Kyle Walker in England squad

Brilliant news for the lad, let's hope he starts or takes some part in the action. Highlights just what a shocking decision it was to sell him in the first place.

Seems to be a lot of United connections with some of the recent England squads - ex-United players Jags, Cahill and now Walker, and Blades fans Kevin Davies played for the national team last year.

I said at the time it was no problem selling Naughton because everybody could see Walker really was the real deal. Typical Blades, we throw the baby out with the bath water for a few shillings. Oh well Mr McCabe, over to you, any more bright footballing decisions coming from you?

Well done Kyle, well deserved. You are too good for a club like ours.

Awesome news, the lad deserves all the good things that will come his way.

I think it's brilliant that he's in the England squad but we sold a virtually untried-but-talented kid for an awful lot of money. It was a shame, but at the time it seemed reasonable business and we knew that if he lived up to expectation then we wouldn't keep him for long anyway. I'm sorry he left but that doesn't mean that it was the wrong thing to do. When we're established in the Premiership we won't have to sell players like him. Until that happens I don't think we've got much choice.

just shows our youth system works.
and tbh if he had stayed, no matter how well he played is anyone delusional enough to believe he woulda got in england squad?
i think not.

Congratulations to Kyle! Well deserved and shows just how well our academy has actually done. I look forward to seeing him pull on the England shirt.

I'm sure it'll give the current crop of lads something to aim for and show them how far they could come

I suppose it will always be used as a stick to beat McCabe, but he has also seen that academy is the future of our club since the Kyles left by bringing in the likes of Pembo. Even if we end up selling them, we can certainly produce them!

Walker is also in the U21 squad, presumably that position will now be filled by someone else

Well done SUFC for getting a good fee for a un-proved player.

OK cream will mostly raise to the top but if he'd stayed and got sucked into the current situation does anyone seriously think he have been where he is now or we would have got £4M this Jan?

It was a good deal for ALL concerned including my Country.

A lot better deal than any c**t who voted for Clegg.

At the time I thought it was a disgraceful football decision and I still think it is now. We sold Naughton for £7m for financial reasons (fair enough), but to sell his ready made replacement as part of the same deal was a short sighted decision by an unambitous board and chairman that will eventually sow it's own rewards when we get relegated. You have to get the balance right between football and finance, and for my money that deal was totally unbalanced.

Had we kept Walker and not cashed in on Kilgallon last season we would probably have made the play-offs, then who knows we could have won them. Alright on past performances we'd have blown it but continually selling your best players leads in only one direction and that is down.

It was all Blackwell's fault remember!

The great irony is that the club knew Walker was the better prospect and still chucked him away for nowt.
I don't think anyone doubts we would have sold him the following year if we hadn't gone up but to sell him when we did was idiotic.
Another year of Walker may have got us in the play-offs and would certainly have helped season ticket sales.
It would have raised more transfer money from a more experienced player who was obviously destined for higher things.
As was said at the time, the way that transfer was handled signalled everything about the management of our club and killed the soul.
Watching the way we conceded goals yesterday underlines we have no heart and that stems from the absence of leadership or even any real care and attention from the top.
The way we sold the Kyles isn't the only reason but it set the tone right there and then.
Great news that a kid from Sharrow, our very own manor, is in the England squad.
Very sad that we couldn't wait to sell him.

Steady on Lenny, it has taken McCabe 10 years to build this team
