It was Robertson's. And your point is misplaced. Allow casual racism in football because they're rich and you teach kids it's ok. But as you pointed out, bullying and verbal abuse is perfectly ok for kids anyway.

I am not saying SUFC were anything special in the 80's. It happened at every ground. Racial abuse of black players was routine.

At the time I was heavily involved in left wing politics/anti-racist activity. I also had a season ticket at the Lane between 1982 and 1988. It got to the stage that I would hope the opposition did not have a black player in their team because that monkey chanting would be guaranteed if they did.

We also did not have a black player between 1982 and 1987, which I don't think helped.

Its like Nick Clegg who doesnt even like fucking football getting involved and decrying the lack of black managers ,its not racist ,its because none are proven and results count ,if the right person comes along and takes Utd to the premier league we wont mind what colour ,race or even sex they are.
If they are making a race issue of managers ,how many white English managers are there in the premiership ,Im guessing at a couple ,and that is for the same reason ,they dont get enough points.

You misunderstood what I was getting at. The point I was making was that as United had no black players between 1982-1987, it made it easier for the supporters to racially abuse opposition black players as United had no players who might feel the abuse applied to them.

The line from the football authorities in in the 80's was that if you ignored the racism it would go away and if you drew attention to it by condemning it, it would only encourage the racists.
