Just listened to it, I think it's the new guy macarthy? who asked the questions, I must say old Chris didn't take to kindley when asked about lunners:eek: UTB.

Anyone care to post any more details of said interview?

Can see both sides of this. Respect Chris for shielding his player, but at the same time it wasn't an unreasonable question and certainly not 'disrespectful'.
Thought Chris could have handled it a bit better tbh.

Wilder behaved as I'd expect him to. Eventually, whether Lunny has a future here or not, all will be revealed, so the journalist has had his card marked and no doubt Wilder will give him short shrift if it happens again.
Whatever CW's thoughts about the future aren't all our players now here until the next transfer window?

Chris, some twats on a forum blame John Lundstram for the defeat on Saturday. Your thoughts?

Dead man Stare......

Especially as it's a criticism of your team selection although some don't have the balls to say that........

Well .. What's your name, sorry.......

Thought the guy who did the interview did quite a good job. It's a problem for Lundstram,he just happens to be the squad player that occasionally fills one of the most important positions in the team, unfortunately, this just highlights his shortcomings. At least we know that Chris almost certainly reads the comments on this forum and that it won't influence his opinion, which is exactly as it should be,it is when all said and done an opinion from a passionate fan !!

I think McCarthy was more refererring to the calls he has taken on FH this last week. Quite a few slagging the player off, with others quite rightly defending him. Chris brought up social media which suggests he has seen some of the more unpleasent stuff posted. I do think some of the criticism after the first 2 games has left a sour taste with him as well, which is understandable.

Perhaps McCarthy could have phrased the question better, and simply asked Chris how he thought Lunny had done, as he did with Johnson?

Saying he's shit, a national league player or a traffic cone isn't a valid opinion.

As you say, he's a makeshift, we aren't going to get someone of Coutts or Flecks class to sit on the bench until one of them is out, despite the claims of some. We couldn't afford it even if they did sign, listening to some of our players valuations on here.

Reality is a foreign country to some.

Doesn't mean to say people cannot have an opinion.

You'd think so.....but what lay behind the journalist's question was what irritated Wilder (I think). You don't need to ask the most obvious questions to realise that Lundstram is probably never going to convince that segment of the supporters who are only happy when they have something to complain about. Personally I think we need an upgrade on Lunners. Give the fella credit, he tries, won't shirk a tackle, and just occasionally does something exceptionally well, but for all the effort he brings it's never going to be enough. The higher we go the more expectations rise, and he doesn't convince me that he has it within his locker to offer any more than we've already seen. A Premiership United will probably see just a few of the existing squad compete on a regular basis, but that's a question best left until we manage to get over the Premiership line.

The single most pressing question is our need for one or two attacking players to give us that edge we currently lack. We have the midfield, our defence looks quite solid (I'm not suggesting that it wouldn't improve with the addition of another quality player), and our 'keeper is quality (I realise he's currently on loan).

Foxy , this is a United forum. Common sense on here? It gets more like BladesMad every day err.... Reasoned debate settled in shopping mall car parks, err.....

The pigs are always saying that Wilder constantly goes on about FFP like a broken record. I'm beginning to see that. Yes it's shit and teams should be punished but, you've said your peace mate. Move on.

I think he just answers the questions honestly mate. If the interviewer asks his view he gives it. I certainly wouldn’t want him to stop because it upsets the poor little mites over at S6 whose owner “appears” to have been finding ways to get round FFP for some time. While clearly I’m not in a position to know for certain if that is the case I can only hope that all the clubs who flout it eventually get called to book and get appropriate punishments for it.

One man's not singling out Lundstram is another man's singling out John Fleck

Thought it was a fair question tbh, all he had to do was agree that a lot of players divide opinion and move on.

Wilder brought it up before being asked:

5m 35s...

Q. What do you make of their start to the season?

A. We could've won our game v Bristol City and they could easily have won the last 4... Blah blah blah.... Then, before the interviewer asks anything further, Wilder says "I suppose the question you might ask me is does the transfer embargo, you know, i don't think it even affects them"... blah blah blah.. go right through the team, they have invested heavily in this team.

Q. You mentioned the transfer embargo, but they did sign someone whilst under embargo..

Then Wilder goes further and slags the FA and EFL off which is fair enough.

Fair enough I heard it differently but you’re right. My point remains that we can only hope the EFL eventually enforces it’s own rules.

Wilder clearly feels that teams like ours are a victim of our peers not respecting FFP rules. He probably thinks that if enough clubs like ours shout loud enough for long enough then there’s a chance the governing bodies may eventually enforce their own laws, which would subsequently benefit Sheffield United.... I have no problem with Wilder doing anything to further the club’s interests.

If Wednesday (a club who have also got away with breaking FFP rules) fans don’t like it, I really don’t care and I’m surprised you do.

As for the Lundstram issue, I also thought he should have done better with the Lundstram question. He didn’t take the opportunity to praise him, or to justify his selection, he simply got annoyed and clammed up. Fair play to the new local journalist for asking that question. We have a thread on here related to our dreadful win / loss ratio with Lundstram starting, the negative trend is becoming difficult to ignore.

Ahhhhh ….. sorry mate that's not going to happen !!

Its not fair on the fans you know to punish clubs for breaking the rules ……:eek::eek:o_O;)

Done properly it's the job of the media to represent/stand in for the public. At least it used to be in the good old days. The new bloke isn't asking his questions, he was asking what he judged to be the fans' questions.

It's not the journalist who is being disrespectful to Wilder, it's those who are having a go at Lundstram.

RS: Can I ask you about John Lundstram, he's a player who seems to divide opinion.

CW: Do you know what...do you know regarding supporters and everybody will have their opinion on every player...I'm not going to single out any player and talk about a player dividing opinion...I think that is really disrespectful to myself...You know social media and stuff like that really does annoy me...I play him in the first team to play games of football John's a young player, 24, making his way in the division so I've got really nothing to say on that.

That response is not aimed at the interviewer.

Monday while I was out in the car I caught the new man at RS being told Lundstram and Matius (swfc) were both not good enough by fans of the respective teams, his response to the callers, 'what's wrong with him?' And none of the callers came up with a decent arguement. Lundstram's problem was 'he's not as good as Fleck'. I suspect when he gets his feet under the table some of these callers may get a bit more short shrift but for now he was letting it go. (Matius was 'lucky to get a shirt'!)

Got to be honest, I find Wilder very touchy and overly defensive in his interviews a lot of the time. Doesn't come across all that well.

Hates any remotely uneasy questions does our Chrisseh.
