Leon’s missing poppy?

I used to wear a poppy but don’t any longer because it doesn’t feel right for me.
Due to the political correctness and pressure for everyone to wear a poppy.

It’s a strange one because a poppy symbol should represent freedom and democracy but too much pressure to wear one is the opposite of what it suppose to represent.

Same here. I give to a lot of charities including the British legion. Two separate charities I subscribe to. I'm a soft touch for beggars and drop them my change even though the odds are that some of them earn more money than some people who work for a living. But fucked if I'm going to walk around wearing a poppy just because some sanctimonious arsehole says so.

Some right shit being spouted on social media in recent days about poppy wearing. I fucking despise the extreme right and left who seek to politicise it.

Seen some utterly pathetic convoluted reasons as to why people don't wear them or what it stands for.

I don't believe anyone should be made to wear one but equally no-one should be wrongly judged for doing so.

I wear mine every year because I was brought up to respect the sacrifice my Grandad and millions of others made. It wasn't just those who perished, it was the impact that remained for those who came back. My Dad didn't have the relationship with his Dad he could have as a result.

People of my generation and younger have had it easy in general by comparison.

Everyone knows why poppies are worn at this time of year and have been for decades. So if you don't want to wear one fine, but don't make bullshit remarks about how its war mongering or how it disrespects Ireland or other religions.

Crab told me you put an old type pound coin in his cup last week, although you did pat his dog.

The whole Poppy watch at this this time of the year doesn't half get my goat up. The Poppy fascist's are the worse type's of c*$%s about. 99% of them will have never wore a Poppy till it became "fashionable" in the last decade of so. The same people moan about PC gone mad etc etc, Poppy watch is the worse type of PC gone mad, for example anyone and I mean anyone appear on TV without one better get ready for the Poppy fascist's to come after them in a big way and hound the life out of them.

These same c*&$s will have a lovely cheap enamel badge bought from ebay or anywhere other than the official Poppy appeal, I have argued this point with Blades, they love hounding people yet have a Poppy/Sheff Utd badge, not one penny went to the Poppy appeal. Don't give me that sh1te about the point is having it on show as a show of support to our troops, no its not its about raising money, its a charity item to raise money not a fashion accessory.

As a man in his late 60s who served in the armed forces, who's father fought in WW2, Grandfather in WW1, I have always wore a poppy and remembered the fallen. I wear my Poppy with immense pride. But if someone does not want to wear one for whatever reason, political or personal then good for you. If you want to wear one then good for you. Poppy fascists need to get a life.

I prefer 'Unitedite' to 'Blade' really.
I almost exclusively use Blade these days. I’m a Blade, all you lot are Blades, the team are Blades (meaning I rarely say “Sheffield United”, if someone asks who I support I say “Blades” or “I’m a Blade”).

I swear this is in the right thread :tumbleweed:

It IS a free country, talk through the minute silence too if you want, you CAN do whatever, that doesn't mean some people won't be dissapointed.

Did we actually have one on Saturday? Was supposed to be after the bugler finished the Last Post, but it seemed to turn to applause after about 10 to 20 seconds.

Ah happy days, I just thought it could have been blood on a shirt or a ripped shirt or something, and that’s why it was changed. Like I said it was an honest question not a dig.. innocent until proven guilty and all that.
Good job tha didn't support Sunderland when McClean refused to wear one a year or more ago.

Bloody hell blades calm down, I only asked a question about weather he was wearing one or not. I found it strange that the rest of the lads had them on in the pics but he didn’t. I haven’t criticised him for not having it on nor have I said he should have it on. Some of the replies you get on here for asking a question can put you off posting your input and questions to fellow blades off for life. Thought we were all blades??
Wait till you suggest Billy Sharp isn't the best striker in the world, then you will feel the full wrath of TD and never post again.:p

Thought this was going to be about a lost cat. Was ready to print up posters for lamp posts and check my shed. But luckily Leon's poppy isn't a cat, or missing.

Probably for the best as it's probably been stuffed into a washing machine and signed for charity before it gets auctioned.

Well I bought a poppy on Saturday morning and lost all but the safely pin at the Lane, so I bought a replacement (British Legion) metal badge poppy in Bakewell today for a fiver. I hope some don’t feel that I’ve let the side down because I’ve succumbed to the poppy fascists.

Actually scrub that last sentence. If I want to to wear a poppy I will, I don’t need any fooker telling me why I shouldn’t, I’ll make my own mind up. I’m a Blade, I’ll do what I fookin want.

I don't see anyone saying you can't.

No, it had already been cleared that he'd changed his shirt before I commented.
Im just saying that if any player did refuse a free one that was going to be printed on by someone else, then it's different than if you dont go out of your way to buy one.

If any Sheffield United player refused to wear a free poppy printed on his shirt. Then thats fine by me.....

I watch Sheffield United because they are a football team from my city. Not a political vehicle.

this whole poppy thing coming into football makes me very uncomfortable.

If you like to show your pride & respect then great. Go do it. but DONT push this unto others. respect their decision not too.

fuck the poppy nazis (and nazis as well!!!)

Buying a British Legion badge is succumbing to the Poppy fascist's? what the hell are you talking about? I assume as it is me who has coined the phrase Poppy Fascist's a few posts above your post on here you are directing that at my me, again what are you talking about? You have clearly not read my post correctly. Everyone who wants to wear a Poppy SHOULD buy it from the British Legion like you have done, that's the whole point of the Poppy appeal. Also Poppy Fascists are the cretins who jump on the bandwagon and hound folk for NOT wearing a badge, not for wearing one.

So who told why you shouldn't? No one should be told not to wear one, or to wear one for that matter. In my experience its always people being told to wear one not the other way around so I'm genuinely interested in who told you that you shouldn't?

Thats not quite true. Poppy was a Cat and did go missing. But she gave her life so that I can proudly announce the new "meat" special at The Happy Crab*

*I wouldn't bother going looking for Butch the elderly Dog, Bruce the Lizard, Polly the Parrot or Sally the Budgie either.

Bon Appetit

For the avoidance of doubt, I’m sat reading this thread wearing a poppy on my poppy suit, sat on a bed full of poppies.

Erm, sorry I didn’t read your post pal, I’d have quoted you if I had, and as for you coining the phase ‘Poppy Fascism’ sorry to break it to you but you’re 2-3 years late. The liberal broadsheets like the Guardian started it and the phrase is all over the media, social and mainstream like Twitter.

What I would say having now read your post is that I agree with most of what you say. I’ve worked with British Legion on and off over the years (I’ve got a similar family background to you) and I know that twats making copies for their own profit costs us big. Where I do disagree with you is your last sentence mate. I’ve felt more than ever this year that there’s an equal if not bigger ‘Poppy Fascist’ movement that is trying to belittle and discredit the tradition even at member of parliament level. Just as many out there telling people not to buy one, how long before it becomes offensive? A few days ago the Independent newspaper was openly advocating that we ditch it just as good people had started collecting. You and I both know what a loss that would be unless the gap could be filled.

There is an anti Poppy Fascist moment out there with its own agenda trying to liken poppy wearers to war loving dinosaurs or National Front loving yobs, every bit as bad as the Poppy Fascists you mention who decry people who don’t wear a poppy. Neither are right and neither should be listened to and as I said, I’ll make my own mind up as should EVERYBODY else. That’s what we fought for.

Anyway, back to football eh? I only came on here to post a picture of Clarke in his poppy shirt. UTB

Its only right we remember , my father fought throughout the war and lost a lot of friends , Gunter, Fritz, Klaus and Herman
it must of hurt as he never talked about it much in Argentina after the war

You'll probably get more criticism from the grammar police than for the rest of your post.

I think I know him, small chap, toothbrush moustache. Always banging on about the trains running on time and annexing the Sudetenland. I knew him as Madolf Titler, but I always suspected that that was a pseudonym.
