Went to the common room last night to watch footy and Clarke was watching it on his tod. He looked miserable so I thought I'm not going to bother saying hello.

My mate decided to though. Now we're winning 2-0 at this point and my mate says "looking good this mate, 2-0 isn't it" Clarke says "is it?" And pulls out his phone then changes his mind and puts it back in his pocket.

Seems strange to me that he wasn't even bothering to check the score. Found that annoying that he clearly didn't care.

I'm not sure he even knows what day it is. Don't think he's quite all there.

Needless to say, if it's an attitude problem he has, he probably won't be near the starting XI for a long time.

I remember someone ringing Bob Jackson years back all incredulous because Glynn Hodges asked him the United score while in the Yorkshire Grey.

To be honest, as a Blades fan, if you were a journeyman footballer who didn't get a game at Coventry or someone, your 20th club...

I would probably pretend to be enthusiastic in that scenario though.

He's injured and probably pissed off. He knows he won't walk back into the side and might end up as a bit part player. I'd be pissed off if I was him, especially if I had to go out on my own.

Difficult to know how some players deal with injuries and spells out of the team, especially if they have other things going on in their heads...

Lets hope he sorts his head out or CW does it for him, 3 year contract at 31 not great.

We all know he's a journeyman and a bit of a mercenary. As long as he gives his all when he is involved then I'm not bothered.
And you honestly believe a mercenary journeyman has a place anywhere near this squad ?

The good news is when he's fit, he'll get token minutes from off the bench.

ALL things considered, bewildering signing ;)

Or he's superstitious and likes to avoid the score until after the game?
This current run started whilst I was at a Wedding and missing the game. I found we'd won after the event. For all the games since then I've either been at the match or avoiding any news until I know it's all over. Makes for a tedious couple of hours but it's going to be like that until we lose I'm afraid.

Not bewildering at all. There have been times when we could have done with him, like Bristol Rovers at home. Just because we've beaten a couple of teams that suited how we're playing doesn't mean there won't be a role for him. Teams will work us out and try to stop us playing out from the back and he'll give us an out.
But I'd be surprised if he starts every game when fit.

All right then. Bewildering to me. Bad fit. Said so in July. Nothing's changed my mind.

It was indeed a puzzling one from Chris. 3 year contract as well. But I don't think he's the stubborn type of guy and I think he'll admit himself it probably wasn't the best decision he's ever made.

Let's see how it pan's out re: Clarke over the (long) season (same with Lavery) they both might have a part to play and it's almost certain that we'll have a dip in form at some point and need to shake things up, if only from the bench...could have done with him the other week at Fleetwood by all accounts...

P.S- re: the supposed 'attitude'...I reckon Wilder is on top of that sort of stuff at the moment...

I agree he should definitely have foreseen the injury that Clarke has sustained. Bizarre decision to sign him knowing full well he was going to get injured after just a few weeks of being here

tbf to the guy he was supposidly one of our better players during the bad start, then got injured. Whats to say he wouldn't return to his usual self (scoring for fun in this league)in this confident team.

He's still injured. Saw him yesterday with his pot back on his foot. His injury might well have reoccurred so that could be why he's grumpy.

Better according to whom. The S2 Hoofwaffe ????

Tell it like it is. He was wank (albeit in a wank side at the time).

Maybe his performances will improve in a better performing side.

Maybe I'll kop a gander at the Queens tits :)

According to general opinion at the time, you can't doubt the lad at this level. Proven many times, should be no different for us. At the very least a great option to have off the bench and a striker with different abilities to our others.

I can and I do doubt the lad.

An option from the bench ? OK I'll give you that.

Not having a go at the OP.
Just can believe all the stick Clarke is getting from some on here.
While on another thread some still think McNulty could be our saviour.

Clarkes record in League one
App Goals
5 3
16 8
14 9
15 11
34 23
29 19

Not bad returns.
Clarke's not pulled up any trees so far at United, but he has struggled with injury.
His record speaks for itself in this division.
I'm convinced once fit he'll play a big part in our challenge for promotion.

Give me Clarke over McNulty every day of the week.

Nando Torres.
Andy Shevchenko
Fran Jeffers.

Good strikers with vastly superior pedigree to Leon Clarke can go bad.

Clarke is important to the squad because we don't have any other strikers like him. Someone with height and strength who can hold up the ball.

So dependant on the opposition he's a good weapon to either start or bring on as sub.

Also the guy has a good record in league 1 so deserves respect. I wouldn't write him off yet.

We've got a good target man already who consistently manages to retain possession of the ball, when it's not 10 feet in the air that is.

Clarke is terrible at retaining possession.

In a nutshell, that's my point.
