said for many ways rounds of the cup games were in like Crewe in 2016 in the league cup and Barnet in the fa cup in the promotion season.

It's largely irrelevant

I guess we'd get fined from the FA if we did that.

Ditto this. Also because of the reasons above surely the ticket price should've either been lower or something like 2 for 1? Poor kick off time and date, baltic weather conditions, everyone knowing we were going to play a much weaker squad. Never been a £15 fixture

would we? Only Burrow, Brooks and Gilchrist fit into regular first team starters. And isn't a small fine less than their weekly wages anyway?
I'd say Davies, RND & Brewster would be classed as first team players too. If we were PL, they'd all be in the 25-man squad.

We then had Robinson, Hamer, O'Hare and Anel on the bench

We did it years ago where you got 1 or 2 home cup times included with the Season Ticket. We should reintroduce this.

There's a gamble involved for the club obviously, as if we got a good tie, everybody would go and they'd miss out on revenue..
But surely last night would have been 12-15,000 if it was free. This would mean more people in the ground using the food and drink stalls etc. and visiting the club shop beforehand

one of the worst ever at Bramall Lane.
I wasn't there last night, but as a regular fan a BDTBL from the mid 70s onwards I think you may be exaggerating a little.
Still I would like to think some experience was gained by some of the players last night.

You get around £2 million for winning the FA Cup, that's like peanuts compared to what money we gain achieving promotion.

It's also the difference in money between finishing 13th and 14th in the premier league.

FA Cup is just a glory trophy that won't be won by anyone other than a select few teams.
I agree 100% we are not winning the fa cup that said I'd take an fa cup with over promotion to the premier league all day long. Winning the fa cup would live a lot longer in the memor would never be forgotten ... We can dream

The food and drink stalls are run by Compass, who have paid for the privilege. United won’t see a penny from any pie sales, so they won’t give a shit how many get sold.

Why is it then that our kids are always worse than the other teams kids?

It is a joke. No wonder Sheff Utd are for their size of club the most under achieving professional one in England. In the last 100 years I think we've won 3 things. The 2nd div championship in the fifties and in my lifetime the 4th division and League one. Fucking ace !

Never won a cup final or appeared in one since 1925, never won a play off final. Absolute garbage record.
Really?? Our ''kids'' have brought in a massive amount of revenue during the last 20-25 years (woodhouse, wayne quinn, harry, walker, jags, mitch ward, david brookes, slew, adams, ramsdale, naughton, lee morris, etc.). I'd wager pound for pound our ''kids'' have generated a higher proportion of income than many other clubs. Who was the last ''kid'' the pigs invested in and sold for good money? Some clubs are just at it - Palace, Peterborough, Brentford, etc. We are too, and with the new academy status it will determine where our future lies. We produce ''kids'' much better than other clubs, and make money. Without them i dread to think where we would be.

It's not the playing kids that bothers me. We all knew kids would be played.

The bit that does bother me is that we're losing at home with paying "punters" as Chris likes to call them, and instead of putting on O'Hare, Anel and Hamer to go and equalise, he puts on 2 more youths players.
That's not on in my book. That's throwing the game.
If he'd come out beforehand saying no first teamers will feature, I think the crowd would have been even less.

I feel sorry for the 6k there. They should all be refunded
Tha' would have been *issed if O'hare Hamer Anel had got a knock and missed Norwich

Or it could be the start of a 20+ match winless run...

I think the difference between the teams is that ours had more kids that would ordinarily be playing U21 footbal and theirs, although perhaps not first eleven, were still more experienced and more like fringe players. We don't have the luxury of having so many fringe players. Ideally, Sydie Peck would have played last night as a youngster, but because he's now a vital part of the first team and needs a rest, he didn't.

The disappointing thing was the performance of our more senior players. RND was awful before going off, McCallum (who I like) was awful, Brooks had a shocker, Burrows played out of position and was ok, as was Gilchrist, Brewster was his usual self. The amount of times those players gave the ball away in poor areas, made poor decisions, shooting when it clearly wasn't on, getting robbed of the ball, was extremely poor. I count Brooks as senior only because he's been playing first team football for a year.

For the record, I bought a ticket and then decided not to go and in the end i was glad I didn't. I see that the £15 can go towards the transfer kitty.

To be honest I didn’t think I’d feel this deflated by not being in the bag for the next round…We’ve had some good memories in the cup.

Not sure, but our attendances for these cup games are always low relative to other clubs of our size, which is also strange seeing as we're a "cup team" that often gets to the later rounds.
But we’ve already been fielding a weakened team in the Championship…so I suppose we knew what to expect last night.

Given how cold it was last night, just imagine if hamer, anel. or o'hare had come on and twinged a hamstring or another muscle. There would have outcry. Made me think, watching the West Ham game, with their German pulling up.

Call me negative, pessimistic or whatever.. Chris threw the game away without giving a single fuck. It was yet again another painful display of creating next to fuck all without Hamer or O’Hare. I can’t believe he made them two warm up for 15 minutes without playing them. I find it pretty disrespectful in Chris calling me a punter when I’ve paid £16 to watch that shit and attend near enough every game since he turned up for his first spell in 2016 and I’m certainly not the only one in that position.

Their German reserve player who’s as handy as toothache ? Still not good for the lad but it’s like us starting Louis Marsh.

Watched the extended highlights earlier, didn't realise last night that Cardiff had played quite a few of their more experienced players.

Perry Ng, Rinomota and Joe Ralls (their captain) have got years of experience between them, Horvath is a decent keeper in the championship and that Colwill is meant to be one of their best players.
