In the second half against WBA Darren Moore tactically defeated us. He employed two people very wide on each side. Baldock and Stephens we’re constantly caught in no mans land, not knowing whether to push onto the fullback or stick with the winger. Frank must have seen this and today in the first half tried the same tactic But It didn’t work because clearly the management team have sorted a solution and you could see the players communicating to overcome this. Basically Baldock and Stevens push onto the full backs and either Basham or O ‘Connell took the winger. Tactic completely nullified. Derby then tried to revert to playing through Huddlestone but between Billy, Duffy and McGoldrick they shut off that route. In the end they ended up hoofing it and ironically that lead to us responding by a much longer ball game in the second half or at least getting the ball forward much quicker. Billy was immense holding the ball upor harrying them so they just gave it us back. A very pleasing day

Totally. The old Bill Belicheck mantra of 'do your job'. Recently it's been individual errors that have cost us goals/games/points.

Cut those out and we were always going to improve...

Interesting to see the better managers are setting W&K new challenges that they are responding to.

It looked to me like West Brom figured something out in the first half and second half backed themselves to play through our press, and it worked.

They backed themselves player for player to nullify any counter, even from inside their own half - that was pretty bold and confident, and credit to them for that.

We really didn't have an answer at the time.

I thought first half Frank Lampard's Derby County's similar tactics caused us problems but in a different way from the West Brom game; you could see how we were moving to try and cover, but we weren't getting it quite right, and they often had a totally free player in midfield, with time to pick out passes and play through balls.

They got in a few times this way, though apart from the quarter chance for Wilson never really got through to goal, but it wasn't sustainable (by us) for another 45 minutes. I thought if nothing changed FLDC were favourites, even at 1-0 down.

We were wondering if Wilder, Knill, and the players would sort it out at half time. They did

He had man marked Duffy all through the first half, leaving him very little space to do anything.
Soon as Duffy got half a yard on him early in the second and Huddleston couldn't keep up, their midfield fell apart, and that opened the gates, from that point we battered them, Duffy was key today, even if you missed it, watch it back, you'll see Huddleston trying to take Duffy out and bossing him for 40mins first half, and for 15mins in the second, and then, their midfield goes to pot.

Agree, I was saying halfway through the 1st half how Duffy was being marked out of the game.
Norwood wasn’t getting much of the ball either. Derby had clearlydone their home work.

Another issue which actually helped us in that Derby played this nice patient passing style.
Hardly any direct balls giving our defence time to organise.
Also Derby were (like we’ve been in the past) guilty of over passing trying to create the perfect goal.
