Yes, yes, he has the football flaw of not being British or Irish but if we're looking to bring someone in on loan at LWB he would seem like a good option.

He's the lad who signed for Birmingham which triggered their transfer embargo (so possibly can't play for them). Cost them £1.5 million and can play left back or on the left wing (so presumably may be able to play LWB. Would presume, if they can't play him, they'd be looking to loan him out.

Not at all likely to happen seen as though CW has said he’s not after a LWB, and, we’ve got 3 players in that position already.

He's stated that we'll be loaning out Norrington-Davies. I assume we're waiting to bring someone in before we do that.

And bringing another in would take us back to 3

So, you see Daniel Lafferty as being able to play every game at LWB (and cover at LCB) if Enda was to get a long-term injury?

Said this on another thread I don't think CW no longer sees Laffrety as a LWB, think hes here to cover JOC, and thats why hes still here.

It doesn’t really matter whether I can see that or not, Wilder has kep him at the club for a reason. We don’t need 3 LWB’s.

I don’t see why the situation is any different to last season where Lafferty was considered adequate back-up. We can’t upgrade every single role in the squad, and strengthening our back-up LWB isn’t a priority when we still need to bring in at least one striker.

Wasn't Nathan Thomas used as cover as well last year?

There are enough LWBs available and we'll regret it if we don't sign one.

If he was, it must have been an absolute emergency when Lafferty was LCB, perhaps a league cup game. It’s clear from the Bleacher documentary that he only intended two members of the squad playing there. Indeed, wasn’t Thomas made available for loan after preseason only to turn the move down?

I think it was only an early cup game but he was ahead of Lafferty for it. I think it was probably a test to try and get him to work harder!

actually, the board above if quite a good way of seeing how we stack up. If you work on the premise a player can only cover one position.

GB..KF........CB..RL.........JE....RS........JO..DL....ES...?

If Norrington-Davies doesn't go out on loan, then that's LWB covered. Although, I think it would be better all round if he did.

Holmes and Lavery are both likely to go out on loan as well I would think.

So, we're short 1 x LWB, AMC and CF

We have several players who can cover more than one position and can play one up top if needed. I do think we're a bit light in terms of depth were we to pick up a few injuries. I guess it's difficult having a squad small enough to keep everyone happy but large enough to cover all eventualities.

JW is JOC’s back-up now we have JE/RS as the middle options (he played there in the Ipswich game). So Lafferty will be primarily available as the back-up LWB.

Currently plays for Heracles in Holland and is scoring goals for fun. 5 in 6 and wouldn't cost much. 23yrs old and swedish. Used to be on Liverpool's books as a youngster.

Me And Bobby McGee is widely regarded as a great song, I think it’s overrated, he’d need to do better for us.

Busted flat on bramall lane, waiting for a train, and I's feelin' all jaded and fatigued, Tufty thumbed the promotion train down, just before it rained, it rode us all the way to the premier league :)

Mentioned already but I'll give him a thread with the links to left sided defenders non existent.

Birmingham.
Danish.
LB / LWB / LCB.
24 years old.
6 foot 2.
Cost estimate £3-5m.
Strong, aggressive defender. Good physically, gets up and down well and reasonable on the ball. Long throw.
Covers the defensive left side perfectly and likely to increase in value - especially if he starts playing LCB.

We have no cover for O'Connell or Stevens, but as they're so established and considering other required recruitment, for me it's only viable to cover them both with one player.

I also think it's more important that Stevens' competition is a good defender first and foremost. See Marvin Johnson's cameos. And we have Freeman for the left side threat.

Pedersen would cost more than is ideal for this area but he's the best option I can see for it. Ticks every box but 'British'....

Good shout but would prefer Ben Osborn for similar money who would fill the Lwb/Lcm role

That’s a lot of money to us for a back up

I know. But it would cover 2 positions that need covering, guarantee our left side strength and be an important signing. Also a good investment.

I guess our willingness to spend there would depend on what it costs for the other defenders. Use a loan there or pick up a RCB for <£3m and we might consider it. I'm assuming we won't spend a great deal on central midfield.

Sign Osborn though and we'd still need cover for JOC.

And with Freeman (and possibly Morrison) arriving there's less of a need for a LCM.

He'd seem like an unnecessary extra signing rather than instead of anybody else.
