Does anyone else remember this?...…. 'The key point in the season came on Tuesday 23rd March, when 22,336 were at Bramall Lane to see Edwards poach a last minute winner against nearest rivals Wigan. A vital goal from no more than a few yards, that maintained momentum in the midst of a 19 match unbeaten run to the end of the season'. If you do, what was the outstanding moment of the match other than Edwards scoring? It was quite funny?????

Yeh I was there on the Kop.
Wigan played in the (at the time) Wednesday kit.....blue and white stripes, blue shorts, white socks.

It was one of them 6 pointers where neither team could afford to lose.
So it turned into a stinker of a game....a real bore draw with no chances at either end....both teams seemed fairly happy with a draw.

I left about 2 minutes from the end.....just arrived at the bottom of the steps on the Kop and heard a loud roar.
Walking home found out we’d won with an Edwards goal....made me smile....just so typical of Edwards....he was crap all night...but STILL manages to get his goal.

I was at the game. My recollection is that John Matthews hit a great pass inside the Wigan left full back which Colin Morris ran onto and crossed for Keith Edwards to score from the edge of the 6 yard box in about the 85th minute or Maybe even later. Was LARRY Lloyd the Wigan centre half and captain? Can’t recall anything funny. It was a very tense match and looked like Wigan had come for and thought they had got the draw Until that point and after the goal Lloyd sank to his knees with head in hands.

in fairness all i remember about that match was edwards goal in front of the kop at the death, and that for most of the match larry lloyd had him in his pocket. dont recall any funny moment

Was it Dinky Dawson falling off the top of the fence surrounding the pitch in the John street corner ?

So only Paisley Blade can remember? I think the ball went out for a corner to us off Larry Lloyd, he got loads of abuse for it (as he did all game)….que..... Larry turning his back to the Kop and pulling his shorts down to his knee's and producing a full Mooney! Priceless and so funny …he'd get arrested nowdays!!!!!
