10 fold increase in prize money above league one will be around 10 per cent of the wage increases
Dunno but seem to remember 7 years past reading int stir that our income from prize money dropped from £2m to £250,000, but I'm mad as a box of frogs when it comes to memory

Amazing people are willing to write off 40 odd games last season on the back of 4 this season. 2 of which we have kept clean sheets in, and one of which hes been back to his best.

Especially when our only possible replacement atm is in the process of being sold!

My point is that Freeman has been one of our poorest players this season, so far. I agree on the Baldock front but genuinely believe Brayford would be starting ahead of him if no falling out. Whether that's right or wrong.

He'd had a good game yesterday.

Imagining the dispair and frustration of some on here if their boss said 'you're easily replaceable' after 4 weeks into a new, more challenging job.

If this is even true/Freeman wants to play PL football, so be it. As long as CW thinks we have cover and we get our money's worth. The latter is my concern.

I very much doubt he is "easily replaceable". I haven't seen Baldock play, and neither have 99% of our supporters so no-one knows if he would replace Freeman in what Freeman can and does do..

He was very impressive in the MK Dons away game and was their only dangerman. Very quick, quicker than Freeman and better dribbling ability. Read loads of comments about him on the MK Dons forum and the general theme was

Baldock is really talented, very quick and a bit of a flash Harry with a few tricks and flicks, in some matches he's stood out as being a real threat and danger man going forward HOWEVER a few have said he's great going forward but often struggles at defending because he gets caught out of position when tracking back (sounds a bit like Kyle Walker syndrome). Some weren't sorry to see him leave and preferred a vanilla reliable full back.

It would appear that playing Baldock in a 3-5-2 formation would suit his strengths as long as he's not up against a good team where's he having to spend too much of the game defending.

Baldock was excellent at the Lane last year. Wilder spoke about him in his post-match interview.

Freeman was MUCH better on Saturday after a mediocre start to the season.

BUT, I'm looking forward to Baldock getting a chance too and I'm definitely of a view that a Freeman/Lolley swap would work (in addition to a bit of cash).

How much lolly were you thinking of for Freeman?

We need the nucleus of last season's squad to keep the winning mentality... look how Duffy and Fleck still seem to be the best midfield link so far in the Championship. Freeman should stay, as I'm sure Brayford is on the way out, which leaves him and Baldock as RB cover.

I would say let him go then, seriously. We've got cover with Baldock and of course Basham can play there if needs be. We could certainly do with younger, faster, strike options. I like Freeman but he's not pulled many trees up in these first few games and he's entirely replaceable in my opinion.
Think this is a bit harsh on Freeman tbh - obviously he's not going to be able to charge forward and all-out attack like he did last season against both better defences and a better attack which means he can't neglect defending as much and leave the back three - Bash in particular - exposed. He's got a good engine, can get up and down the field all day, and is probably one of our quicker players in case we need a bit of pace. Away from home, especially against the "bigger" teams, he might be a decent shout for the right-wing position in a 4-5-1, with either Basham or Baldock behind him (Stevens on the left with Lafferty behind him on the other side).

Depends on fee.

Selling to a club outside PL would be looking at circa £1m.

Cos it's a PL club allegedly interested, we should be looking for no less than £3m, at which point, Wilder may decide he can utilise these funds on strengthening the squad.

I've always maintained Baldock will ultimately nail down this position in any event. Just not sure how close he is to being available for selection after injury.

Not surprised in the interest in Freeman. Good player who would be a loss. But sometimes you have to take a view on these things. The bigger picture.

UTB
Agree. If this is a real "offer", then we shouldn't be letting any of our rivals in the Championship (and in this statement, "rivals" means anyone in the same league) get him for buttons. If it's a PL club, let them pay the going rate for players and hold out for some money we can actually reinvest - the "bigger picture".

End of the day, it comes down to Wilder. I doubt that he'll be too keen to let him go, but if he does, i want him to extract maximum value from it.

Let's not sell him. We've been here before with other players amidst a flurry of posts like, GLTTL and 'let's cash in whilst we can' and very few have rarely resulted in improved circumstances. I'm thinking, Murphy, Quinn, Tonge etc.

He's not started the season too well, but was much better on Saturday. Added to that, we have no other current RB. Brayford is leaving and if he stays, is likely to spend the season yearning for daddy Clough. Baldock is injured and we are still unsure how he will fit in and gel.

4 games in?, as I have said before, He didn't come good until Gillingham away last season, and then it was like the floodgates opening, Freeman was only just behind Billy in the "player most likely to score" stakes.

Agreed . It's a lot about confidence in this League aswell . Have another look at all of our players after 10 games in and I believe we'll see a fundamental difference in them all . 10 games in and they'll have answered a lot of questions they all will have had about themselves and the step up into the championship. The difference WILL be positive .

What have I missed here? Few comments on here as if Freeman has become an overnight liability.

He's acquitted himself as well as the rest of the squad in what will be a learning curve.

Even Billy needs some adjustment. He managed 7 touches in the entire 1st half at Boro.

No point to sell Freeman unless it's eye-watering money and includes a player for the 1st XI.

Otherwise Wilder has less time to fill more slots in the team, unless multiple deals are imminent.

Freeman is also affordable. What is Jenkinson on at Brum?

Okay...

A) I don't think we should get rid, I think he's adjusting and looks steady at this level (although Saturday shouldn't be a yard stick - Barnsley looked like every team we played last year, they're lg1).

B) it doesn't really matter what we think about it, if we get a decent bid (3mill) we'll sell.

C) We'll sell, not because we lack ambition, or McCabe but because it would be a decent deal for all and don't think we should/ could stand in his way... and it's like that and that's the way it is.

I don't think we should view them as League 1. They beat Forest last week who currently sit on 9 points and beat middlesbrough over the weekend.

That's the beauty of this league, everyeone can beat everyone on their day. We should have thumped Barnsley 3/4-0 and sent a bit of a message out that Bramall Lane this year will be a tough place to come.

I know what you're saying... but they were poor. Really poor.

I 'hope' it's because we made them look poor, and the return of the holy trinity made us tick again.

...not convinced tho yet.

That said I do agree that this league looks like it will be mental. I genuinely think that come Christmas... they'll literally be 12-14 teams who think they're in with a realistic chance of promotion. Possibly even auto.

Agree,

The fact that Forest, Ipswich, Preston are all up there is a surprise. Many had Ipswich to go down.

I've said all along, Bolton, Millwall and Burton/Ipswich will go down.

Can't see this happening if Brayford is going - but then again if the money is above a certain lowish amount I'm sure our board will be tempted.
