Just got back from the game tonight. My ST is at the back of the Kop. I've just spent nearly 2 hours surrounded by a bunch of teenage chavs. They spend half of the game chatting to each other or on their phones and the other half shouting expletives. Incapable of stringing a sentence together without using the f word at least 5 times. I despair. I am literally speechless at the number of uneducated chavs I encountered tonight. They wouldn't know a Shakespeare sonnet if they tripped over one. God help this great country of ours!

What do you expect on the Kop? It's not the opera.

Maybe we should have readings of Shakespeare at half time to educate the young uns...

Can't beat a good owd Shakespeare sonnet at the back of the kop pal. 'Alas poor Yorath I knew him well.'

Quite a loaded post but it's struck something with me so happy to debate.

I'll try and deduct from the term "chavs" it's a bunch of young lads who probably wear attire from JD Sports, secretly vape and spend more time on their phones than watching the match. Already confirmed some "industrial language" as our Sky Sports commentators like to say.

What you're describing is something I think this "great country of ours" needs to do more of. Get kids off the street and into sport, whether from a spectator point of view or participation. I'm not going to pretend I know the group or observed the group you're talking about, I didn't. However, they've clearly purchased their ticket legally, contributed to the club we all love and hopefully got some enjoyment out of the match or at least got some enjoyment out the evening with their mates. I've been to a few matches recently where I've had plenty of young'ns around me and sometimes wondered if they're here to support the team or just because it's something to do, but really, either way, it's good they're there and not loitering on some street corner with fuck all to hold dear except weed or Andrew Tate TikTok videos.

Bramall Lane should be a very safe, lively, supportive and interactive place for people to enjoy the company of friends and football, that should include young lads, old boys, families and you, Chris the Blade. I'm sorry to hear that tonight you were probably left feeling a bit uncomfortable and bothered by those around you, and I do mean that. I do feel there's currently a bit of a divide in the stands as I found out a few months ago when I told the ref to "fuck off" and a couple of older gentlemen in front turned round with a bit of a frown about my language. It's something, I reckon, is quite hard to manage and I doubt their generation, my generation or the younger generation really know how to work out - and a reason I don't have much of a suggestion for you in how to avoid this at your next visit. The kop is obviously the cheapest ticket and at this time of year likely the only seats most can afford. One of the stewards might be open to you moving to a different area after half an hour or so if a different seat is available with your reasonings, could be an option in the future and something to try. The line-up (due to illness), result and performance likely didn't help but no-one should spend £40 odd quid to feel unsafe and uncomfortable at a blades match so hopefully if it does happen again, the stewards might be able to accommodate a move, even a few rows down, to an empty alternative seat.

I am going to hazard a guess that the people that the OP describes are the same people that were causing the Kop overcrowding a few years back

If you don't want to be surrounded by 'chavs' like that, move your seat. You're on the back of the kop for crying out loud.

The cheek of you complaining about people being uneducated, then moaning about the people you're sat next to at the back of the kop. Rich indeed 🤣

What do you expect, they sound like a younger version of our manager and his mates. Thats the culture the club want to create apparently.

Fair points made , suppose the difference is that whilst back in the day we were obnoxious at football matches and still can be admittedly , us old uns turned it off when back at school , college or on public transport.

Some of these today dont have those boundaries , for some its just how they are .

Well, from my vantage point in the far more erudite BL corner. May I direct you to very sparsely populated standing areas further across the kop towards the south stand…You can enjoy the ambiance of several empty seats.

Thanks for your response. I just struggle with young chaps who have spent 11yrs in the education system and then can't string two words together without swearing. It beggars belief. Not sure whether that's a parental issue, down to the school or just a society that's very slowly becoming more and more uneducated. It didn't particularly spoil my evening. I was shocked than anything else especially when a lot of them spent virtually the whole of the first half with their backs to the pitch chatting with their mates. No wonder the atmosphere is flat a lot of the time. I think next year i'll move to the South Stand. A little bit more refined maybe!

Get yourself over to South Stand block A mate, we have re-enactments of Alan Ayckbourn’s most famous plays at half time…..proper entertainment.
