Tom Davies probably a better player in my opinion... but we never got to see that which is what it looks might happen here again
Phillips was a much better player when both were fit,in the time that Davies was with us,I saw him have 3/4 decent games for us,the signings /loans we have made in recent years have absolutely fleeced us,scouting is atrocious.

Fair enough. They were both 2nd yellows, not straight reds.

I don't claim to know how bad the tackles were to receive those yellows though
With us it was a straight red. Changed the game for us but at least we won. With Ipswich it was two fouls that changed the game for them. With West Ham it was two bad fouls in 3 minutes.

You would expect that if we are trying to sign Phillips and Souttar then one of our few assets is leaving to help fund it.

A strong spine of the team is essential if the club has its sights on a top 8 finish.

Cooper (back to his best)
Souttar
Phillips Jairo Blaster (back to his best)
Bamford

The issue of course as many say, is staying fit.

Peck or Burrows (or both) I guess are favs to leave, unless we’ve got lucky and this Nigel Dawn fella is investing in the club?
When Bamford is the most robust and reliable of that spine cluster there that says it all

This season is going to be one big gamble on fitness

I remain optimistic about Phillips, he looked good when he played but you could tell he wasn’t fit. If the board feel they can afford him & Wilder wants him then I don’t really get why people get so worked up about the decision

All this assumes that Souter and Phillips are coming. We don’t know that to be the case.
Let’s worry when we have something to worry about.

Yep and if it works Id like to think top 8 is nailed on. However if a couple of them breakdown and we are committed to paying their wages for the season then there are going to be some very difficult quesrions for the management team and recruitment team to answer

The signings of Phillips and Souttar could make or break Wilder, if they both get injured early on and we are screwed, this is going to come back and haunt him. What a weird transfer strategy of just signing all your old players. I've never known any other club to do it, to be honest. Potentially 4 (including Riederwald) in 1 window is baffling.

Wilder laid it on the line that he wanted experienced players. Seems he putting all his eggs in that basket in the hope that they stay fit and see us to the promised land.
No doubt hefty promotion bonuses in place

I do worry a little that Wilder might feel a bit like last chance saloon so is thinking more short term (as anyone would). Problem is, sjit or bust might be what he needs but as a club going forward I worry where we will be after this.

i think same its wilders last throw of the dice and ive a feeling it will either end in us being promoted or him being sacked before christmas hope its the former

As it is for every team - and to be fair, we're usually delighted when other Championship teams have a run of injuries

I like him,he was the backbone of a good Leeds side and an England regular, pings the ball about and changes direction of play quickly, he has spent a lot of time out of football especially the relentless championship,we will see.

im hoping if peck is sold hamer plays the attacking midfielder role not stuck out on the left and it wouldnt suprise me if we brought jack clarke in for that role

I would be gob-smacked if we signed Clarke. Can definitely see him going out on loan after they signed Maeda and Fatuwa but if he does it's got Boro written all over it for me.

Completely agree, if we’re signing him hoping he contributes to 35-45games then I think we’re choosing the wrong player. Rotational with Jairo will work well imo

I think it's clear that there's a risk v's quality v's budget triangle at play here. Unless you're Citeh, you can only ever have 2 and as our funds have dried up, CW and the recruitment team appear to favouring Option 1 - Risking Avaliabilty in favour of Quality and Costs. As budget increases, the needle moves to the middle of the triangle, if we have to tighten our belt, you HAVE to move towards the Blue and Red areas and away from the McGOLDrick areas.

Aside from all the other factors being discussed I wonder why the lad isn’t in the building already if he is coming in?

It’s not like he’s tied down anywhere…🤔

Saw nothing about his contribution during his short spell with us that would compel me to want him back. Plus, got injured. Plus, got sent off.
That's my feeling. Forget how good he was 5 years ago, based solely on his contribution to us last season I have not seen a single second of his game time that would make me want him back

Maybe some of us on here (although not “worked up”) genuinely believe that he’s now not very good and a liability discipline and injury wise.

I took particular notice when I saw him play for City albeit on television. I couldn’t see why Pep would want a midfield intimidator. He wasn’t at the races. God knows why Pep bought him.

I also saw both games where he was sent off on his loan spells. He was slow, getting shown up and as a result the niggly fouls did for him. He’d already cost West Ham 2 goals against ManU and Bournemouth and then in a crucial game for West Ham he gets shown up by Morgan Gibbs White, shoves a Forest player over and then 3 minutes later is late in on Gibbs White and “trips” him. Described by a West Ham vlogger and also Sky referee as Stupid.

Ipswich sending off for second yellow was similar to ours, he’s either meant it or he’s late with his studs up.

What I’ve also noticed from reading bits about him in the football press is that the loan teams impression was that he didn’t want to be there and wanted a move back to Leeds.

Times have changed but Wilder doesn’t seem to to have noticed. Successful teams have strong quick athletic players. You know, the sort Brooks was developing into. This mentality seems to be, Vinny Jones could feight. He played for us. Robbo could feight, but he’s gone. Need another who can feight. Stick his foot in, leave a bit on someone.

If Phillips doesn’t get injured and turns out to be the prime Bielsa Leeds and England Phillips or even 50% of that, I will be over the moon and wiping egg off my face. However on what my eyes see and how I view Phillips I have grave doubts that this will end well.

Even Leeds fans are saying it was Bielsa that worked wonders with him. He’s been toss before that and toss after it. People blinded because City spent some loose change on him.

TBF though Leeds fans are that dumb they still absolutely worshipped Bielsa even when his stubbornness was seeing them get pumped by 3/4/5 goals every week.
