Well he certainly hasn't got worse. Last season was his best goals per game return in league football and he's played a lot of games in the Championship in the last few years.

Not saying he wouldn't do OK, but not wholly convinced he's what we need. I've seen him quite a few times over the years, think there players better suited to our needs out there.

Well he can't be aware of the fact he's already helped someone get promoted to the Championship then - Huddersfield in 2011/12.

You don't score the amount he did for Chesterfield without being capable of helping another team get promoted from the same division.

It does depend who's playing with him, if he was the main striker in a team going for promotion I wouldn't be fully confident, but if someone like Ajose's alongside him then I would be, especially as Novak's the sort of provider who'll ensure Ajose continues to score at a good rate.

Chesterfield need Novak to boost their chances of avoiding relegation while we need players to boost our chances of promotion. Big difference!

Holmes would've improved us. None of our players can do what he did for Northampton last season.

Ajose would've improved us. We lack a pacey striker.

Tafazolli would've improved us. He's a centre back and we don't have another one whatsoever to compare him with.

Chesterfield need Novak to boost their chances of avoiding relegation while we need players to boost our chances of promotion. Big difference!

A player who scores goals for a relegation threatened team in L1, against L1 opposition, will score goals for a promotion chasing side in L1, against L1 opposition. Those goals count for the same for both teams - points. They only want the points for different reasons. Being good enough to be the main man or start every game are different things, it depends on how he's used, it depends on the rest of the team.

Charlton need players to get them up too... they signed Novak.

Let's not pretned he wouldn't be a useful player for any team in this league just because we haven't got him.

There are doubts about Holmes and Ajose, especially Ajose for me. Novak's the only one who I think really guarantees anything - he's been a reliable performer wherever he's been. He has to be reliable though because he's hardly spectacular.

Ajose's had one good goalscoring season. And that was at Swindon, a club where attacking players always seem to excel. He's moved to a big club before (Leeds) and not done much. Charlton are another big club. Swindon's fans also didn't seem massively impressed by him last season, I think they said he was quite selfish and just a goal poacher more than anything. Strikers do often find their scoring boots in their mid 20s though so it wouldn't surprise me if he kept it up.

Holmes has had more than one good season, but has only had one outstanding season. And all of those were in League Two. But given the age he is now and the level of his performance last season, I don't think it should be a problem for him to produce similar performances in League One. But again, he's been at a bigger club recently (Portsmouth) and didn't do much.

I wouldn't have wanted us to spend up to £1.5m on Holmes and Ajose, no way.

I'd actually rather have Obika from Swindon, and he'd cost quite a bit less. He's one who could easily go and rattle in 20 goals next season like Ajose did. And now Ajose's no longer at Swindon, he probably will do.

Let's be honest, almost any player would improve us at the moment. But... are we sure that players who were decent last season, in league 2, are the answer. Nobody knows who the targets are or indeed if CW knew that these players were not good enough for us to be pushing for promotion. Agree with that none of them would have got me exited maybe a bit relieved regards tafazolli as we're desperate for cb's but for his reported wages not worth it. It's all about opinions and everyone has their own but not really bothered about any of the 4 or revell for that matter. Obika is a good shout too

My concern with Tafazolli is only that Peterborough have a good record of signing lower league players who step up, often to a higher level than L1. And I don't get the impression their owner likes to waste money.
Maybe we've dodged a bullet, who knows, but maybe we've missed out on a player good enough to help get us up. Only time will tell. I hope the three CHs we sign are all better than him.

And isn't that why people are nervous? We can't be totally confident until we've seen who we get for these key positions. I'm afraid I don't do blind faith.

Agree Bush regards posh and their recruitment proven track record at it, but would you have signed tafazolli unproven at this level for the wages in question big gamble if you ask me. Personally I believe we have finally secured a manager who will take this club forward he's definitely no mug and I believe we will finally address the cb issue. I however will start worrying about things if our squad is not looking more balanced in the next week or three UTB
