I know this is not the thing to say when we have done so well but next year will be more difficult and any weaknesses will get much more exposed

No, it is definitely NOT the thing to say an hour after a great win.

Leave the pessimism until we are actually up, and just enjoy the champagne football we are being served.

Except Clarke gets goals and Hanson is not exactly Captain prolific...I think CW has still not quite found his optimal strike force..I know this is not the thing to say when we have done so well but next year will be more difficult and any weaknesses will get much more exposed

I don't think either will be good enough for the Championship. Hanson maybe as a target man but goals will be harder to come by for us. Clarke has never really done it a step up while often looking too good for this level. But they are both good examples of the type of signing we've failed to make in too many campaigns; relatively low cost and good enough to get you up a level where you can worry about who to sign next.

I'm one of Clarke's biggest critics, and he really made a huge difference when he came on. Still tackled himself a few times, but he looked so much fitter and keener than we've seen him this season and there was so much more urgency when he and Carruthers came on.

As for Hanson, I think that's the best target man performance I've ever seen by a Blade. Not just how many aerial balls he won, but how he considers the position of himself, opponents and teammates every time, directing his headers win so much consideration, knowing when he had time to bring the ball down. If he'd scored (one great and one good chance first half, one good chance second half that he made with a great turn) it would have been a 10/10.

Never would have thought, back at the time this thread started, the game that effectively sealed promotion would have ended with Clarke and Hanson up front in a 4-4-2!

hes scored 34 goals in the championship in 104 appearances there

name me one better we could sign for 250 k
according to wiki he's actually scored 35 goals in the championship in 8 seasons at that level, or 4.5 goals a season.

14/15 he scored 3 in 26 appearances
10/11 he scored 1 in 19 appearances

However you are right that 7 or 8 years ago for Wednesday he did pretty well, scoring 14 over 2 seasons in 65 games

He' not a proven Championship goal scorer. There is not one double digit return in his career at that level.

I think he's a decent league 1 striker when fit. Not at all convinced he's a proven championship goal scorer as you originally stated

Bile???

I just wrote he's a decent signing for a team wanting to get out of league 1. Which is what we are .

You are stating he's a proven championship goal scorer. Which he clearly isn't

Are you taking your meds at the moment?

Hanson got pulled and pushed about all game but still won the ball, I thought the ref was abysmal he gave us nothing all game. I thought Clarke did ok too could be a vital goal that one.
I hope Hanson gave his shirt to that clown who had hold of it all night.

How can the ref and linesmen miss this when it's obvious to everyone in the ground?

I too have been highly critical of Leon Clarke, but when he came on tonight I thought he looked a totally different player to what I've seen before. He worked hard, got involved and had great movement, which really caused the Coventry defence problems.
Great performance, if he can maintain a similar level of desire and enthusiasm, I could even see a role for him next season and that's something I would never have said ! :)

why that fucking abusive last comment
not needed, very childish
I did nt abuse you kindly show some respect

hes scored there we need that

Don't know why people have been so down about him. He was a good gamble when we brought him in and injuries have gone against him. He wouldn't be on the bench at most League One clubs. Fantastic squad when you can bring on a player like that from your bench.

The thing is he signed a 3 year contract on good money by League One standards. You don't give those sort of contracts to players who are gambles.

For the money he has cost, he has been a poor signing, but no manager will ever have a 100% record with signings.

as i said to the twat on isle D who is always on Clarkes case., fucking zip it now son

you started it with the bile comment. Don't expect respect when you don't show it

He scored a good goal. can't argue with that

I meant the general bile in here in ,any threads discarding him before hes had a proper chance , fit , to show his worth
wheres the lack of respect there
you cant deny hes took immense unwarranted stick in here

I think we all better get used to seeing a lot more of Leon Clarke, because whether you like it or not Chris Wilder rates him.I was very surprised how aggresively he pursued Clarke and upset Bury and Flitcroft in the process,he was so determined to sign Clarke he offered a 3 year contract to make sure he got him.His season long injury prompted the signing of Hanson, but make no mistake Wilder really rates Clarke !!

it was pretty brave he could have got clattered. i reckon he won nearly every ball in the air.. they gave up going for them 2nd half

My biggest gripe with Hanson is his lack of movement and how that means that Billy has to make up for that by running the channels.

The first half was a perfect example of that issue, Billy is hardly in the box whilst Hanson is always in there. To me Billy should be in the goal scoring position because we all know he's more likely to score given half the chance.

He signed him to help get us out of League One, does he rate him for the Championship? I doubt he does personally.

I don't know how much money he was on, but I do know he'd just come from Bury (a poor side in which he'd scored roughly one in two) so probably wasn't on huge amounts.

Every signing is a gamble to some degree but you can't judge individual gambles in hindsight. If we'd known he'd spend a lot of the season injured then of course we wouldn't have signed him, but there's no way to know that. We did know his goals record, and that made him worth a punt.

What about that sitter he missed in the first half?

What about it? Missed a good chance under pressure. That doesn't sum up his performance.

Apparently we don't have strikers who can cut it in the Championship - evidently we will need the prolific goal-scoring feats and wizardry of Jordan Rhodes for example. I'd admit to seeing him on Sky last night but don't think he actually came out of the tunnel - or did he?

Really hope we start Clarke on Saturday and hopefully afterwards too.

He's a better player than Hanson and there's no reason he can't work with Billy at least as well as Hanson playing in this team.

He can run, he can control the ball and make things happen. That's what we need up front. Not just a big stiff lump.
