I suppose, if we are going to be paying fees for two or three prized players, this would be one where the risks would be minimal.
Yeah, he's 29. But as a centre-half (who's played consistently well at this level for a few years now), he's got plenty of years left in him. (Witness Gareth McAuley's excellent performance as a 36 year-old yesterday.) And no question at all about him having the best interests of the club at heart. He'd provide leadership, a bit of devilment, and strongly contribute to forming that bond between club and fans.
A no-brainer really if MK could somehow be persuaded to let go (& if the club are willing to swallow a reasonably hefty fee). He'd almost certainly be very, very good value.
Wouldn't half provide a fillip in this uncertain pre-season & send out a message that we really do mean business.
