Don't get upset about it, you were honest and so were the responses. You might need to get thicker skin on here pal.
For the record it WOULD have bothered me if he didnt wear a poppy, or I would have been eager to know why he chose not to at least.

It is a free country, that’s the only reason he needs.

Why? It's none of your business to know the reason why anyone should/shouldn't wear a poppy. It's a personal choice how you remember the fallen.

It's only the last few years that this,"You must wear a poppy or you are unpatriotic" nonsense has come to the fore.

The BBC (British Broadcasting Corporation for the avoidance of doubt) have been wearing them since October.

Remembrance is just that. A period to reflect on what has happened in the past, and to consider the feelings of families affected by the death of a loved one and to think about the men and women who, in the future, will also die to defend our democracy.

The wearing of a poppy is neither here nor there.

I dont recall not wearing a poppy becoming a hanging offence

Do mobs of ex service men go out on rememberance weeked beating up people not wearing one back in the UK now

You can tell its an International break when this thread is top of the pile in General Blades chat, and in 2nd place is the thread International break.

Anyway lets play a game, lets guess how many Back and sideways passes Garth Southgates exciting England side make against Germany. I'm going for 869.

I'll have a guess if you promise to count them...

None of my business? I said I'd be eager to know why, not that I will hunt him down and demand an answer.
If you don't want a poppy, walk past the t'old lad in asda with his medals on but to not have it on your shirt means you've specifically asked for a free one not to be added.
It IS a free country, talk through the minute silence too if you want, you CAN do whatever, that doesn't mean some people won't be dissapointed.

You're making the assumption that United had more than one set of shirts with a poppy on and seem to be missing the fact that Clarke had one on in the first half.

I'm guessing he simply changed his shirt rather than made an overt statement of not wanting to wear a poppy.

Doesn't mean anyone has to or should feel pressured into doing so. I don't give a shit if some people would be disappointed. People are disappointed every day. I went to Aldi and all their bananas were old and had dark marks all over them, and I was disappointed.

White poppies ftw anyway. People die in wars all over the world, and foreigners are people too.

I used to wear a poppy but don’t any longer because it doesn’t feel right for me.
Due to the political correctness and pressure for everyone to wear a poppy.

It’s a strange one because a poppy symbol should represent freedom and democracy but too much pressure to wear one is the opposite of what it suppose to represent.

Talking through a minutes silence is disrespectful and rude, no decent person would ever do that.
However not wearing a poppy isn’t disrespectful.
It’s like saying anyone that doesn’t go to a church on a sunday is disrespecting Christians.

Oh No, he did. That's been cleared up.
Like Wiz said we are arguing over something that hasn't happened.
Im just standing my ground because people are saying it's a free country which is true, but that also means that I'm free to support poppy wearing and feel let down when people argue against them.
Im not pushing my beliefs on people, I see a lot of you are against them now because of people like me so its kinda a vicious circle, but I like them and I will keep buying one.

I'm not against them. I wear one because I want too, not because I, or anyone else, thinks I should. (Or shouldn't for that matter) but my point was about your comment of "specifically asked for a free one not to be added" , when you have absolutely no idea if that was the case.

What a depressing thread I’ve just read, people trying to argue something that hasn’t even been said, mountain out of a fucking molehill.

I think it was the 'innocent until proven guilty and all that' comment that riled a few, myself included.

No, it had already been cleared that he'd changed his shirt before I commented.
Im just saying that if any player did refuse a free one that was going to be printed on by someone else, then it's different than if you dont go out of your way to buy one.

It's a slight shame for the charity auction of the shirts (believe this is happening?) as the shirt that Leon scored 4 in would've fetched a good price.
That's actually a much bigger and more relevant point.

I wont be sending any money to donkey sanctuarys or sonsor a lemur
the plight of Syrians and bangladesh refugees wont see any donations from me either
not hard hearted , just selecting what I can afford or care about like hospices here
I donate to childrens hospital and cancer research
I always donate to ex servicemans , I am one , but not bothered about a poppy

like most families you have finite resourses to be chritable and I want it to go to causes I can see benifit from it

anything beyond europe is not my concern
asia has enough riches to fund its own charities

I do feel our country should invest more to our sevicemen before any foreign aid is considered

Don't worry about the Donkeys & Lemurs. Your contract with Crab Catering (a division of Crab industries) is helping them both*

*check the ingredients.

For anyone to believe Leon suddenly thought at half time 'oh hells no, not in my name!', had a paddy and demanded a de-poppified shirt is pathetic. Altho even if he did, I personally couldn't care less.

The poppy is just the latest symbol to be adopted by chest thumping sanctimonious weirdos. I don't make a point to wear them like I used to, not since the crackpot joe public sandy vagina brigade religiously flares it's nostrils at anyone that doesn't pin 7 on their tie and buy's a shitty rubber 'help for heroes' wrist band. Fuck that. I respect those that lost their lives in both World Wars my own way, like visiting various sites of the fallen and taking an interest to read into the battles they fought.

And by having the poppy as the symbol of all wars since Cain and Abel played rock-paper-scissors just dilutes and cloud's it's original purpose.
