Easy win that one...because we made it easy. With a side that would have taken a lot of criticism, or at least the manager would had we lost, we looked solid and on another night we'd have run away with that.

Cons

Their goal

Eight Blades players close to the kid with the ball, who was shite by the way but we somehow let him inside unchallenged with a clear view of goal and he curled a simple shot in. Very poor defending.
Rothwell
Blows out of his arse after 30 minutes and despite having a few decent touches he looks very much a bit part player and we need more than that. In a slow paced game like that, seeing how tired he looked was a bit of a shock.
Louie Marsh
Sorry kid, just not up to it. I hear Harrogate Town are looking for players.
Campbell
lazy player with a crap attitude who offers fuck all. Should car share with Louie on his way to Harrogate.
Cannon
Missed a few good chances and for a striker he should be putting more of them away.

Pros
Cannon

Took his goal well, lovely control before blamming the second chance over the bar and hit the post after a deflection.
The defence
Thought we made easy work of things with Baptiste looking solid enough and RND having a good game.
Phillips
Upped the pace ever so slightly when he came on but that was enough to get us back in control. Subtle but game changing as Blackburn couldn't handle the change of gear.
Overall performance
Made a potentially tricky tie look very easy. We battled, we controlled the game and bar for a team minute spell when they scored we looked streets ahead of them.

Well done tonight, happy with that.

At least be constructive in your criticism. Campbell slammed pigs twice and deserves more respect, and Marsh is still a lad trying to make it, very harsh. If you don’t think they’re good enough fair play but just a bizarre way of putting it on a night we’ve won a game 🤣

Unfair to say their goal was a simple shit. Was a beautiful goal

No, you were right, it was a simple shit 😁

Seriously though, if you give a professional footballer that angle, time and space it really is just a case of curling it in to the far post.

Cannon and Brewster scored against the filth and it hasn't stopped them getting pelters ever since. Marsh has had chances and not taken them, if you think he looks like a Championship player I beg to differ.

Bizarre to come on and cherry pick a couple of negatives from a predominantly positive post 👯👯👯👯

Oh and I thought Donovan looked lively. Once he realises he doesn't have to prove himself every time he gets the ball and releases it a bit quicker, he can be a hell of an asset!

He'll be reyt after a good pre-season.

MoM for me. Did rally well. Beat players, tracked back, crossed dangerous balls in scored, was a persistent threat.

Agree with MM.

Davies was pretty much untested and left grasping fresh air for their goal. RND for me is done at the club and needs to go and play in the lower leagues to get more out of his game. Against a faster winger he's going to be left flapping like a carrier bag in the wind. Baptiste had a decent outing and McGunness is now showing details why we should actually hang onto him rather than ditch (like we did with Stearman, for example) Doherty was steady and I feel better than Seriki who still can't seem to thread a basic pass to feet. Rothwell screams 'Dog and Duck' 2nd division Sheffield and Hallamshire Sunday League and Jairo looked well off the pace and structure of the game. Arblaster wasn't much of an upgrade but that all changed when Philips eventually emerged and took charge of the midfield from deep allowing Arblaster to push on. Donovan is a real live wire and not at all scared to go round defenders and mix it up and deserved his goal, and Marsh is, as you say, not good enough for us and needs moving on. When COH came on we had far more bite but the game needed the frankly useless Campbell and slightly less useless (for a change) Cannon to be hooked and someone to put the ball in the net. Campbell missed a sitter and Cannon just isn't deadly enough or strong enough to challenge for balls put forward despite his goal. We produced a lot more tonight and first half were by far the better team but they came at us after half time and we coughed up a preventable goal, even if it was a worldy.

O'Hare, Donovan, Philips and McGuinness were the difference tonight.

Their goal was 0.03 xG, meaning 3% of shots from that location go in.

I thought Rothwell was our best player first half, I assume he'll start on Saturday with Peck.

Pros: Rothwell, RND, Cannon, Marsh (did well considering he was out of position) , Donovan, Arblaster, Phillips, Baptiste, Cannon, Doherty.

Negatives: Should've scored more. Seriki's knock/injury

The League Cup showed its enduring value as it allowed us to get valuable minutes in players legs in a competitive game. Campbell, Rothwell, Doherty, Baptiste, RND will all benefit from that. I thought we were very tidy on the ball throughout. Delighted for Cannon who I thought was very good after his goal. Hopefully that was the confidence boost he needed. Delighted with the attitude of the players.
