Has in been noticable to anyone else we don't seem to be shipping any goals from the right hand side of defence any more, as the opposition are no longer taking advantage of the freedom to attack at will down the left?

It's probably more to do with Baxter or JCR not playing in front of the RB.

Freeman had a good start to the season and whilst Brayford is better than him I still felt he did a good job and has a role to play. The midfield is doing a lot more defensive work which is making us harder to break down.

If you're the opposition trying to find our weaknesses, I'd imagine most will be thinking it'd make more sense to attack down the side which doesn't feature a Championship right back.

Sticking four lumps across midfield also helps too.

Freeman was weak defensively..ok going forwards...he was ripped a new one against Southend last month and hasn't featured much since...

All this analysis of systems ,formations ,players and tactics is a waste of energy

This division is wank
If you are prepared to do your job roll your sleeves up and work hard you will do ok

The reason we have had an upturn of form is because we have been doing this and even with some of the liabilities we have through the team the lack of pace dodgy keepers and so on if we make it as hard for other teams as they have been for us we will win more than we lose

Been saying it for years we have too many players who turn up when they want and personally id rather have players who put a shift in than players who lets be honest arent really good enough to leave the hard work and effort to everyone else
Especially when youve got 4 or 5 of em

Our teams since warnock left remind me of the kind of sides i loved to see us playing against under basset and warnock

They just didnt fancy it and if you could make it hard for them early in in the game they would just give up and the fans would pick up on that and turn on them
Dont see bellends like holloway mention things like that though do you ?

He decided we werent
For the sake of his daughters he went to ....
Im gonna say northampton

"Freeman will be off to Burton, he's not good enough for Blades." What a stupid statement that may turn out to be.

Kind of stating the obvious that the position occupied by our best player by a distance (and one of the division's best players) is not being targeted as a weakness by the opposition. Now we have Brayford and Edgar back, the right side of our defence looks considerably stronger than it did. Collins and McEveley are less convincing on the other side. None of that makes Freeman a terrible defender. He’s young, decent on the ball and probably a slightly above average league 1 full back who can play both sides. That makes him an ideal squad player. I want a first eleven full of Brayfords (Championship quality with great attitudes) and a bench full of Freeman’s (young, versatile, technically sound players who are already decent league 1 standard and could get better). That’s the ideal scenario for me. Brayford being better is not a good reason to have a go at Freeman for me. Plus, as others have said, he can also do a job on the wing if the need arises.

That sounds bad whichever way you view it :)

While there is a shred of truth in this, what you are saying is Brian The Blade AKA Barney is right? We just need to be organised and run around a lot? I think that the reason we have had an upturn in form is partially as you say it, partially we have had a bit of luck (Scunthorpe missing a sitter at the end of the game on Saturday helped), we have a more solid backline since Brayford and Edgar came back, Hammond appears to have at least got his arse in gear and Billy has started scoring again.

Thought his goal on Saturday was one of the reasons he is better than almost anything else in this division. Instinctive.

I dont know if barney is right i dont read his posts but it has long been my belief that if you put the effort in you will win more in this poor poor league than you lose which in this league will take you somewhere round the top 6

If youve got players who can score and create while doing this then great although my view on billy is that he scores in spurts and is not very effective when he isnt scoring

I don't believe they aren't trying. You can argue they could try harder and in essence you are right the effort should give you a better chance of winning. Since Ched left and Blackman was sold we have had scoring issues, I think this season if we have made any progress we are scoring more goals. The back 4 appear to be doing better and the midfield is at least competitive now, although some will moan having the new Monty in Hammond isn't the answer. You can't call 2 games form in reality but there is certainly the start of something with the last 2 wins. Tie in the last minute robbery at Barnsley and perhaps we are finally moving in the right direction. Let's be honest we have been sliding backwards for so long progress appears to be what other people do.

While I would agree with your summary about Billy's scoring habits I would have to disagree about his all round contribution; I have been actually been very surprised and impressed at his hold up play (especially given that he is not exactly a target man) and his work-rate this season. His goals record is also very good considering the lack of clear-cut chances we create during games (although I have seen him miss some sitters this season).

Freeman is one of the few who I think have been good this season and I feel he has been a little unlucky to lose his place, I'd personally prefer Brayford at center-back instead of Collins to accommodate Freeman at full back.

17 posts about Freeman and the defence - and apart from the last one, we almost made it through the lot without someone calling for Collins's head.

Well done folks - it must be the Christmas spirit...............ho, ho, ho
