With howard out for a month all weve got is george long. fine heard he did well on saturday but what if he gets injured. Or much more likely sent off. Young keeper making a rash decision is very likley.
So do you think wilson should get a emergency loan in or should he keep faith with george

Wilson has already said he will enter the loan market for another keeper maybe as cover if he trusts Long

I'd applaud Wilson if he picked Long and put George Willis (the country's best 18 year old goalkeeper) on the bench.

I'd join that applause after I'd picked myself off the floor, having collapsed with shock. It'd be good but I can't see it happening.

Why not?

This is the right time to blood the kid please don't bring in a stiff on loan.

We now Long has the ability and how many times will Willis be called on so DW forget any loanees

That would take humungous balls from Wilson, and there'll be plenty who think it foolish. It should be Long's shirt, but is willis ready to be our number one, if long gets injured?

As good as Willis is for that age, not yet. For me, they're both too young as keepers to be first choice.

I'm happy to see Long play on a temporary basis but I just think it's too much pressure on a keeper who doesn't turn 19 for another 4 weeks.

Peter Shilton made his debut for Leicester at 16 established at 18 taking playing in Div1

Long is ready now

Peter Shilton didn't play in this era. Football is vastly different these days.

No Shilts played in an era when Keepers caught the ball when a cross came over and didn't flap and if Long makes half the keeper Shilts was he'll do.

I know the game has changed somewhat Daz but in the stone age Hodgy didn't do too bad as a young'un

It's a great chance to make them a little more ready.

Joe Hart was on the bench at Shrewsbury at 15 and made his debut a day after his 17th birthday. I'm pretty sure that playing first team football at a young age was good for his development.

Long did well on sat, but he also did well in his first appearance last season against MK Dons.......then we played one of the division's weaker teams at home and shipped 4. Deja vu anyone?

Now is certainly not the time to experiment. If we don't go up this time, we're fucked - crowds will decline, we'll flog owt that's not nailed down, and next season Portsmouth will be a force. And don't forget the Massive. :D

That's true, but Shilton is one of the best keepers that the country has ever seen. It's the same with Joe Hart, he was excellent for Shrewsbury from such a young age. The difference is, you watched him and you could tell he was something special. When I saw him in the game he had against us in the League Cup before he moved to Man City, he was absolutely brilliant and you could tell he had the potential to play at the top. I have a similar feeling about Willis, he may not turn out to be as good as Hart is, but there's something about him that says he can go as far as he wants in the game.

Long is good, I'm just not certain he's ready yet from what I've seen over the last two or three years. Fingers crossed he proves me wrong because I'd love to have another lad from the academy do great things for us.

Getting a keeper in on loan frankly depends on whether DW intends Long to be given a run. I suspect he will let Long continue, in which case you have to question whether a keeper in on loan is necessary given that:

a) the loanee won't be likely to play, and
b) given a), we'd be unlikely to get anyone who isn't 3rd choice or worse from a Prem/Championship team. No 2nd choice keeper is going to want to be 2nd choice at a lower league.

I'd be inclined to give Long a go, and then if he has a disastrous game reassess. We should be able to get someone in at fairly short notice if we can offer them first team football. But if the intention is to give Long a chance like last season, we may as well have Willis on the bench.

Tom MacAllister was a good young 'un as well.

A fair few out of work keepers have put their names forward by all accounts. Question is though if they are any good why are they out of work?

Just on the subject of keepers, Willis has been included in the England U18 squad to face Italy on 24th October at Field Mill.

What does that mean?

I'd argue that modern day managers are under more pressure these days, due to the inflated amounts of money involved in the game. I think that's why they get the sack more often. A modern day manager is more likely to borrow an experienced goalkeeper than blood a child.

And then to a lesser extent, what Highbury said. It's possibly more intense an experience these days. I bet SHilton didn't have "Foxes World" and internet forums scrutinizing his every movement.
