CONFIRMED Lee Evans on his way to the Blades?

I also don't understand why we'd sign Evans, when we have Fleck, Leonard, Lundstram and Whiteman to cover 2 positions, with Coutts to return. It would only make sense if Fleck was leaving. If Wilder wanted extra cover (and there's Bash and Slater as well), surely he'd get someone in on loan?

I think it’s because Wilder probably doesn’t want cover there, he wants genuine competition, as he does in all areas of the team. These positions are central to how we play, and the absence of Coutts and Fleck has highlighted that all to see. We might not be making the first team stronger in this window, but the squad I suspect will end up much stronger.

Leonard isn't being brought in to play midfield, he is seen as the right sided centre half/right wing back. From a very good source.

Evans is for the midfield role, and another one will be joining on loan.

Yes I have also heard this, going to be LWB cover when Lafferty goes, and the 3rd choice keeper

We’ve been depleted in midfield, been resorting to Lafferty, Basham and Carruthers. We can’t afford to do that.

Signing 2 makes perfect sense if there’s budget left over to strengthen other areas too.

I think CW is playing smart here, Fleck and Coutts are the central pairing but Coutts, is out with a long term injury, might take a while to get back up to speed, Fleck, depending on where we finish might get admiring glances from above.

Getting good quality midfielders in now gives them time to gel, provide great competition and the ability to rotate at will, I think the CM department is arguably the most important on the pitch.

Very exciting times, I think this talk of not having a pot to piss in was all smoke and mirrors so we didn't get pants pulled firmly down in the market.

I'm confused.

Why should we buy a 25 year old who has been his club's player of the season in CM for the last two years and then play him in another position? That makes absolutely no sense.

I also don't understand why Evans, a player who has probably been frustrated by his opportunities in the Wolves first team, would then sign to sit on our bench.

And how do we have 750k to spunk on a bench warmer?

I can only assume it was a play to twist Ron's arm with Leonard.

Coutts 29
Fleck 26
Leonard 25
Lundstram 23

It's not like our midfield is old.
So assuming we sign Evans you think we have too many midfielders ?.Can't agree and Wilder the voice that matters doasant agree either

So, who plays next to Fleck? The lad not happy with being in the Wolves reserves, The guy our manager has being pursuing since summer or the guy currently doing a pretty good job there?

Not only do we need competition in midfield we also need cover for injuries, suspensions and also the need to sometimes rest players due to fatigue. We play a very high tempo game to close down the opposition quite apart from attacking play and we need to be able to “rest” some players, particularly midfield players at certain times. This recruitment should help that too.

It should also be noted that this now famous system we have won't be appropriate for every game , forevermore. We need options for different teams, and different situations, so trying to figure out where certain players are going to fit in, is to ignore the need for flexibility. It's 17 man game these days.

Im not saying he'll never cover in another position, and i think his versatility is a good thing.

I was arguing that he's been purchased to play CM, not CB like the poster initially implied.
The person that comes from has open access to Wilder, and was quite clear that Wilder sees Leonard as a defender/wing back.

I see no reason why it wouldn't be true.

Just going on from what I was told in person from a well placed source at the club, no reason to tell fibs. He was pretty a

Im not doubting your sincerity, i just find it hard to believe:
We already have two good options at RWB, and no abundance of CMs, added to the fact that Leonard has shown his best form for Southend at CM.

Not saying it's impossible, just can't personally see the logic.

Wasn't he a left back at Plymouth ?

I refer you back to Wilder who's opinion is the one that matters. We have some massive games coming up ! injuries and suspension s will kick in we will need the extra quality these players bring to the team

If Wilder plays Leonard at RWB he will fail at SUFC.
The wing backs are very important to us
Be nice to see someone with a good dig on them as well as the ability to create and defend

Wouldn't surprise me if RCB was his best position long term. He has all the attributes to play there and it can cover up technical deficiencies, especially when stepping up a league like he will be.

I’m sorry but there’s as much chance of me playing wing back as Leonard.
If Baldock gets injured before Freeman is back fit Leonard will be the one to cover that position. Clearly he's made a name for himself as a centre-mid but he has all the attributes to play RWB effectively. Leonard seems to me like an extremely athletic version of Basham.

He is being brought in to play central midfield. You haven’t got a very good source. So is Evans. You are allowed more than one player for each position.

Some reet numpties on this thread. Some of you want us to cover Fleck, Lundstram and Duffy with :-
1 Whiteman, who can’t get in the Donny starting lineup.
2. Carruthers, who’s crap.
3. Slater who’s hardly played any 1st team games.

Thank god none of you are our manager.

Fleck doesn’t have to play. He has to earn his shirt like everyone else. Jonny Lundstram is two-footed. Many teams have two right footers in central midfield.

Whiteman will be sold. Maybe Carruthers too.

If you look at how comfortable and effective Basham has been in that position it wouldn't surprise me if Leonard was equally as good there. He's quicker than Basham too which is a bonus.

Looks like CW wants more depth of choice for midfield together with stronger, more powerful players. Would imagine Carruthers, Whiteman and Reed will eventually leave for good. Squad building continues well. Look at how much it has improved in only a year and a half.

Absolutely. It really is as simple as that. Tufty doesn’t think in rigid tramlines, unlike some fans...

Just like to say that I'm two footed but as was often said during my footballing career, "just use the left one for standing on son".

More Atheletic than Bash?
I don’t believe there is such a thing, nobody runs more or works harder than Bash
