This has got me confused!
Most people on here (and other media) saying the football we play is "Turgid, crap, boring "Wilderball" et al
Most saying the summer recruitment window was crap.
Most saying CW has to change his "mindset" regarding "Wilderball"
Most saying he has an obsession with playing some players, Norwood, Brewster, Lunny' etc

Most saying "he has to stay as manger"

Surely the way to change the above is to change the manager, that seems to be be how things work in football.

So why do most people think we should keep Wilder ?
PS: His past record getting us to where we are doesn't cut it with me.

This is not meant as criticism of CW or any individual player, I'm genuinely interested.

‘His past record doesn’t cut it.... ‘ you may as well stop there mate. If what he achieved on a shoe string isn’t worthy of consideration with us. Or his 20+ years in management doesn’t hold any water but the last 6 months is all you’re concerned about I can’t really help you.

No one is saying we haven’t made mistakes but you either chose to take the context of no fans, huge injury crisis, lack of confidence and new signings settling in into account or you dont.... and assume he’s a busted flush despite a career that says he isn’t and our current form which is 6 wins from 9 games.

grass is always greener for some.

Hi Stegosaurus here

I dont get the criticism of Wilder. He may have spaffed millions away on crap, he makes baffling decisions like leaving our best strikers on the bench, insists on playing players who deserve dropping, only reluctantly starts Sharp, sticks with the same tactics even when they arent working, makes baffling decisions, guided us to the worst start in Premier League history ...
Piss off you

tell yer bro in law he's wrong.....just completely disregard the periods where we did played entertaining stuff then !!
Yes those 4 years we have had playing the most exciting football in our history is erased from the history books to be replaced with this season alone. It’s funny we never heard of any ex pros who played under wilder when we smacked league one then pretty much sailed through the championship then came in the top 10 of the premier league. But strange that isn’t it?

Why arent you trying to start a go fund me page trying to raise some cash for the undersoil heating that you cant afford to put on

Not sure where the comment about‘Grafters’ comes from. The big criticism of Berge, Ampadu, Brewster etc is they don’t graft enough.
people really should think before they write

The league one season we played some cracking football, but let’s face it, the opposition were piss poor.

The first Championship season we did until Coutts was injured, but we still had a ‘grind it out’ type performance in us if we needed one and used it against a lot of the established top sides.

The promotion season I’d say we went more towards grinding results out at the back end of the season but there were some fantastic performances thrown in that stick out in the memory and perhaps skewing peoples memory of how we played.

Last season we were compact and pressed well, at times played some lovely football (Spurs away goal, Man Utd home 3rd goal etc.), but we also setup to be hard to beat and concede possession. We were a very low scoring team for 9th place.

This season we’ve been a shadow of the side of last season and have largely just conceded possession and had very few moments of enjoyment going the other way. We’ve scored very few goals. I don’t think it’s the system though, it’s just injuries and loss of form. But at times it’s been pretty turgid.

Waffling on but what I’m trying to say is that we haven’t always been this free flowing, buccaneering team under Wilder that some people seem convinced we have been. So it’s not like it’s a massive surprise that with a loss of form we’ve just become a bit shit.

Not many teams are always buccaneering and free flowing even Man City and liverpool have to grind results out. That’s not to say on the whole we have been fantastic and played some football none of us have ever seen in our lifetimes over the past 4/5 years.
I find it strange why people are now trying to over analyse the past 4 years to try and back up there argument. This season has been poor but I don’t think the lack of fans injuries to key players and loss of form has helped either.

Ooh yes our style of play under wilder is famously ‘old fashioned’

Managers like Bielsa and Guardiola are regularly heard to say things like ‘overlapping centre backs, how old fashioned’

Never mind the fact that wilder and knill basically invented a new style of football (go on, prove to me that somebody else did it first) and that world renowned coaches like Bielsa Guardiola and Pochetino specifically praised our style of football saying they’d never seen it before.

No, one ex-pro who played under Warnock (great yardstick for excellent football 👀) and then under wilder probably at Halifax, says it’s old fashioned. I guess he must be right.

Funny enough, I remember Len Badger going down the wings, and Bernard Shaw often turning up in midfield,
Joe Shaw always stayed back as the last defender I actually think John Harris invented "over-lapping wingbacks"!

To paraphrase the great inigo mantoya, you keep saying most people, I do not think it means what you think it means

Anyway, it was originally a question posted on what was a slow day for me - and a bit of sensible debate, not meant as criticism of our current set-up - that bit got lost on some posters!

So good! somehow i managed to post this twice GRrrr

But how far would you go with that ? even if we ended up back in League one ?
Look. I'm pretty much an open book. I don't have supreme, euphoric highs if we win. And, I certainly don't have black dog lows if we lose. There's another game next week. I just enjoy going to Utd games & I prefer to see us win. This forensic, if we'd done this, this would have happened, approach leaves me cold. I ain't got the energy for dissecting every signing & team selection. If Wilder puts the cones out in a different pattern, I won't take much notice. You ask a fair question. But, it's hypothetical, it's forensic. I'll go with you in spirit. We're an identity football club. Some of our heroes started as Blades, and are Blades. Some of our heroes wouldn't have been able to pick Sheffield out on a map, but became Blades. Identity. Being a recognisable Club. To belong to. Yes. I'd choose that in the National League if it came to it. Not Sharp. Not Wilder. Not the Saudis. They're just the window we're looking through now. But we're a Club I hope I'll continue to love. Bayern just won the World Club Champo. Are "you forensics" not going to be happy until we've won that? Come on in, the waters lovely.

Is it because most people on here aren’t thick?

I’m not over analysing anything, it’s just inaccurate to say that we’ve always played amazing football under Wilder. As you say though, give me this over the last 20 years though any day.

Most people aren’t saying the things you say. That’s why most people want to keep Wilder.

Let’s remember that the bed wetters paradise of social media doesn’t really receiver the real world that much.

not understanding your point really, is it a dig?. Was answering the point made by Big. Dane.w mentioning ex player from back then who disagrees with Wilder tactics, training etc. My response to that was the periods of good play (which there were).... not 4 years though. your comment "never heard of any ex pro's who played etc"....not sure what your meaning there

Espania my old son, I'll tell you why I think we should keep him,
1. He's not some mercenary import who has parachuted in from a failed Managers scrap heap somewhere. He's a true Blade from way back.
2. His record in getting us into the premiership over the past 5 seasons stands comparison with any other Manager we 've had at the Lane.
3. His tactics as applied to the Team kept us up last year and were applauded by almost every pundit I heard on TV/ Radio.
4. Maybe his Transfer acquisitions havent been the best but that not 100% down to him. These players have to want it and perform. He cant get on the field and do it for them. Maybe they will confound the doubters over the next year or so.
5. Having looked at the number of Managers we have had at the lane over the past 20 years I would dread us going down that road again. Allardyce, Pulis, Lampard - you can keep them.
6. He's a genuine bloke not a fancy dan prancing about the touchline in a 3 piece suit and a Crombi overcoat trying to get the camera mans attention.

Anyway this argument has gone sterile now . He's staying. Get a Life......Suck it Up.....Wake up and smell the Coffee. Accept any other cliches you've got coming .Have run out of patience now so will leave it there.
keep the Faith.
Point 4
Says it all really.
Massive bollock drop.

Forget this season. He’s the best manager we’ve had. Just a shame his transfer approach hasn’t worked.

Wilderball.

The poor relation of the “balls” offered up by our esteemed manager.

First there was TuftyBall. The Genesis. Gaffer saw that Tuftyball was good and used it to good effect in a rapid rise from the depths of Div 3 all the way up to knock knock knocking on Europes door 😀.

Then.

Wilderball. Out of nowhere. For no apparent reason and, ultimately, with dire consequences.

Gaffer. WTF were you thinking ?

Seriously, what ??

Alas, the reversion to TuftyBall comes too late to save us this year.

But tune in to the sequel, coming to a Stadium near you quite soon 😀.
