Let’s be frank

Whenever the crowd is shown it shows people with their head down looking at their phones.

I sit at the back of the South Stand and my row is pretty decent, not loads of chanting, but some, and plenty of pashun when it comes to swearing at the ref and half of the row in front towards the stairs, but for about 5 rows down from the back in the Kop end of the South all I can see is people checking their accas.

Maybe it's just because I'm from a family that's historically not had a pot to piss in, but going to a game is a treat, I'm lucky to be able to afford to go, and I want to watch it. I can drift in and out of games checking the scores and my 23 fold 15,000/1 bet at home.

It's obviously a personal choice and I won't argue with those doing it, but I find it hard to imagine I'll ever understand it, especially because they're different people mostly every match so are likely POTG paying the most money for the privilege.

The Norwich fans were exactly the same on Friday night and they are virtually over the finish line.

Though the 30 points still to play for may say otherwise.

The Pork grunters could still be champions.

Bring back those wonderfully uncoordinated, pre-pubescent Bladettes, and have them lead the chants in their shrill little voices. Bound to work..........

Or....

Maybe it is time for the move to US style cheerleaders - it would give us something to look at whilst Rotherham are deciding whether or not they want to keep playing.

However It may be a problem finding a dozen or so suitable physical specimens in our supporter base!

Give me a ‘B’ - ‘B’
Give me an ‘L’ - ‘L’
Give me an ‘A’ - ‘A’
Give me a ‘D’ - ‘D’
Give me an ‘E’ ..............actually just give me an ‘E’

They are still avoiding defeats rather than being on a winning run. Drawing a lot is not a great unbeaten run. If we had drawn as many this place would be in meltdown saying we were blowing it

I actually think its a societal thing. On average we are becoming more nervous and risk averse. In the Basset era and others there was none of this I'm too nervous crap, we had a fun match day out, high spirited gung ho attitude and rarely let adversity get us down or stop our singing.

Take Brexit for example, half the population are scared of the unknown when they have no real reason to be scared and moan and the only bad info they have is from other nervous scared of the dark people which reinforces their fear.

We are becoming more dumbed down frightened people. I don't know why, I suspect social media and our flicky flicky mentality encourages and reinforces negativity and is partly responsible.

Football will be like going to the cinema soon, with people saying shush if someone talks.

I've been watching us since the 4th division and don't remember a time where the atmosphere at the game has been particularly full of songs being sung, I've been to some pretty raucous games where the atmosphere has been electric but it's more of a roar and a hostility thst you don't get at many grounds and you can't recreate that

I think what some people are expecting is a kind of americanised sing a long with every one singing daft songs like at an away game and in my experience football at the lane has never been like that
Maybe the Steelers would be a better day out for them

Agreed - There were plenty of games over the last 35 years with quiet crowds, even with standing. Remember the whistling call and responses when it was quiet?

And ‘sing up Shoreham’ and ‘John Street, John Street give us a song’ when the only noise you could hear were blokes grumbling about how shit we were.

Having this bloody stupid twitter man of the match vote helps too of course.

Wouldn’t mind but they get it wrong so many times. Egan has been man of the match so many times and not even appeared in the list and yesterday surely JOC should have at least been a choice.

I transferred from the kop to the South Stand today. I can confirm that on occasions I stood up. I also sang and swore. The F word was used several times at Vaulks. Will never use the C word. I’m old fashioned like that. Nobody told me off for my loud support. I am a one man atmosphere.

I bet you never touch downstairs either , before touching upstairs ;)

I know this in social media age they say a lot to particularly females. dont have unrealistic expecations & try to compare yourself to online image.

I wonder if this atmosphere problem is apart of that. because I do think there is a ground that has that noise anywhere in the country 100% or even 50% of the time. but because we will only watch other teams probally a few times a season in derbies, cup games or play off games or see the highlights on MOTD. we assume its like that all the time. I wouldnt be surprise if celtic outside of rangers & European nights have the exact same problem. the Roar from the Kop when we were counter attack was still as good as ever but we are not Germany Turkey or Argentina. we are England. theres going to be lulls in 90 min 23 game (home) season. you cant expect it to be raucous for 34/35 hrs straight

Yellarbellyblade I voted for fleck out of the options because I thought he was brilliant in middle of the park. but surely british people are always trust worthy when it comes to a big vote

I'm fucking outraged about this.

In fact I'm so outraged that I can't be outraged about the players and manager any more, that I need to embrace this outrage.

What is it we're all outraged about again?

Oh yeah. Vuvuzelas and happy clappers are the way. And a drum. And a banner saying Steel City Ultras.

Common sense factual posts aren't appreciated in this debate mate. Please take them elsewhere.

I've been everywhere and I have no skewed perception of how good or bad other clubs' support is. What I can say is that some clubs who we consider 'inferior' are at least as loud - not because they have more fans who want to be vocal than us but because they have a more accommodating setup for those who do. But yes, the overall standard these days is poor.

If we want to compare then let's compare ourselves to Leeds next week. Another big, 'proper' club in Yorkshire who are doing well and have a lot to play for. Surely that's fair? Or should we compare to Reading and Bolton to make ourselves feel better?

Put the Birmingham v Villa game on now. Birmingham fans stood up on all sides of the ground. How the hell do they manage that? They're also loudly booing when Villa have the ball. We couldn't get anywhere near this at home to Wednesday.

Yes definately this and a drum. A big drum, One that someone bangs all the way throught the game. That'll show em!

Every Club should have a band . Look at them across the city, they have one and it literally rocks over there when the band starts doing it's stuff .

Singing section, free Season Tickets for Ultras, a Band etc etc etc , we have to do something and it needs doing pronto

No ' skewed perception ' ? Ar, oreight :D:D:D

I think it was because the game seemed a bit flat maybe? It seems to be a much better battle cry when its a tight game. Still it would be good if we could all sing regardless.
The Atmosphere was there until we scored! First 4 minutes we had 4 great chances, United where flying then we scored and then, for what ever reason they slowed the play down? passed it sideways, forward - back - sideways and that does not excite the crowd. I take your point that we all should sing and shout for 90 minutes regardless. We sit on John street and try to encourage the residents but not often forthcoming, the JS area needs to be excited by the performance... That’s the way it is!

how do you remain a ‘fanny magnet’ if you were watching us when we were in the 4th division?

The sing a long to moronic songs type of atmosphere is dated. The atmosphere is much quieter nowadays because most people feel embarrassed singing a load of bolox.
Football fans are a much more discernable, reserved and sensible compared to what they used to be
What’s most dreadful about this post is not the content, but the fact that you’re actually serious!

The atmosphere at St Andrews was shit today.

MOTD commentator said how the atmosphere at Anfield today was strangely quiet and suggested that this was due to the 12 o'clock kick off time.It always does seem to subdue the crowd and takes away some of the home teams advantage,it may help us at Leeds next Saturday.
