Just watched a YouTube video of United at Leicester on that famous day in 1990 and when united scored that second goal a great chorus of “you’ll never walk alone”
Chimes up .
Was it that the blades or
Leicester who sang it ? And was it a respect thing after what happened after s6?Ive watched that video loads and only realised today so
Sorry if I’m been ignorant I was only 11 at the time like

In the 70’s and 80’s most clubs used to copy songs from other clubs.

I’ve heard us singing Liverpool’s “you;ll never walk alone” song
and Leeds “marching altogether” song many times in the 70’s and 80’s.

Think it’s just a random thing, nothing to do with respect as public media displays were an alien concept then.
These days it’s politically correct to respect anything and everything with applauses and silences every few matches.

Leicester fans didn't sing anything. There weren't enough of them in the stadium to get a song going.

We officially had 7,500 tickets, but this was back in the day when segregation wasn't as heavily controlled. United fans bought thousands of tickets in the Leicester sections. And many others went without tickets and bought the last ticket stub from the Leicester fans season tickets in the boozers and in the streets.

Leicester's last game at home before playing us had a 10,000 attendance against Oldham, who were in the hunt for a play off place themselves and brought 2,000 meaning there was about 8000 Leicester fans for their second to last home game.

There was around 22,000 at Filbert Street the day we played them

We’ve never had a Darlington or

Yes we probably had about 14,000 there all over the ground, fab day
Yes we did sing You never walk alone which then turned into the clapping version

What a day that was I went on a coach from the late lamented Domino pub there was a few likely lads on that day.I was in the stand opposite the one full of Blades that ran the length of the pitch got a bit tasty in amongst the Leicester fans that day:eek:

Was it a spontaneous thing ? Or had they been singing it all season? all fans sing the same things these days just mix the words and players names around .
Ynwa is more of a club anthem not as good as yfims tho ;)

One of my biggest life-errors was playing cricket that day, and not being at Leicester. Wish we had time travel :(
You're not the only one. I was unemployed at the time after leaving uni and didn't go but if I really made an effort I could have went. That and the 3.1 at Hillsborough are the two biggest Blades games I didn't attend although I was at Darlington. I wonder if Chris Wilder was at Leicester? But he said a while ago it's time to create new memories for all the younger fans and those that weren't at those games for whatever reason. And he's right. And then we won 4.2 at the Piggery. I think right now is a good time to be a Blade.

Have a look at the video and I think you'll spot CW :)

I was only 10 but it's still a day I will never forget.

Me & my dad were in the upper tier behind the goal, all Blades chants & shirts. No Leicester to be seen or heard.

It was only a couple of years ago, when I found the ticket in the programme, that I realised we were in the "home" end!!
Really wanted to go just to see me football team at the time but me Step dad told me I couldn’t
Go with him cause it was too dangerous(or8), pull him up on him to this day tbh only forgive him cause me real dad is a piggy so I realise what could have been

That's where I was. I'd driven down to Leicester the week before and easily got a ticket - no databases, loyalty points and all that crap back then. Before KO in that upper tier, nobody was sure who was who so - as was my wont back then - I got up on my seat and started 'We're on the march with Bassett's Army!' Cue a mass brawl but it was mostly Blades up there. After the final whistle, thousands of Blades invaded the pitch but a small bunch of Leicester fans charged in (obviously aggrieved that we were on 'their' pitch). They didn't last long.

A top, top day of the kind that probably wouldn't happen nowadays. Made all the better when we heard the pigs had gone down!

I was there on the “home” end upper tier. The best way I can describe it is having a dream about United doing something amazing but it wasn’t a dream!
Me too and a lot of the Blades in there were in fancy dress. Only regret being up there was we couldn't get on the pitch!

A.mob of Leicester fans came round from their main stand at the end of the game and it got quite nasty. Same outside too on way back to the train station...the Baby Squad weren't happy !!

We regularly sang 'You'll Never Walk Alone' throughout the 80s; once normally followed by a clapping version. It took on added poignancy when we sang it against Brentford in the first game to be played in Sheffield after the Hillsborough disaster. We also regularly sang 'Marching On Together' but with 'Blades' instead of 'Leeds'.
