The game has given cause for optimism. We usually crash out in the first round so to win both fixtures perhaps indicates a bit more strength in depth than before.

Exactly that! After all the doom and gloom, tantrums and meltdowns it was nice to see the players looking like they care and that all the shit that's been flying around didn't get them to throw the towel in like too many of our fan base appears to have done.

Our situation is far from perfect and we're in a mess but the attitude shown by everyone involved in that game had my spirits lifted.
