League 2: Would you go?

The only thing I will add on this thread is that I hope they don't ask us to decide in April to renew at last seasons prices. The prices should be held at this seasons prices all summer.

Whether we stay up or not I think this season will have tipped more than a few thousand over the edge not to renew next season.

I set a pole up.....

Like this? :D

Or this?

Bladesway, Where have I said we should sack the manager? I set a pole up to see if people thought we should if we went down. I voted no as it happens.

And what is ridiculous about asking the club to reward season ticket holders in this way, Blackpool did it in the Premier League FFS! And we have an owner who's family are worth Billions.

A lot of your posting is knee jerk reactionary stuff. You were wading in early doors on Weir. As for free season tickets, are you for real? You compare Blackpool doing it in a promotion season when they have just inherited all the gold they can eat, to us going into the lowest tier of English football. All on the assumption our owners family are worth a few bob. I'd love to see it but in the real world where money talks (see a lot of Bulletnuts stuff about money and corruption etc) it aint happening. Moreover it isn't realistic to expect it to.

Now you are talking a more realistic idea.

Well I hope they enjoy playing in front of about 8000 then, less than half the current season ticket holders are likely to renew.

And I was right about Weir an all. And it's not an assumption the Saudi Royal family is worth Billions.

Why, I don't think we played in front of that few in 81/82 at home. Weir, was the wrong man in the wrong place at the wrong time but I bet you wanted Wilson sacked before and Blackwell etc etc etc. Change for the sake of change? I have said elsewhere, the manager isn't the issue.

My mum and dad are worth a few bob but until they snuff it I don't stand to see a penny. You get my drift?

Why do you keep throwing the sacking of the manager at me? I haven't call for Clough to be sacked even when we are relegated, I think he should be given the chance to rebuild. In fact I posted when he took over that whatever happens this one is far the long haul.

Different case with Weir, he wasn't and will never be a first team manager.

I never called for Wilson's sacking when I used to post on bladesmad and it was argument over that very issue and my comments about a poster who had it in for Wilson from day one, which got me (unfairly) red carded on there.

As far as the season ticket issue, this idea is for once something the club could do FOR US! Instead of shitting on us from the great height which they have done for the last half decade. I believe it's affordable to the current owners and should serve as a statement of intent for next season.

I would still go.

When I could finally afford to start going to away games at 16, I said that my aim was to see United in a competitive game at all 92 league grounds. I never thought that it would be possible to do, but if we do go down I'll have a realistic chance of doing it before I turn 27 (Only Brighton's new one left in the top 3 divisions).

When is this downward spiral going to stop? As JohnDenver said, to end up in this situation without administration or points deductions is just remarkable.

And when I say remarkable, I mean utterly heartbreaking.

.

Yer might get 24 Conference grounds in before yer 30 :(

I don't go to many anyway. PL or fourth division, I am a Sheff United supporter. I would never support any other club. Even if (heaven forfend) they went lower, I would still support the Blades.

We have the business of avoiding relegation to tackle. Think we'd better watch what happens and how Cluff will pull the rabbit out of the top hat, given all his players are shit.

pommpey

Yes, I'd still go. I'm 60 this week and have stuck with 'em so far so what's to change. Throughout the decades you live in hope and that's the only deception. You have to accept that supporting the Blades you're extremely unlikely to see anything successful. My local gym in Barnsley is choc full of Man Utd fans some of whom go to matches the majority who don't, they may just as well have "tosser" stamped on their foreheads.

UTB

Happy birthday fella and I hope they give you a passage through to the next round of the FA Cup and, more importantly, 3 points on Satdi!
I'm 64 in June and like you I'll stick with them and hope for a repeat of the last time we were in Div 4

I'd continue to go regardless of division, it's not about divisions, opponents, individual players, managers, owners or any of that, it's about supporting Sheffield United.

The only guaranteed "positive" to relegation would be getting in all but 1 of the current 9 grounds I'm missing in (assuming they stayed in that league) :)

I can't see why relegation is a reason to stop going, once you've started supporting a team you're stuck with them.

As for free season tickets, I would guess that season ticket sales are the biggest portion of our turnover, so under SCMP we'd end up with the lowest wage budget in the league.

I think I would go, but it'd take something convincing to make me renew my ST...

Division 4? Been there before mate, but this time it's different. The game's morally corrupt now, it's all about the money. The fans are nowt but a bunch of twats for daring to expect better, the players have no connection to the club bar from their pay packets, and the aspiration is what? To get to the Premier league? Fuck me, how sad. Not that it's going to matter to us for a good few years but watching MOTD and seeing the diving and cheating that goes on there makes me wonder why we bother anyway.

That paragraph could have been written by me because it echoes how I feel about the current game.

I won't be going if we're in League 2 next season. I'm not going now because of my views on the game as it is today, and I can't see that changing in the next 12 months.
I have never been so detatched from footballers in all my years of watching it.
I have been watching the Blades since 1981 so I know what shit quality football is! That's not the issue. I cannot justify sitting there week in, week out when my heart's not in it anymore.

We played Carlisle the season before last and coming out of the ground I asked my Brother "What, as a football club are we trying to achieve here? What would we consider to be a successful outcome to this season?"
He answered "Promotion"
I said "And as a supporter should I not be willing them to succeed?"
He said "yes"
I said "Well, I don't. I have no interest in watching my Football club who I have supported all my life involved in the Championship or Premiership where the type of behaviour we have seen displayed by their No.14 today is rife. If this is happening this low down the league then the game is fucked." (Carlisle No. 14 was a perma-tanned, quiff-donning, luminous boot wearing, tattoo- riddled wanker who back-flipped and rolled over every time one of our players even looked at him). "I'm sorry, I just can't go anymore". I've not renewed.

It is heart-breaking because I have spent most of my life as a fanatical Blade supporter and loved the highs and the lows but like someone who has fallen out of love with their childhood sweetheart we are living separately at the minute.
I hope it's only a trial separation but something drastic is going to have to happen within the game to make me change my mind.
I'm still a Blade, and like that childhood sweetheart I still take an interest in their welfare so I can't stop myself from checking how they're going on etc. and would love them to succeed. However, the main reason I want them to succeed is because of you guys, the fans, it obviously still means a lot to a lot of people and I'd love them to experience that buzz.

keep the faith bro'.. one day the cycle will come round and Man utd will be in division one and we will be at the top of the premiership. whether i live to see it though...;)

I would go and I would re-new my season ticket. I probably don't know any of those fans that were at Craven Cottage last night. But I feel connected to them. While ever they keep going and the Blades continue to play at BDTBL then I will go. Simple as. If either of those conditions alter then I would reconsider.

I salute all those Blades there last night. You were awesome. We might look for leaders on the pitch but we don't need to look far for leaders on the terraces. You all summed up the term 'twelveth man.' Best fans in the world.
