it was utterly amazing game in that we were getting battered, did we get out of own half for 1st 30 mins. & like many said for me i was looking at this game for 6 weeks saying that this game was huge & we couldnt lose it otherwise it was certainly playoffs but if we could get a point or even 3 then promotion was very possible. relief was finally after years of watching us cocking it up when it really mattered. for the 1st time in a long long time. that we played in arguably the biggest game of weekend. & we turned up. i would say in maybe wilders greatest tactical game. while here

but I was listening to the fighting talk podcast & mina rzouki made a great point about Athletico Madrid game. why is defensive excellence demonised. & made me (aside from Norwich vibes) what was different to what wilder did to what simeone did at Anfield

Watched it in a pub in Lisbon. 3 Blades vs a dozen or so Dirties from Devon " you won't get out of here alive if you win". We did and we did.

Was in a hotel room in Manchester that day. Fucking roasting. No Sky and no internet so had to endure Final Score. Still, twas all worth it to see L**ds well and truly bottle it!

Think Leon got an assist for Wigan too!

I was on a flight out of Amsterdam back to Manchester. Was 0-0 when I turned my phone off for take off - when I turned it back on and saw it was 2-0 to Wigan there were a few passengers around me giving me a strange stare when I shouted GET IN !!

Every time I watch it, when the commentator says "Basham's arriving!" , the hairs on the back of my neck stand up.

One of the defining moments of the promotion season.

“Basham’s Arriving !!” is our “They think it’s all over” moment of that Season .

Basham will probably be the one remembered the most for that game, but as he’s so far gone unmentioned I wanted to just say that Martin Cranie was superb in this one. He made an excellent block first half to deny a goal and was calmness throughout in a game where I was definitely not calm. One of his best games for us.

And to be fair Basham could have been hauled off after 30 minutes as he was having a shocker. But what character, what a guy. He's our modern day Bob Booker.

Very similar type .Not the most gifted but my they put a real shift in.110 % every match.They were and are just what us Blades like , real grafters.

as much as I would have loved to have been there in person to see it, there was something about the tv angle that made Bash's goal extra magical. for a few seconds you see Sharp getting hold of the ball and turning Cooper inside and out but you're thinking "where's he going with this" as the Leeds 'defence' start to bare down on him. then all of a sudden, deus ex machina style, Basham arrives, and before you know it, he's tackled it into the corner and I'm dancing around my living room.

Think your doing Bash a disservice there!
B Booker was a character and did a good job for us.
Bash is a far better technical player with a versatility and athleticism 2nd to none.
Both genuine blokes who command the greatest respect.

No way was I doing Bash a disservice .Booker is a legend .There are not so many players that can be called a legend but both Bash and Booker are.Booker was adored by the fans just like Bash.OK Bash is better skill wise but his demeanour is so much like Bookers style .He is even the same build as Booker.No way would I do any of those two a disservice.Both great as far as I am concerned.

When Basham scored i couldnt stop a very loud GET IN!!!!
It was like tumbleweed blowing in the wind with the deadly silence.
I was scowled at for the rest of the match and got out quick after.
There was a music festival just up the road and spent the next 2 hours celebrating and dancing thinking we COULD now get promoted.

I walked back to the station ( via Northern Monk brewpub of course).

Overheard three Leeds fans talking. One says to others “Well its all right for you, you’ve got a girlfriend and it’s all right for you too, as you have a job. Me? All I’ve got is Leeds United”.

Summed the day and season up so well. Best tasting pint of the year in The Whitelocks, it really was.
