True but the women’s game is already receiving massive support.
The BBC are constantly using positive discrimination and have massively promoted it for years. They are constantly trying to make women’s football fashionable but there doesn’t seem to be any real demand......it’s probably on a par with Sheffield FC and Hallam FC in the non league.

Agree we should try to help but how long should a parent club financially support a women’s club?
I reckon most football clubs will continuously support their women’s teams but only on a low budget....don’t think theres going to be any big investment.
Ideally there should be investment but we live in a financial world and i don't think women’s football will ever bring in much income.

Not sure if this has ever been suggested (probably has somewhere) but, you know when you go to a music gig and there's almost always a warm up act. Why don't they do that with women's football? Bring the women's team to the Lane, ticket holders get in early watch the women's game and then the MAIN EVENT! Or have it after the men's game? I wouldn't mind that, keeps me out of the house longer
Obviously it wouldn't happen at every home fixture as it probably wouldn't be logistically possible to do all the time. But it's one for the future maybe?

They’ve got no right to voice their opinion or ask for an explanation. They’re employees of the club and, as such, should do as the club says. You don’t see Men’s teams demanding explanations when their gaffer gets the boot.

If you work for a club in the public eye and a decision is made above you, don’t kick off and bring the club into disrepute by behaving in an embarrassing manner, you shut up and know your place and do what you’re told. And if you don’t like the decision you can fuck off out of here. Man or woman it makes no difference.

I'd worry in the winter months, the toll it would take on the pitches up and down the country wouldn't be ideal. But certainly summer through to October I think it's a great idea. Probably better after rather than before.

Yes I would be kicking off, but as a supporter, not as a player who is required to represent the club they work for with dignity and integrity, not like a 6 year old who’s had their favourite toy taken away.

Who’s suggesting Wilder runs the club? The club is run by Prince Musa’ad and Stephen Bettis, who do an excellent job of it and deserve total trust and respect with any decision that is made, and should not be undermined by their own employees.

The players are entitled to some explanation as to what's happening to their team. If they haven't had one then that's a big concern. All they've done is ask for a meeting to discuss their concerns. That's exactly how employer/employee relations are supposed to work.

And all the article says they've asked for is a meeting with senior officials and to talk to the person who'd normally handle their concerns. Describing that as acting "like a 6 year old who’s had their favourite toy taken away" is a tiny bit hyperbolic, isn't it? One idea that I think someone told me some rugby clubs do is play the women's game before the men's. So for those who get to the ground early, there'd be a game on to watch. In my ideal world I do that as well as make drinking legal in the stands.

This would surely cut costs and if the facilities were open would bring in a few quid (I know United contract it out or whatever but it's an option). It appears they've introduced something new and are demanding people like it rather than allowing it to grow. I'm sure the men's game didn't pick up popularity instantly so why should the women's game.

I know plenty of people who get to the ground early now for parking and if you aren't a drinker or with a family then the pub's not for everyone so you'd imagine it'd get a lot more in to watch games than they currently have. I imagine there's some complications to work through like whether they'd charge to get in early and whatever that I haven't thought about but when I heard it it sounded like a good idea. They've done well for ratings during the Olympics and international cups, and lots of teams have done well with promotions, this seems like a way that would get them the regular viewers they need.

I don't think the fact that suddenly ladies teams are attached to men's teams helps. I realise it's an attempt to fast track popularity but it means most of these teams don't have their own personality.

Women do use lighter balls in tennis.

Aren't womens tennis matches normally shorter than mens? 3 sets rather than 5 for men? The courts/equipment are the same, but the length of the matches are shorter

I think the issues facing the women’s game will come to a head sooner or later....it feels like it’s at a cross road.
Ive heard it said by some women that they wish to break away from the FA and either join the mens premier league or become totally financially independent.
The PL have recently announced that’s it’s not the right time to bring the women‘s league under their umbrella.
The problem is that even with massive promotion and advertising theres currently little money in the women’s game, average gates in the top flight are 1000 to 1500 when they charge £10. They’ve tried numerous free ticket promotions when a crowd will rise to over 30,000 but the next match when there’s a charge the attendance is back down to 1,000 again,

Basically the women’s game is a charity and needs continuous financial help from the parent club. If there are financial issues due to covid19 then tough decisions need to be made and the finance people would probably say it’s logical to cut expenditure in the women’s side.

I think it would help if the top two leagues were shown on free to air tv. It may not bring much direct income, but it would help to generate a bigger audience over time. It’s a smaller step for someone to watch on tv and get an interest before moving to watch a live game than getting someone to start attending games directly.

I think one of them is free to view but on the FA website. Probably the women's Prem, so they could just pipe that down the telly tubes, don't see why a Freeview channel wouldn't go for it, fills a good few hours, good press, would get more viewers than a 10 year old rerun of some antiques program.

Agree. United didn't need to get involved just to put the United name on a women's team. Sheffield FC's women were doing ok a few years ago. Pigs have a team as well some way god knows how far down the pyramid. Not many watch women's football why does Sheffield need to try and have three teams?? If United wanted to get more involved couldn't we have got involved with Club and let them use some of our facilities and resources rather than putting it into a new team for the sake of calling it Sheffield United?

If United women got to the top division you'd still have pig fans who like women's football having no interest in watching cos it was United. Should have tried to progress Sheffield FC up the divisions then anyone around Sheffield who was interested could support them.

I think the free runs on telly is a great way for it to grow. I would watch if they're not on at the same time as we are. I assume others would too, and they could earn money of ads. Then you could have the womens club run separate, with 100% of the income they generate going to them. And the income the male side generate can go straight into improving the mens side.

All that has been said was that she wanted "a new challenge". If she had left in the summer, that would make sense, but why she would leave when we still have a shot at promotion is beyond my understanding. I think there is much we are not privy to.

The women's side has been hit by the takeover under McCabe they had a ground in Sheffield that was due to get upgrades to a decent level but now they are over in chesterfield playing infront of friends and family.

Well meaning but it's never going to make the Prince any cash so why is he going to pay much attention to it?

Both clubs should get behind one ladies team. Play in red and blue stripes. At a neutral venue in the city. Both clubs encourage their fans to support it. There's a market there. It just needs to grow organically. There are lots of girls who play football. I'm sure they'd want to support a city team. They bring parents etc along with them and anyone else who is interested. You're not going to get 20,000 regular fans for a new team. Unless they do really well.

No ladies team in England will get 20,000 regular fans, new or not. The odd big crowds this season for the top ladies teams, on the back of very cheap tickets, were followed by crowds of a couple of thousand. I don’t know what the top ladies teams average but I expect it is non-league men’s level.
