Just putting points and finishing positions to one side for the moment , aren't Lane Nights Under the Lights a significant factor in your love affair with the Blades ?
All the way back to Cardiff City in 1971 when I was 12.
And in more recent times , the reason why the Triple Assault in 02/03 is more memorable than the Promotion Season of 05/06.
Of course , that could be the dementia , but I tend to think it's the Cup runs & the Play-Off Semi (H) , not because the were more important than getting to the Prem - they weren't - but because there's no feeling like glory under the lights.
And that's when you've got to remember that the thing to cherish is those little periods of glory.
The ones you think of when you look at Lincoln City in the Cup this year.
I've had 7 promotions in my 49 years of following the Blades. One every 7 years on average.
No supporter of another Club can tell me that they've got more (in one season) out of their allegiance than what I've had in those seasons of feel-good achievement.
I've also had the terrible heartbreaking disappointments. But they just serve to heighten the enjoyment of success , especially when you know that you're amongst the most loyal & knowledgable fans.
And when I say knowledgeable , I mean we know life in all 4 divisions.
Leave long-term building to the men in suits.
Would I trade that Triple Assault season (despite the ultimate tragedy) for one extra season struggling in the Prem ? Never.
Would I trade a lifetime of ups and downs with my Blades for a continuous 50 year period in the Prem , fretting that I would never be in the top six , or never in Europe , or finishing 15th instead of 14th ? Never.
So back to tonight under the lights.
Just enjoy.
It could be another 7 years ! But somehow , I think Messrs Wilder & Knill won't be waiting that long.

My first game, Blades V Charlton under the floodlights, walking up onto the John Street Terrace for the first time..

When Wilder talks about feeling something special happening, he's including these kind of nights. I can't bloody wait!

Absolutely. Bramall Lane under the lights is my football heaven.

Great night that Cardiff game, still miss the proper big floodlights though, they looked spectacular coming down from Norfolk Park on a match night and being up high, they didn't shine straight into the ol mince pies like they do now from the john st stand...

Home draw with Leyton Orient, a lovely 0-0 in front of 16,540, i bet you could almost hear the echo of the players shouting on that cold night.

Night games at this time of the season (and the start of the season) are magic, seeing the sun set over Sheffield early in in the game.

I have seen all the floodlight matches mentioned on this thread ! my first match was 1956 but my first floodlight match was 1958 ... such a different place now of course , but the sheer magic of a night match with your Dad and the Red n White stripes , back then we even had heavy Fog in the equation !! . My memory is of being memorized by the random lights caused by the fag ends lighting up in the dark ....reminiscent of today's modern tree lights ??....memories !! ... Will we do a usual Blade thing tonight ??....it has to change sometime ...... doesn't it ???.

Remember beating man utd with bradders and Deano scoring that was pretty special
The Leeds cup game when jags scored
The arsenal game when name scored and jags went in goal
