I’m not going in on Moore here, and I’m not necessarily going in on Wilder, who clearly expected at least one more forward through the door at the end of the window, and who has been hamstrung accordingly (wherever responsibility lies for that).

But.

We sign McBurnie, then spend years not playing to his established strengths, trying to remake him into a different sort of forward. He never really adjusts, underperforms overall, and we’re short of goals.

Is there a pattern here?

As has been said by a few on here we are not playing to his strengths
Hes always scored goals and scored quite a few for Ipswich on loan in this division last season to help them over the line to promotion. Im sure hes pretty frustrated the way things have gone this season

Sorry I apologise for not reading all the thread, but what are his strengths we are not playing to ?

From what I’ve read, mainly, and from bits and pieces I’ve seen, his best goal-scoring game in the past has been when receiving balls in the box, banged in from the flanks. Old school number 9 play. Though I could be wrong.

Burrows and Hamer, among others, are cracking crossers of a ball.

Currently, he’s harum sacrum all over the front line, on his own, flank to flank, and nowhere near his best position for 85 of every 90 minutes.

I don’t know whether it was because he had a strike partner (Campbell) alongside him v Stoke yesterday, or just that I am not observant, but I was impressed by the number of runs that he made when our midfielders or defenders had the ball. This meant that defenders were constantly being dragged out of position, and our forward running players had space to run into. Was this different yesterday, or have I just not noticed it before? (I sit on the Kop, and it was in the 2nd half that I became aware of it.)

That observation could be levied at several players over the years to be fair mate.We are arguably very adept at it.
Bizarre as Wilder has often mentioned square pegs in square holes, but counters it with odd choices at times.🤔

What an entitled bunch of wankers our fans have become shame as the only time the club ever does anything is with them behind the team

To my eyes he made plenty of decent runs yesterday which were not picked out by the teammate in possession , something which I've not noticed so much before.
But yet again we didn't get early crosses in at the first opportunity and so often then stalled and lost possession.
I find myself screaming "cross it" - when you've got a 6'5" CF , there is no point wasting opportunities to get it in the box where defences get panicked and anything can happen.
We are not Man City so no point trying to play like them

I agree that early crosses are frustratingly rare. What I picked up on yesterday was his diagonal runs between the half-way line and penalty area in the second half. I don’t think there was a single attempt to pass to him, but we were able to pass to other players in the space he created. Strangely, the first time I remember seeing this was v Liverpool in 2006, which was our first game back in the PL after promotion; kicking towards the Kop in the first half, Liverpool had Craig Bellamy constantly making diagonal runs forward, and he must have done it 20 times before he actually received a pass. It made me realise that our defenders were in for a tough season. Apart from the fact that they are Welsh, I can think of no other similarities between Moore and Bellamy…

Nearly 5 weeks now, hardly a word mentioned from the club, back on the grass ? Warming Rhians treatment table ? Sniper has reemerged

Wilder literally said this week that he might be involved today but if not definitely at Millwall midweek..... Not sure what more you want them to say

Didn’t hear him ,that’s good news hopefully. Heard that one before though.

Hopefully Campbell will do an hour and then on Moore.
Reverse that on Saturday

Missed a penalty and everyone hates him again.

Against Blackburn he was better than Messi.

Cardiff he was better than Messi.

Missed a penalty against Sunderland worst player again.

It's not just the penalty miss for me, it's his overall attitude and laziness. A few times lastnight he was just stood on the spot watching the play go past him with no or little effort to help out. At the one point he did track back he just jogged at the side of the Sunderland player and the stopped, no effort whatsoever to put a challenge in or even make it awkward for the player to play the ball.
Each time the ball comes to him he can't get hold of it, can't lay a simple 2 yard pass to a team mate and WTF was that lastnight ? Playing keepy uppies in the middle of the pitch then aimlessly giving the ball away.
If he has to play, then limit it to a sub and give some fucker else a chance who can actually move.
Rusting Dalek was mentioned in Shoutbox by someone lastnight which on reflection is actually insulting to the Daleks......Exterminate......Exterminate

I don’t understand what CW sees in Moore taking penalties?

All 3 he’s hit this season have been poor imo.

He’s missed two and scored one, but even the one he scored the keeper (if I remember correctly) got something on it

He hits them low giving the keeper a chance and does not appear to make a good connection on the ball

For me, a pen taker has to be someone who can make a good connection and hit the ball cleanly

I’m not saying it should be Hamer or Burrows, but someone who can strike a ball

That’s my whinge out the way

I've defended him a lot. I still would to an extent because I don't think he should be playing well much as he is ..

However, if he slips Burrows in against West Brom we probably score and take the points.
If he buries his penalty tonight, it changes the complexion of the game.

They're big moments and he's coming up short.
I like Moore and I think he has a lot to offer as part of the squad, but he's not somebody a team going for automatic promotion can rely on to come up with the performances and goals every week.

We desperately need some different options and different types of forward if we're to keep the pace.

The problem with Moore isn't his performances per se; it's the fact that his poor performances and chronic lack of mobility are causing us no end of problems in attack. We don't have the athleticism behind him (O'Hare will run for days but he's not quick; Hamer is neither quick nor athletic) to utilise his strength.

We really, really need Campbell back fit. Using Moore as the disruptive option off the bench is about as much as he's good for.

He's not played well yesterday and hasn't played well a few times this season. However, he needs competition and rotating to get the best out of him. Playing 90 minutes of every match is probably a bit to much for him but we've no alternative at the minute.

Hopefully with BBD and another such as Jacobson coming in and the return of Campbell we'll be very different up top in a week or two.

In his defence

He was signed as a back-up/second fiddle to another striker (which fell through).

He's had to play far more minutes than expected all season because of injuries.

He can't charge around for 90 minutes but knows he has to last the whole game and keep doing it every 3 games.

He looks shattered, both body and mind. Tiredness leads to mistakes and bad/slow decision making.

If he had someone to share the luas you'll see a much better player.

I reckon that if we offered Ipswich a decent amount then they would recall back Kieffer Moore and sell him to us.

When we played against him in the friendly he won everything in the air, strong as an ox and just caused us problems

Scored 10 in 14 for the millers so far

Offload Hanson and get big Kieffer in
I’m sorry guys
