Keenzy's Preston match report.

I didn't go to the game last night, nor did I listen to it on the radio, follow the score or pay any attention whatsoever. My mate text me saying we were 1 down and I text him back saying game over. I have not read a match report and no nothing about the game. Apathy has really set in for Ollessendro and I don't even know the team who played. However, I am going to attempt to sum it up in my match report (by saying what I predicted before hand). anyone who went to the game please correct me if I'm wrong.

Blackwelll satrted with a defensive formation. He undoubtadely played henderson, Quinn and Monty and probably played at least one player out of position. Candinates for this are Ward, Cresswell, Williamson, Stewart, Monty and/or yeates. It was probably a 4-5-1 or defensive minded 4-4-2. despite us leaking goals and our lack of plan B KB will have told the lads to keep it tight, not concede and nick a goal. We tried to defend and grind them down (as we did a lot of teams last year).

Unfortunatelty we were found out faitly early on (for the 4th time in 4 games). Blackwell hasn't learnt that he cannot base his entire ethics around defending when he has a back line of Monty/Geary, Nosworthy, Fortune/Kalio, Stewart. He hasn't learnt that losing Kilgallon, Naysmith, Walker/Naughton and Morgs means that we are now likely to ship in goals. Oh, no no. So we concede in the first half and effectively the game is over. We haven't come back from 1 nil down to win since Charlton at home in December 08. i'm guessing it was a soft goal with an element of poor defending.

One nil down and KB stands their with his hands in his pockets. It's not working at half time and he refuses to change things. I'm sure we are completely static and have no pace whatsoever. he probably kept our 2 most dangerosu players, in Ward and Camara, on the bench. With Henderson and Creswell up top (i'm guessing) we had no pace and lumpoed balls uup to them with no real joy. The midfeild lacked any skill, pace, creativity or flair with KB opting to play at least one person out of position. Hot or cold?

KB maintained his hands in pockets stance and didn't bother telling his subs to warm up during the early stages of the second half. Then the inevitable second came. Probably aother defensive mix up. Or an 'uncharacteristic' mistake by Monty. We had been poor at this point, but by playing Ward or Camara then a bit of pace might have got us back into the game. Regardless, things weren't working and Blackwell didn't change things. The 2nd goes in and it's effectiively game over.

Preston take their foot of the gas and we fluke a goal. We haven't looked like scoring all night, but out of nowhere we are potentially back in the game. We huff and puff, but nothing comes out of it. To be honest, if we played til midnight we probably wouldn't score. Preston are comfortable winners and the scoreline probably flatters United.

As I said, I wasn't there, didn't listen, haven't read a report or heard anything. Despite my general apathy, I'm intrigued to know how accurate my report is. So, people who went .... how accurate is my estimate???

Reading away this season was the last time we did this, but it is rare so the point still stands.

I didn't go either so won't comment.

My take on the game will come from reading this forum today and my lad who did go but I've not spoken with him yet.

What gets me about Beighton is his constant one line quotes along the same tune without having seen the thing for himself. If he put together a measured response like yours it would be worth reading and would add much more to the debate. It's more frustrating than watching the Blades.

You're right Rev. Thanks. I can adjust it to say that in the last season and a half (since the start of 08/09) we've only come from 1 nil down to win twice!?

FAO people who went to last nights game

Any takers on this?

I know my post is quite negative, but I am curious to know how accurate it is.

I have absolutely no stats to back myself up here BUT isn't that the norm in football these days.
So many teams now operate a "score and sit back to defend" attitude that it is increasingly a "first team to score wins" sort of game and if a team is lucky enough to get an equaliser it's a "we'd better see if we can hang on to this now" attitude.

Like I said I have no stats but just generally watching MOTD this seems to be the case.

Gentlemen.

However much we might disagree with someone's point of view, telling them to "shut the fuck up" is not the way we do things around here.

Please refrain.

In our promotion season we came from 1 nil down to win 4 times. I guess that's not loads of times, so it might not be as clear cut as I make out. Still 4 times in one season is a lot more than twice in a season and a half.

My general point is that under NW, even if we went behind you still expected that we'd get something out of the game. That never say die attitude meant that we picked up points later on. Maybe it's just me (although I think more are on the same boat) but when we go behind, I have very little confidence we'll get anything out of the game, never mind come back to win.

I appreciate the point. Once again I don't have the figures but the 02/03 season I never considered we were out of the game until the final whistle sounded.

I just think football is going very conservative and anyone taking a lead trys to hold it rather than extend it these days.

olle.. apart from hendo not being picked you just about got it spot on.. the reason for this is that you forgot one rule.. blackwell always goes for a flanker pick or not pick i.e. a totally confusing one.. one that comes out of the blue.. hendo was this games flanker (un)pick

Yep, Blackwell's surpirse was dropping Hendo and sticking the successful partnership of Evans and Creswell back up front ....... unfortunately it's about 5 games too late

I'm amazed that he actually tried to change things before it was too late. Credit to king Kev for making 2 subs before we concede the 2nd and were out of the game. Maybe he actually is learning after all???!!

Oddly this is what I have the issue with

Like clockwork he takes off Quinn and Ched After 60 mins.

Both players know that if they start they'll get 60 mins, regardless.

If they're on the bench, they'll get 30

What pissed me off was BB post was at 8.03PM, we'd only been playing just over 15 mins and we were wrote off as losers.

For your information i was chatting with a fellow Blade who predicted what Keenzy would say ........ it was a JOKE !

Nice one Linz. That's the first time I have had a laugh about anything since the play off final. Brilliant !
