I thought with the season over, it would be a good oppurtunity to praise Leon Clarke. The fact we didn't end the season as well as we started shouldn't take away from what a fantastic season he's had individually.

I say this not only because he was the third top scorer and the highest from open play, but because he's exceeded my expectations to a great degree.

I was doubtful whether our strike force was going to be enough to keep us in the division pre-season. While we are surely still missing a bit of youth and pace it's hard to say Sharp and Clarke haven't delivered in terms of goals - they both have a tally to be proud of.

Clarke's 'Journeyman' career is well documented, but you may not know that this year's tally of 18 equals his best personal tally; at Coventry (13/14) - In league one. I think it's fair to say he's had the best season of his career and I'm glad we got to witness it rather than his previous clubs.

Speaking of his previous clubs, his tally of 18 equals his record during his entire 3 years at Wednesday - I guess they struggle to utilise good players? Seems like it with Rhodes.

Anyway, ramble over. Congratulations Leon.

His tally was actually 19.

When we signed him at 31 years old none of us thought we'd see the best of him. But we have, by quite a distance.

He had a huge workload last season and coped admirably throughout.

I didn't realise it was 19, my mistake. Even better!

Said it before, but to me, despite his age, Leon is the blueprint for the modern striker. Tall, solid build, pace, tricky feet, powerful shot, can score from anywhere and with feet or head.

Fantastic season for Leon, I think next season he will be the second choice striker, in front of Billy, yet behind a new striker coming in

So Donaldson thinks he contributed to our finishing 10th. Well he surely fucking did - a decent Striker instead of him and we would have been in the playoffs. IMO of course.

was just about to post almost the exact same thing  UTB

Watching that video, I realised I have no idea what Leon's preferred foot is. Some proper wallops with either left or right.

My theory is that he's genuinely two footed but prefers shooting with his left. But fuck knows!

Scored 4 against Hull and missed 3 more. His side foot goal at the kop end was one of the seasons highlights for me

I didn't think he had it in him to make the step up, I was wrong. Well done Leon, fair play.

It was the signing of Donaldson that pushed Clarke on. Up to that he looked like he was out of his depth.

I think with Leon it’s a case of confidence and belief and Wilders instilled that in him. He’s stuck with him when others have discarded him. Coupled with the fact he has conditioned himself to look the fittest he’s ever been and that he’s older and wiser now we are finally seeing the player he maybe could have been years ago

I can still imagine it now when the equaliser went in,
"YEEEEESSSSSSSS!!!!, GET IN. Now, let's go on and win this f****r.....oops!

I’m not sure that’s completely true. Clarke had played 3 games this season before Donaldson was signed. I don’t remember him looking out of his depth at any point
