..because despite me thinking today would be a nice idea to rest the first 11, that performance was one of the worst ever at Bramall Lane. No fight, no eagerness, no tempo, clumsy, I could go on. Angry and not happy on this cold Thursday night, now go and win the league! UTB

Davies, Robbo, Sam Mac, burrows, One, brooks, Brewster, Alfie - all had EFL game time this season

We don’t have the squad to deal with a cup run and PL push, so happy to go out, would have just liked to go out fighting

We could have been better in many areas, but there was certainly fight and eagerness, perhaps too much at times as you say, it was clumsy. I'd say a lot of rushed passes and poor decisions. It's never good to lose, but i think it will have been a decent run out for many of those players

To be honest, although I always want United to win, last night was an exception and I am glad we are out because we don’t have the squad to cope with a cup run and a push for promotion. It wasn’t the worst ever but it was a predictable and boring match too watch. I am glad I could watch it on bbc Wales and not have to endure the cold or the journey. We rested most of the first team and that objective was achieved. Onwards and upwards now with hopefully some new talented players joining.

It's not the playing kids that bothers me. We all knew kids would be played.

The bit that does bother me is that we're losing at home with paying "punters" as Chris likes to call them, and instead of putting on O'Hare, Anel and Hamer to go and equalise, he puts on 2 more youths players.
That's not on in my book. That's throwing the game.
If he'd come out beforehand saying no first teamers will feature, I think the crowd would have been even less.

I feel sorry for the 6k there. They should all be refunded

Absolute rubbish. These youngsters are not ready physically or mentally

I think part of the problem is when you throw youngsters in especially quite a few they need leadership and direction. Unfortunately the first teamers that played are either fairly inexperienced themselves or not natural leaders so it all looked a bit directionless and at times chaotic.

Id already forgotten about it.

Players need resting, new players need bought, were aiming for auto promotion. It was a non event. The few thousand that actually turned up showed that.

I've no real issue with Cardiff, if they go on a cup run then marvelous but even if you'd have offered me a straight win last night and a positive cup run I'd still turn it down. Fine well lose out on some cash but promotion and squad numbers\injuries are more important (as far as I'm concerned anyway) than any cup match.

Fuck it, from here on I'll actively cheer for Cardiff, go for it.

One of the worst ever at Bramall Lane? Do you not think that might be a slight exaggeration?

We lost 0-1 to a Championship team with a bunch of kids. We move on. Christ.
Why is it then that our kids are always worse than the other teams kids?

It is a joke. No wonder Sheff Utd are for their size of club the most under achieving professional one in England. In the last 100 years I think we've won 3 things. The 2nd div championship in the fifties and in my lifetime the 4th division and League one. Fucking ace !

Never won a cup final or appeared in one since 1925, never won a play off final. Absolute garbage record.

I was one of the paying punters but one who chose not to go in the end - which left me feeling quite relieved after watching the match on TV. Expecting us to pay good money to watch the team that was put out and non use of experienced subs was a bit of an insult.

However it's all down to money in my eyes - doing well in the FA Cup is for glory but entering the Premier League is a potential goldmine. I think it was obvious we were going to play a weakened team and personally I'm not sure what was going through my mind when I bought the ticket - especially with having a 50 mile journey to get there in the first place!

You get around £2 million for winning the FA Cup, that's like peanuts compared to what money we gain achieving promotion.

It's also the difference in money between finishing 13th and 14th in the premier league.

FA Cup is just a glory trophy that won't be won by anyone other than a select few teams.

I didn't like how Chris criticised the younger players in his post match interview and hardy mentioned the senior ones who were just as poor, if not worse, in some cases.
Then as has been said, to not make any changes, and when they are finally made to bring on more young lads right at the end.

The whole attitude of the match stank of we're not bothered, we don't want any injuries and we're not going to make substitutions to try and win the game so it's no surprise we got the performance we did, and that comes from the manager.

Chris said we lost because Cardiff's young lads were better than ours. I don't believe that's true or he believes it. Would he swap Brooks, One, Marsh etc. for any of theirs? I seriously doubt it. They, and Cardiff's management who were proactive with their substitutions, just wanted to win more.

Wilder said this a couple press conferences ago so i'm not sure why people are surprised? Majority of those players that played last night should be out on loan of course they're not ready physically or mentally they all still need to plough their trade at a lower level. 20 Games to go, a point off top, players coming back from injury and players to come through the door. Lets get behind em for the run in ⚔️

What a load of bollocks.
Wilder sent them out last night with one instruction, don't get injured. We played with a makeshift midfield and a number of players starting a senior game for the first time.
How can you possibly make a statement that "our kids are always worse than other teams kids".
Our track record of producing top players through our academy is better than most teams in the country.

Anyone who went last night knew exactly what the game was gonna be like unless they’ve been living under a rock during wilders cup fixtures- he doesn’t care about them.

I was there, knew what was likely because CW made it pretty clear before the game. To be honest, when Hampson and Colechin came on I was slightly relieved. None of us wanted extra time, it was freezing and anyway I wanted to go for a curry... The obvious question is whether I need my head testing for buying a ticket in the first place.

I felt sorry for the kids. Not the ones on the pitch - the ones in the stands with their parents/grandparents.
Who knows, they might have been first-timers, enticed by the low ticket price. Hopefully, they'll come back, but then again maybe they won't!

Well technically, they're not.
Both the u21s and u18s are 6pts clear at the top of their leagues.

Yes Cardiff had some kids out there too, but they also had a first choice Centre Half (Daland), First Choice Left Back (Bagan) and good experience in midfield - Ng and Ralls. Ruben Colwill the other midfielder at 22, who has played 24/26 games for them.

They then brought on first teamers for the last part of the game - Robertson, Siopis and Rinomhota.
We brought on Robinson (forced), Colechin and Hampson.

Most of their team were established, senior players. I think the only kid that they played was the right back and he was dreadful.

Agree that Wilder had made it clear beforehand that they would be playing the kids, I guess I just hoped we might win the game anyway! Had that Burrows shot gone in we could have said we were there to see a great goal. I was also not keen on the idea of extra time, but just a bit annoying that the team we put out on the night didn't show any quality to win the game in 90 mins.

To be honest if the first team, even in name only, are playing in Sheffield I find it odd that Blades living Sheffield wouldn't go and see them if they can afford the £16 for a ticket. Is it really just because folk can't sit in their normal seats on the Kop? We sit on BL Upper Corner so have to move for cup games, doesn't bother me in the slightest. Appreciate it was cold and icy last night but we didn't know that when we bought a ticket.

Not sure, but our attendances for these cup games are always low relative to other clubs of our size, which is also strange seeing as we're a "cup team" that often gets to the later rounds.
