Kemp To Sheffield United?

25th September 2006

Apparently, according to one Sunday newspaper, Sheffield United are interested in signing Lincoln City's defender Tom Kemp when the transfer window reopens in January.

Presently the rumour is unconfirmed but Kemp is highly-rated by Lincoln City. Currently, he is enjoying a loan spell at Conference club Tamworth where - after a shaky start - he has established himself a first team regular alongside former Imp Simon Weaver.

First year professional Kemp is a product of two youth academies, so Lincoln City FC cannot actually claim all the credit for his development. He began his training at Derby County but felt that his chances would be limited by Derby's highly-rated Tom Huddlestone. With that in mind, all parties agreed a deal whereby Kemp joined Lincoln City's youth academy.

Once again, this story is unconfirmed and might prove nothing more than newspaper gossip. Please click the links to view cheap merchandise for Derby County, Lincoln City or Sheffield United football club.

God knows who this bloke is but it shows how much ambition we have that we are chasing players from the likes of Lincoln.

Players have to start somewhere. All the good ones don't start off at top clubs.

Yea they do have to start somewhere just when the transfer re opens. We need to be looking for quality. Not just another average football league player to add to the collection.

If you don't know him how do you know he isn't quality??

A lot said the same about Hulse and Nade who have aguably been 2 of our best players.

Jimmy Bullard was at Peterborough, was an average player, and look at him now :)

He's laid out on a hospital operating table or will be soon!

;) ;) ;)

lack of ambition if jimmy bullard did come from peterborough we need to sign proven players to keep us up not some kid with potential

My god, if that is the type of players we are after then we are doomed.

maybe i'm just stupid, but how does being linked with a highly rated youngster mean we have a lack of ambition?

How many times have you seen this one play?

We'll be looking at/after a massive amount of players, this one may be completely false anyway!

We should just buy the Chelsea squad and a few from Arsenal and Manchester Utd.....

Easy......

:D :D :D

We will be linked to dozens before the window and beyond.

I still don't know how some people can judge all these players......they must go to a lot of matches.

CKR was judged and I thought he had a decent game against a top team on Saturday or does that not count??

Yea but sharpy he has potential so surely he is worth going after.

How do you judge a "quality" player then and what does "proven" mean??

Nothing wrong with adding young potential to any squad.

Arsenal are masters at it.

I judge quality on players that are consistant and have prem experience coz thats what we need. Players that will improve the squad not players that are pretty much the same as what we have. Also we have enough youngsters as it is anyway.

And how exactly do you judge a player who you have never heard of, never mind seen?

Do you not like the sound of his name?, after all, that's pretty much all you know about the bloke!

Let's not forget a certain Brian Deane came from Donny Rovers in 1988, from the low leagues, helped us up into the Premiership, forged a strong striker partnership with Tony Agana and got 15 goals in the first Premiership season in 1992 before L**ds scum came along.

Ah looks like another name to add to the youth system dosnt look like he has even made the 1st team at lincoln. Would explain why he is a t Tamworth on loan. Only played 8 games for them so far.

is there any reason you've ignored ALL of my questions? :)

Why does being linked in the press with a player you know absolutely nothing about show a lack of ambition?

Well it is really we should be adding to the 1st team at the moment rather than the youth system.

We cant add anyone contracted at all until january. It's simply a paper rumour.

Considering this is a "lack of ambition" what should we do then? only watch the top european teams? completely ignore anyone lower than us because they immediately aren't good enough?

I'd love us to be being linked with the top players in the world, but the truth is, at present this is just a rumour. Any bigger targets we are after are far less likely to "come out" in the press purely for the reason that they are bigger targets!

What really annoys me is people writing players off with only actually knowing their name and position! In some cases not even that.

A prime example is someone(who shall remain nameless) who MSN'd me on deadline day saying that Warnock should be immediately sacked for signing the "f**cking complete waste of space useless target man Kazim-Richards". This person MSN'd me whilst I was at work today (despite only listening to the match on the radio) moaning about the rest of the team and saying that CKR was outstanding, denying all knowledge of said MSN conversation.

True it is just a rumour and if he was to sign i very much doubt he would get near the 1st team. Just i think we should be looking for 1st teamers not youth players at the moment. Never actually said he was crap just a signing we dont really need.

I understand what you are trying to say and everyone wants us to buy good quality but many people thought Nade and CKR were ones for the future and not what we needed now.

In reality, when they have played they have been better than what we have at times.

CKR was close to being our best player Saturday against some of the best in the world.

Thats the point, CKR and Nade are NOT the type of players we need right now, we need and needed proven quality with players such as Koumas, Kavanagh etc not youngsters who are prone to make mistakes and be inconsistent.

Neil just hasnt brought in good enough players and doesnt have the tactical knowledge to compete at this level. That is why sadly, we will be relegated with him in charge.

If Koumas and Kavanagh are proven at this level......can you show me proof?.....why are they not at this level now? Plus i thought you didn't like the oldies??

How many said we wouldn't get promoted with Warnock in charge??

Did you?
