Sheffield United midfielder Keith Gillespie is set to move on loan to Charlton Athletic.
Gillespie, 33, has been out of favour at Bramall Lane this season and he last month spoke of a "fall-out" with manager Kevin Blackwell.
The Northern Ireland international is hoping that the loan move to the Championship outfit could result in a permanent transfer in January.
Gillespie has won 86 international caps and played against Hungary last week.
The news will please Northern Ireland manager Nigel Worthington who has expressed concern that several of his squad are not playing regular first team football.
Gillespie has not started a game for Sheffield United this season.
Charlton are currently in the bottom three in the Championship - 18 positions below the fourth-place Blades.
The Addicks are searching for a new manager following Alan Pardew's resignation at the weekend.
Pardew's final game in charge was Saturday's 5-2 home defeat by Sheffield United.
Phil Parkinson has taken temporary charge of Charlton who face QPR on Tuesday evening.
