This isn't the official Roygbiv type thread where he goes out and gathers some written opinion from other forums and stuff, I will leave that to him as they are always a smashing read.

I did however live in Leicester for a couple of years and have a few mates who are Leicester City fans and we exchanged a couple of messages last night on Facebook regarding Hammond.

I will roughly quote the following comments.

- "Hammond is our poor man's Stevie G"

- "He's a very decent player and could easily be playing at a top end Championship club".

- "The only reason he isn't playing regularly in the Premier League is that he lacks pace".

- "He is the type of player who controls a game. He gets his foot on the ball and breaks stuff up"

- "His range of passing is good as well, he puts the ball around very well".

From what they say we have signed an absolute belter of a player, one who could and should be playing in the Championship. They argued that he could still do a job in the premier league in certain games but he just lacks the tempo and they have now signed other players which knocks him slightly down the pecking order.

I asked if he was more of a defensive type midfielder as that is how I viewed him.......They repled that he is an old fashioned, honest, no nonsense sort of player. He will quite happily work away doing all of the nitty gritty stuff and help with the defensive stuff he is very much a complete central midfielder and also looks to push his team further up the pitch.

Oh goodie - a second thread on Leicester fans view of Dean Hammond, to go with about 5 other Hammond threads

Refreshing browsers to avoid duplication is a really good idea on this forum

This is what my mate had to say

"Yeah, solid experienced midfielder. He had a run early last season when we had a few injuries and didn't look out of place in the Prem. When he was then got injured himself, it coincided with our poor run! He hasn't really had a decent shot since then. Not athletic enough to play at the same time as Cambiasso, and with Andy King and Gokhan Inler not even making the 11 at present, it is understandable he's moving on. I think he's a good Championship player, and a decent backup player in the Premier League, so he'll do a job for you. Never going to give you more than a 7 out of 10, he's not a flair player and I can't imagine he'll pop up with too many goals, but he will nearly always give you the 7, and will offer solidity. He's good at making those niggly fouls at the right time, often getting away with them. Pretty tall too (compared to our now tiny midfield!). I hope he does well for you."

Those are the two quotes I'm interested in...

If I have seen him before I don't recall anything about him so I will judge on his performance over a series games and not if he has a good or bad first one or two.

He surely has to be an improvement on what we have there now.

Let's sit back and watch the guy play football that's all we can do
We've been after him for a while who knows this could be the 1st peice of building a stronger squad a few more in obviouse positions and a nice little run of wins
Remember we are 6th and as yet IMO haven't played at our best
