Leaving cups out of it is this season a write-off?

I don't recall anyone saying at the beginning of the season that the cups were any kind of priority - everyone seemed to be saying getting out of this league is the priority and the test for Clough's team and management. The cups are a diverting sideshow and a bit of a money earner but they should not be a smokescreen for the reality that, in league terms, the team and tactics are nowhere near good enough for automatic and is seemingly going to struggle to make the play-offs. Yet another transfer window is ticking by and seem to make little progress. All a bit depressing sadly.

Yeah without the leauge cup success, this season is certainly looking like a write off, we are out of the automatic promotion race and even reaching the playoffs is looking slightly bleak on current form. Clough did well last season to change us from relegation certs to nearly playoff contenders, so we all know he has the ability to get a team winning. Just a very frustrating couple of months we have had and we need to get over it asap.
